Perfectly in keeping with the charming hill top town of Opi.

  • 5 of 5

This lovely, authentic, ancient house provided an absolutely fantastic base to visit the stunningly beautiful National Park of Abruzzo. This area seems almost unvisited by tourists -

as if the Italians have kept its secret for themselves! The House was lovely. Clean and bright and with all the facilities you need. Although not huge, the house was more than adequate for our party of 5 adults and had a bed to spare. The village of Opi is fantastic - set on the top of a steep hill with pretty, narrow streets and alleyways. There are a bakery and charcuterie in the village for early morning yummy breakfasts and several inexpensive supermarkets in the nearby town. There is also a restaurant and bar in the village. The area is superbly set up for hill and mountain walking - with clearly marked trails through beautiful scenery and stunning views from the mountain tops. The nearby Lake Barrera makes for a restful day. Donnatella, our host, was lovely and really helpful about where to go, what to do and where to find the best food.

Amazed to say we saw one of the elusive brown bears and a flight of eagles but didn't come across any wolves.

Incredible place to stay for ones who love nature.

Wonderfull flat in the heart of Abruzzo National park. It's a real pearl in the mountains: flat is very cosy, with increadible views to the mountains, place is in very nice location to travel around by car to the closest villages and tracks to explore the park by foot. The host is very warm and helpfull. Flat provides all the amenities to make one feel like at home. We would like to come here once again. Thank you, Donatella, our stay at your grand -grand parents home was incredible.

Charming, Peaceful, Inspiring

  • 5 of 5

If you want to experience something of life in a typical hill-top Italian village this is the place to go! A wonderful and delightful property, right in the heart of beautiful and peaceful Opi, surrounded by the magnificent mountains of the Abruzzo National Park with good hiking to suit different abilities.

Main living area and bedroom on the 2nd floor, with views over the surrounding valleys and hills. Well equipped, decorated and clean. There were only two of us, but with there are additional beds in the rooms in the roof space. There is an additional shower room on the ground floor, which also contains the washing machine. The owner met us on arrival, speaks very good English and was very helpful.

Opi is a classical Italian village - many people visit during the day to walk through its charming streets and take in the views. At night it is very peaceful with little local activity. There are two small general stores, a bakery and bar which provide all you will need for a great stay without travelling to the larger towns nearby.

Parking is on the steep street where the house is located - plenty of spaces available. You will need a car to get up to the village as the hill is very steep, and the road very twisty. There are a couple of good restuarants at the bottom of the hill, specialing is grilled meats which seem to be typical of the region - very welcoming places and well worth a try.

There are many walking routes which are well signposted - keep following the red and white markers - but recommend you use a map - there is one available in the property but you can purchase one from the tourist office in the village. The paths go up to 2000m so we recommend light walking boots and a hiking pole. The high level flower meadows are delightful. And if you need a rest day, try hiring a sun lounger next to Lake Barrea for an afternoon.

We would love to return again - it was a wonderful place to refresh your soul and a good base to walk in the mountains.

Spettacolare veduta su tutta la valle

  • 4 of 5

Donatella persona disponibile e gentile.

Opi paese tranquillo.

Capodanno con tanta neve

  • 4 of 5
