About Ellen Maynes
In 2005 we sold our home and 26 horses in order to serve a mission for our church. We were called to Nouvoo Illinois, aka 'The Gathering Place' aka 'The City of Joseph' Upon our return in 2007, WE built this cabin on 7 acres and chose to call it 'The Gathering Place'! Shortly after completing it, we were called to serve again. This time it was for 6 months at Martin's Cove in the highlands of Wyoming. We decided to rent our cabin out while we were away in 2009. We were asked to return to Wyoming in 2010, this time to serve at 'The 6th Crossing of the Sweetwater' and to escort trek groups over 'Rocky Ridge' on the National Historic Trail on horseback. These 3 missions have been a highlight of our lives together. In 2014 WE built another cabin on the 7 acres. We call it 'The Heber C.' on Kimball Lane. We served in the Kimball Home in Nauvoo and learned that he baptized my GG Grandparents in England (Jonathan & Ellen Clegg). They came to America in 1856 and were part of the Martin Handcart Company. We have chosen to use our memorabilia from our missions to decorate our cabins. We hope you will feel of the sweet spirit here and add to it as your visit. We love and admire our Blessed, Honored, Pioneers.

Why Ellen Maynes chose Sweetwater
We purchased this property from Jessie Kimball long before we knew of our connections to Heber C Kimball. It was once a part of the Heber C Kimball Estate.

Home for Family reunion
This was a great property for our family reunion. The home was clean and well maintained. We were able to have our meals together and there was plenty of outdoor area for games, pictures etc. We also enjoyed the play area with the slides and swings.
What an AWESOME property! We had a large family reunion, 3 generations, ages 1 month to 76, with over 100 people and rented both houses from Ellen. They are beautiful homes and have everything you need. We used this home as our main home for cooking, eating and all other activities. The yards were great for the kids (and adults) to run and play. We didn't have to worry about the little kids leaving the property as there was a playground and lots of yard to play in. Everyone enjoyed the reunion because the homes were so accommodating for their families. Plenty of beds, bathrooms and parking! Ellen was the best! Thank you for sharing your homes with us, they are truly amazing and we hope we can come back again.
Fantastic for a large family
We had a large family reunion in bear lake and chose the gathering place as our place to stay. We loved it! The large open field was great for all the kids. It was great being able to set up tables and chairs in the garage and eat in there. The home was large enough to comfortably accommodate our large group and the 2 fully stocked kitchens were amazing.
Bear Lake Reunion
We had a great family reunion at this house. The neighborhood and location was great because there was enough room that our noise did not bother others.
Having the extra mattresses was a great idea for the kids to sleep wherever they wanted to.
Lots of room and comfort
We loved our stay at the Gathering Place. There was plenty of room and beds for our crew of 30. Everyone wants to come back.
Great home, nice location, overall great experience!!! Owner was nice n easy to work w. Lots of parking, bedrooms, 2 kitchens, tons of space. Our family reunion was perfect!
The Family friendly Lake is the biggest attraction. ATV trails can be accessed from the front door with miles and miles of mountain trails. Pickle Playhouse is just a short walk away, reservations suggested. Boat and ATV rentals are available locally. City park and boardwalk to the beach are at about 200 S Bearlake Blvd. (Hwy 30). The State Marina is about 3 miles to the North on Hwy 89. With 8/10ths of an acre, there is plenty of room for lawn activities. The lane in front of the cabin is a private lane (2263 S) shared by 3 properties
