Our stylish 2,200 sq.ft. home has been decorated in beach cottage style, an eclectic mix of shabby chic and vintage pieces. It sits high on a large lot in a private road of only 6 homes close to Phillippi Creek with all its wonderful birds and wildlife. Drive or cycle to Siesta Key, America's No 1 Beach for several years now, (10 minutes by car) or visit Southgate Mall, many designer names as well as all America's favourite brands. The many varied restaurants of Tamiami Trail are equally close by, many offering take out service. Or simply relax in your own tropical paradise, sparkling heated saltwater pool (less chemicals, kinder to eyes and skin), fully screened in with al fresco eating, large gas grill for the excellent local seafood, and a spacious screened lanai! (No bugs or other unwelcome visitors!)The pool is not overlooked and the whole yard is surrounded by lush tropical landscaping.
Our fabulous beach: http://www.cnn.com/2011/TRAVEL/05/27/best.beaches
In 2012 Siesta Beach was named America's Best Beach and confirmed what we have known for years, that the fine white quartz crystal sand has healing powers and is home to many nesting birds and sea turtles. The aquamarine ocean is warm by May/June and remains so until November. A regular morning walk on this stunning beach or a sunset shared with a friend or lover is a magical experience, never to be forgotten. The public beach has full facilities and is busy and popular, we prefer the north end of the key where the beach is tranquil and you can spend hours with a book and hardly see a soul.
Bedrooms: All our bedrooms have fine linens and comfortable beds, the bathrooms are all white with tile floors and all new fittings in 2005. We have cupboards full of towels and sheets, duvets for the winter, sufficient extra bedding for 6 to sleep in comfort.
We have a cot and high chair.
Kitchen and dining: When we stay in the house we entertain our many local friends and family and can easily feed 8 on a regular basis, we have lots of pots and pans and crockery/cutlery! Unlike an average rental this is our family retreat and with 6 children it has to be on a large scale! You can park 5 or 6 cars on the drive and most guests agree there is little need or desire to go anywhere once you settle around the pool. Our only problem is we get too relaxed here and never make all the trips we intended!
Just got back from a 2 week stay here and found the location ideal for what we wanted. A couple of years ago we stayed in Bradenton but found we had a 20 minute drive each evening to restaurants. Here they are only about 5 minutes away, depending on what you want. There is also a Publix and a Jo-Anns (if like me, you're into crafty stuff). If you fancy a change from burgers, steaks or Mexican, we recommend Sweet Tomatoes - pay a fixed amount then eat as much as you want. They have soups, salad, macc 'n' cheese, lots of salad plus muffins, chocolate pudding and ice cream. We had concerns about the location being close to a school and a main road but we didn't hear anything. The pool at the back of the property is very secluded and surrounded by vegetation. Loved the little fairy lights under the lanai. Spent many an early morning here reading my book as the dawn broke. There were plenty of beach towels as well as chairs, cool bags etc. You will need parasols to escape the midday sun, luckily a couple had been left by previous guests. Although there is a tumble dryer, there is also an airer which I used a lot, especially for t-shirts which I worry about shrinking in the dryers. Another one would have been useful as I like to keep on top of washing! There are lots of books and a few games there too. I read 2 from the bookshelf as had finished the one I brought in the first week.
The reasons I am only giving 4 start
1. We are a very tall family (I am the shortest at 5' 11"). The ceiling slopes on the landing and there is an overhang as you come down the stairs so we had a few bumped heads initially
2. The air conditioning in the bedrooms didn't seem as cool as in the main room. I seemed to be in and out of the covers throughout the night trying to get comfortable. One of my sons was really struggling with the heat in his room, even with the ceiling fan on. We found a portable fan in the garage and he had that upstairs for the remained of the stay which helped a lot.
Also be aware, there are no street lights so don't forget to leave an outside light on if you will be returning in the dark.
On the whole we had an amazing holiday and found plenty to do, even when it was raining - try a Room Escape, 60 minuts pass in no time.
Just realised I had not left a review after our July stay. Our party consisted of my wife, myself, 2 youngest sons (21 & 18) and our grandsons aged 5 &2. The property is as described, fantastic location, and the owner could not have been more helpful in returning some property we accidentally left behind! I was a little concerned regarding the 'salt' water swimming pool especially for our grandsons, but this was no problem at all.We have stayed in many properties over the years, both in central Fla, and along the Gulf coast. This is simply the best accommodation we have stayed in, and sincerely hope to return in the near future. Cannot recommend highly enough. Thanks again, Susan & Annalise & we look forward to returning soon.
This really is a very well- equipped home from home. The minute we stepped foot in the house we felt comfortable, which after a long flight was very much welcomed.
The pool is heavenly after a long day at the beach; there are plenty of food places to cater for every taste and most do take away. But sometimes after a hard day being a tourist it’s nice to pick up a couple of juicy steaks and some beers from the local Publix and take them back to enjoy a casual dinner by the pool, no dressing for dinner just relaxing. It’s up to you.
A great help is having the owner’s daughter and family living next door, however they are not intrusive and you are able to enjoy your holiday without being disturbed.
It’s also in a pretty quiet residential cul-de-sac away from the tourist areas but a close enough drive to them. There are many places to visit as well as the marvellous Siesta Beach which has had a recent makeover of the facilities. The Ringling is worth a trip if you fancy a day away from the beach, and the gardens and museum are free to get in on a Monday. There are plenty of shopping places as well. All in all, a very happy holiday was had.
This is our second visit in a couple of years, we love the area and the house and next time we come over we hope to stay here again.
My husband, daughter, granddaughter and I recently spent a week at this beautiful house, which felt like a home from the moment we walked in. It was situated in a quiet cul-de-sac and had all you could possibly need to enjoy your holiday, including everything for the beach. The house was well furnished and extremely comfortable, clean, and the three bathrooms were an added bonus. The pool was wonderful and we spent most evenings relaxing outside in the comfortable seating, complete with fairy lights!
The booking of the house could not have been simpler and our dealings with the owner were a pleasure. Having her daughter, Annalise, living next door was very comforting although we didn't need to disturb her.
Sarasota itself is absolutely beautiful and we hope to go back again and stay at this lovely home for longer. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this house to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings.
We spent nine great weeks at this home, and already have reservations for eleven weeks next year. Having Annalise next door was a HUGE plus, and she was quick to address any questions we had. The salt water pool was perfect for us, and the WiFi worked without a hitch. The property is located on a very quiet, dead end street in a nice neighborhood.
The home is only a short drive away from the beach, churches, grocery stores, and good restaurants. Dutch Valley was our favorite restaurant, and you have to try their broasted chicken. The Italian Grill is a slightly longer drive, but it's worth the trip. Sarasota County was in the process of improving Turtle Beach, and while we were there they opened wonderful new facilities at Siesta Beach.
We stayed 10 lovely days in this great vacation home. It is perfect for a family holiday, especially because its really close to EVERYTHING, beach, shopping, restaurants!
It might not be the newest home, but nonetheless very charming, well equipped and also very clean. The pool is heated, so our two girls enjoyed it a lot!
The owner is a really lovely person who tries to accommodate all your wishes, if possible.
We hope to be back soon!
Only 10 minutes from the fine white sands of the Gulf of Mexico and our award winning beach, http://www.cnn.com/2011/TRAVEL/05/27/best.beaches. Moments from the many fabulous restaurants of the Tamiami Trail. A 20 minute drive will take you to the boutique shopping at St. Armands Key with its fine dining and Lido beach, drive across to Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island for a true Florida Keys experience. The famous Ringling Museum and Mansion, the art galleries of Palm Avenue, the Van Wezel concert hall, orchestra and ballet, the stylish new Selby public library and the many beautiful examples of Spanish architecture dating back to the 1920's all remind us that Sarasota truly is the cultural capital of Florida. However bargain hunters and fashionistas are not forgotten with excellent shopping malls within 10 minutes drive, the fabulous new UTC Mall 20 minutes away and a huge designer discount mall at Ellenton, 30 minutes away. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy Jungle Gardens, or a trip to the Myakka River to see the alligators
