Maria and Terese are outstanding hosts for their beautiful villa in central Portugal. The home is privately situated just outside a very small village, from which it is convenient to travel throughout the central and northern parts of Portugal. But their villa and gardens are so wonderful that you will not want to leave! From the charming, cozy, well equipped kitchen for breakfast, to wine at sunset in the garden, your day will melt away around the pool in this sunny spot close by Coimbra. Although enticing, the photos online do not do the property justice. If you are seeking a quiet and relaxing base from which to do day car trips, I highly recommend Quinta das Murteiras! Obrigado, Maria and Terese!
What an incredible place! Everything, absolutely everything was perfect - the house was very well equipped and impeccably clean. But most of all, it was absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Private and quiet, with gardens that will knock your socks off. After renting houses all over the world, I would have to list this property in the top 5. A real stunner. The owners of the property, Maria and Theresa, were so very kind and helpful, topping our stay off with the pure pleasure of meeting wonderful people.
Exceptional villa – You must stay here!!
This villa in the Coimbra country was absolutely stunning. A beautiful drive up the cobblestone driveway lead us to the expansive villa, surrounded by 2 acres of spectacular gardens. We stayed in the first week of February & can only imagine the beauty of the blossoms in spring/summer—but for us, the 8-12°C sunny weather was a relief from Canada's freezing winter. And, waking up to the sounds of the chirping birds, dogs and roosters was so peaceful.
Our host, Maria and her sister Theresa, were extremely welcoming and accommodating. They made sure to check in on us and help us with anything we needed. The goodies in the kitchen were such a special touch (thank you!). The sunny breakfast room was breathtaking—the wrought iron decor of the windows was truly beautiful—words cannot really describe how special. A full kitchen with everything one could need was at our disposal. Bedrooms (we used just two) were spacious and comfortable, especially the beds—firm, yet cozy and with wonderful linens. The piano room was a delight, as were all the areas to sit and relax, when we had time!
There was so much detail throughout the house—charming decorations, thoughtful additions such as games and books, fly swatters, clothes hooks, you name it.
We did not use the pool, as it was too cool, but it was well-kept and inviting nonetheless! We could not believe how stunning the gardens were—so much thought, planning and love went into this place. Orange, lemon and kiwi trees, breathtaking views, and little seating areas everywhere! Honestly, we were truly impressed.
We would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you so much, Maria and Theresa!
Thank you very much for your visit and for your appreciation.
I'm very pleased to know that you enjoyed the stay in my property. It was a pleasure for me to receive you and I hope you will come again.
Best concerts for both!
A Luxury Property
The property is a gardener's paradise with lovely views near and far. Many places to nest in and relax inside and out. We even got to park in a garage. A first for our six weeks in Portugal. The pool is wonderful and was enjoyed after returning from a hike on a hot day. We found the decor lovely and enjoyed all the space to move about. It's very clean. We got caught up with laundry, and having meals at the house was a welcome change. Maria and Theresa are determined to have their guests love their house as much as they do. Between the house and garden and the hosts, loving this place is easy. We'd have no hesitation to return.
Absolutely outstanding villa and garden in a beautiful corner of rural Portugal
The owners have thought of everything - this is a perfect villa for a stay. Extremely comfortable, even better than described, the villa is immaculately presented, with every convenience one might wish for. The owner's courtesy and kindness makes the visitor instantly at home. What makes a beautiful villa into a paradise is the garden - a genuine work of art. In summer it was full of roses, and utterly enchanting. A perfect spot - you will not want to leave. On practical details, the nearest supermarket is about 6km away in Condeixha. A car is essential and be aware of electronic road tolls in this area. Thoroughly recommended.
Incredible country getaway close to city
My wife and I stayed in this property with another couple for total of 4 glorious nights. This property completely lives up to (even surpasses) the pictures provided. The house is in extremely excellent condition and the extensive gardens are well maintained (and very fruitful)! Maria, the owner, and her sister Theresa are very kind and thoughtful and want to insure you really enjoy your stay. They thought to provide us with a few items in the refrigerator and a bottle of local wine when we arrived to get us started - how nice was that!!! We found much bounty in Maria's gardens to include tomatoes, lemons, figs and grapes all for our enjoyment. The location is very peaceful but a car is a must. Coimbra is 10 minutes away by car but we also enjoyed just relaxing around the pool and hiking the numerous trails you can easily find not far from your doorstep. We also enjoyed a days kayaking trip on the nearby Mondega River that was a highlight of our entire Portugal trip. There are many other things to do in area as well. I cannot say enough positive about this property and about its owner. We hope to get back soon! Thank you Maria and Theresa for making our stay so enjoyable.
