A true heart for helping this apartment 3 rooms entirely renovated with taste. This apartment fully equipped atypical hosts 2 to 6 people. Located in the heart of the old town in one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Villefranche sur mer and its citadel of the sixteenth century provide a unique and unexpected between Cannes and Monaco. At 200 meters from the beach, close to shops and 5 minutes walk from the train station you can enjoy your holiday without having to drive. This vacation rental is ideal for exploring all the assets of the French Riviera
Having visited Villefranche on day trips from Nice before we had high hopes for a stay in the town itself and this apartment looked perfect for the two of us and our 2 year old daughter. On arrival, the property was much further from the sea / port than it appears and is a steep climb to pretty much the level of the bus stop and main road through the town. We were greeted by the owner who showed us into the property. First impressions were a dark, underground set up with virtually no natural light. Although furnished and equipped to a high specification (shower, cooker, beds all good quality), it has clearly been renovated in a DIY manner meaning that some aspects of the facilities do not work perfectly. There is no kettle to boil water and no broom to sweep up sand brought in from visits to the beach. There is no-where to dry wet towels and swimwear apart from a washing line at the end of the path, a short walk from the apartment. Trying to dry towels in the property left the whole place smelling damp. We made a surprising discovery on our first night when we found that we were unable to lock the door from the inside. We called the owner who arrived an hour later with no apology and a makeshift fix which required us to remove the lock with a screwdriver each time we opened and closed the door. Of course, we didn't accept this so it was temporarily fixed with the use of a rock! Not an ideal start, made worse by the absence again of an apology or compensation. On a positive note, there are some lovely little food shops nearby and plenty of restaurants within walking distance - just note the sporadic opening hours and days! The beds are comfy and our daughter slept well in a bunk bed. We cooked a few times and the kitchen equipment works well. The shower is great. The owner's mother was a delight to meet on the last day and generously gave us a lift to the airport (if public transport is required there is a regular train between Villefranche and Nice St Augustin which is a ten minute walk from the airport).
If we returned to Villefranche we would try and find somewhere slightly further down the hill closer to the sea (on the understanding that a sea view comes at a premium). We would also want somewhere with natural light - any sort of window or balcony. We would not return to this property as we did not feel it was value for money given the points detailed above.
I would definitely recommend this place. We had great communication with the host. he was professional and accommodating. We needed a crib and the crib was clean with a nice comforter and clean sheets. The apartment was fantastic. Clean and functional. Location was excellent. Close to coffee, restaurants, beach, train, grocery store and bank.
Host was 3/5: picked us up after some difficulty finding his place and poor communication via cell when we were trying to find the place. After this ordeal, though, the host was professional explaining the local shops/restaurants.
Place was 4/5: location was well situated, with good access to shops and beach. Heating/air conditioning was good, and amenities in the house were very good. House was a little small for our family but for a short stay it worked fine.
Overall rating is 4/5 due to the nice place and the location.

We were three friends (widows) who traveled to Provence and stayed at this apartment. It was a perfect location, close to everything, 2 nice bakeries, cafe, small grocery store, a woman selling fresh fruit and vegetables several times a week, even fresh fish. . Restaurants galore. and very close to bus stop and train station.
the apartment was very clean (as I am a germ-a-phobe. ) and had everything you needed .
We thought the mattresses were comfortable and quiet neighborhood. One exception was Saturday night, some young teenagers were partying outside our street, but they quieted down around 10pm. No problem.
The only problem we had was how to work the very modern shower and stove top. Be sure to get more instructions from owner. We didn't do any cooking so it wasn't important. Just heated water.
The owner satisfied our every request, and his mother was just as sweet and accomodating, when she met us at the apartment.
We fell in love with her, felt like we knew her all our lives. she even offered to take us to airport, as one of our suitcases was lost. She made us feel at home.
The owner 's mother also gave us a ride to pick up our rental car at the end of our stay, which is something they were not obligated to do.
My suggestion as far as getting there, if you don't want to spend the money on a taxi, is to take the #99 bus or #98 ($6 euros)to the train station in Nice and then take train into Villefranche, a short walk to the apartment, unless someone is ill, or older. We were in our mid 60's. We had a hard time with the suggested route, which was to take #99, then Bus #80 which stops one block away from apartment. However we had a hard time finding the #80 bus, got lost and ended up taking a taxi after all, when someone suggested we take the #30 and got lost.
I will defintely recommend this place to all my friends.
