Comfortable, close to old town
Had pretty much everything we needed. Enjoyed little touches like fresh ground coffee, games and Carmen,s recommendations. Add a little art on the walls and a table in the family room and 4 stars goes to 5!
Nice apartment in a great location
Carmen's apartment was spacious and full of natural light. The location was perfect as well: It's about a ten-minute walk to the Sint-Baafsplein, which made it easy for me to check out the Belfry at the end of my first evening in Ghent and Saint Bavo's early my last morning. Beyond that, it's less than a half-hour walk to either the Gent-Dampoort or Gent-Sint-Pieters train stations, and so it was simple to get to coming from the east (I was in Antwerp before coming to Ghent) or the west (I took two daytrips to Bruges while staying in Ghent).
The Belgian beer and chocolate in the fridge were a warm touch. Carmen also left a list of her recommended area restaurants; unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to check them out--poor planning on my part--but her comments on them did make them sound enticing.
Ideal accommodation and location
A spacious apartment, well appointed, bright, quiet, comfortable. We found it easily, the location suited us very well, with just a walk up the street where we could take a tram into the city - or just walk. Grocery store within easy walk too. The recommended 'best frittes' shop proved very good, as did the lunch cafe recommended - Le Pain Quotidien.
Our host graciously allowed us to check out much later than normal, which was very helpful.
Fabulous place to stay!
We had a long weekend in Ghent and this apartment exceeded our wildest expectations! The pictures cannot convey how perfect it is. It's in a very quiet location, yet is only a 5 minute walk to St. Michael's Bridge and all the historical sites of Ghent that lie beyond the bridge. The very high ceilings and huge windows make it very sunny and make it feel spacious. Carmen made it very welcoming by having lots of little local specialties waiting for us in the refrigerator which made it feel like we were visiting friends. We can't wait to come back!
Thank you Carol!
A Perfect Stay in Ghent
It was a very nice 3 days stay in Carmen's apartment. All daily needs were provided and the location is great. Thanks for everything. Highly recommended!
Great apartment to see the sights of Gent
Currently staying at Carmen's apartment. The description of the apartment and photos are accurate. The apartment is close to shops, supermarket and the beautiful architectural sights of Gent.
Carmen was very professional and timely in her response to every question and was here to greet us on our arrival. There were lots of 'helpful extras' in the kitchen, laundry and bathroom to make our stay that much easier. Also a box of multilingual instruction booklets for the household appliances. Thank you Carmen
Not far from the apartment in Papegaaistraat 89 is the best frites shop in Gent.
When in Gent do not miss a visit to the Belfort and The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb or the flower market on Sunday morning.
We used Gent as our base camp and visited Brussels, Ieper and Bruges during the week. So glad we left 4 full days for Gent as it is the most beautiful medieval town. Less touristy with a relaxed atmosphere made Gent the best place to stay.
I would recommend Carmen's comfortable apartment as it was lovely to come home to every day.
