|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Spacious villa built 10 years ago. Sleeps 8 people with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Large lounge/dining area with ample seating, LCD TV and DVD. Air Conditioning and ceiling fans in lounge and all bedrooms. Set in 1/2 acre garden with masses of tropical flowers and fruit trees. Lovely new pool finished to very high standard with poolside shower. Garden visited by numerous species of exotic bird life (kingfishers, sun birds, paradise flycatchers etc.).
Located just 6-7 minutes walk from fabulous surfing beach of Hikkaduwa (used for international surfing competitions). Just a 10 minute walk along the beach takes you to a place where it is possible to feed giant 120 year old sea turtles by hand as they practically come in to the shore. Numerous restaurants along beach front to choose from. Maintenance manager close by to sort out any concerns and arrange excursions to any destination. Historic and shopping centre of Galle less than 1/2 hour away.
Serendib villa is a splendid modern villa built on a plot of land we fell in love with when we visited Sri Lanka 11 years ago because the setting was so tranquil and peaceful. Despite this it is only 5-6 minutes walk from the famous surfing beach of Hikkaduwa with a multitude of restaurants to choose from. Our maintenance manager, Sarath, at the nearby Golden Sand Beach Hotel, will take care of any concerns you may have and arrange excursions to anywhere on the island. He can also arrange your collection from the airport and transport to the villa if required.
The garden is a haven for bird life and you can see numerous exotic tropical species just sitting on the Veranda or stroll through the garden filled with Hibiscus, Frangipani and Bougainvillea flowers with papayas, bananas and mangoes ripening on the trees. The pool is of the same luxury standard as those at the 5 star Saman Villas Hotel and it is surrounded by coconut palms.
Serendib is a great place to do as much or as little as you want. Just chill out by the pool and watch the bird life, go for great surfing at the beach, or use it as a base to explore all the delights that Sri Lanka has to offer. A welcoming bowl of tropical fruit will be waiting for you on your arrival. Please note that although the pool is delightful for swimming at any time of year the sea currents on the coast in the European summer (July - August) can be strong and make swimming inadvisable.
We have just returned from a great relaxing family holiday, staying at Serendip. The place was very clean, well maintained and has all amenities we needed and was a large and comfortable space. We didn't want to come back...
The location is a 5 minute walk from Hikkaduwa beach which has a number of good restaurants and bars. Rickshaws and taxi's are available when you want to travel further and are really reasonable.
The bedrooms are all off off of the main living area which has a large dining table, internet access and TV, DVD and CD player. Air con throughout the villa is good and not overpowering. The kitchen is a good size, has a washing machine and all you would expect in a kitchen is here. Helpfully, towels are supplied and are plentiful making packing easier.
The pool is a lovely respite from the heat, and coconut trees provide some shade in this area, dappled sunlight comes through but fierce sun is avoided. A bird of Paradise visits at about 4pm every day!
John had provided us with all the information we would need and was friendly and helpful throughout the booking process. He was patient with us when we tried to organise things from both India and the UK. We were greeted at the airport warmly by manager Sarath, who was very capable, relaxed and helpful throughout our stay. He left us his BBQ when we bought fish from the harbour, delivered food from the hotel for us in a rickshaw (which is really helpful when you have a 1 year old baby)! and sent us in the right direction for everything we needed. For anyone who chooses to stay in the villa, I would say you could trust that you are getting the best service and best deal from Sarath. And he does great rice curry! Even the night watchman was helpful..
I would reccomend this holiday for anyone who wants peace with access to bars and restauarants and a relaxed beach holiday. We travelled with a 1 year old who had a great time and made good use of the shady verandah and pool. There is very little I could add about the villa in terms of improvement...the efforts made to help us were great. The inclusion of a travel cot and highchair would have topped it all off well, but this is a totally personal requirement!
Well done to John, Yin and Sarath for providing a great spot with the personal attention you would expect from a resort style set up without being intrusive. Thanks for letting us stay.
We stayed in villa for more than a week - 4 adults and 4 children (age 1-4). Overall, the villa is acceptable, but not perfect. John is really helpful with everything, but Sarath could do more for us. There were some problems at the beginning (no travel baby cots as agreed, no wifi, broken air con, etc), but John did really his best to help us. The surroundings and the pool is nice, but maintained poorly. We enjoyed animals in the garden: squirrels, parrots, monkeys, lot of birds, etc. It is also a nice village in the opposite direction to the beach. I would recomend the place to not so demanding travelers.
We have just returned home after spending 10 wonderful days relaxing in a fantastic villa in a great location! The villa was clean and comfortable allowing our party of 5 (2 adults 3 kids 14,11 and 2) plenty of space. The pool was cleaned daily by the night watchman and used every day by all of us...the beach only 5-10 mins walk down the road was fine, although the sea a little rough for the youngest one to get into. We found the location to be tranquil and the town very relaxed (even with the buses) after a couple of days the local shop keepers came to recognise us as we wandered down to the supermarket for our daily supplies (about 15min walk). The food was a little hit and miss in the restaurants, we were a little out of season, but JLH and Time and Tide were both good, the pizzas at Time and Tide a hit with the family. Sarath was available to organise anything you need in terms of trips around the island, buses and TukTuk's if you don't fancy the walk into town, he had also arranged for wireless internet in the villa which was a welcome bonus. All in all we really enjoyed our short stay at the villa and will be returning sometime soon. Thank you John for a memorable holiday...
We are a family of 7 and found Serendib Villa very comfortable and spacious. The gardens and pool are wonderful, peaceful and relaxing. Sarath, the manager, is always on hand to help with any queries and to organise any tours. We went on the River Safari tour and we would definately recommend it. My husband and sons also went on a fishing trip and caught 32 fish! Our favourite restaurant was JLH, again recommended by Sarath, the staff were lovely and the food delicious. Our 5 children, aged between 10 and 16, had a great holiday and would love to go back next year as would my husband and I. We stayed for a week this year but would like to go for a longer holiday next year.
My family spent a wonderful Christmas in this villa - our ages ranged from 28 to 83 and it suited everyone! From the moment Sarath met us at the airport we knew we were going to love Sri Lanka and its people and especially Hikkadua and Villa Serendib.
The villa is spacious and well equipped and the garden and swimming pool were perfect. The plus side was being able to stroll down to Saraths guesthouse and sit next to the beach when we were fed up with the pool! Our family have many different interests so with one son surfing, another diving, my daughter sunbathing and even doing a cookery course in Unawatuna everyone was happy.
We would definately return here again and perhaps next time do a few tours of the island, we were all so happy and lazy in Villa Serendib we didn't get round to touring this time!
Many thanks to John for having such a lovely villa and to Sarath for all his help and wonderful cooking!
I travelled to Hikkaduwa in a group of 8 adult males to take in a Test match at Galle. The villa, which is a short walk from Hikkaduwa beach, provided a perfect base for our week of hedonism. The proximity of the many beach bars and roti shops meant that feeding and watering ourselves was never an issue. In the evening, the villa made a perfect place to return to after a hard day of sitting around watching cricket. The pool accommodated 8 adult males (and their beers) comfortably, and the spectacle of thousands of fruit bats flying overhead at dusk was taken in on several evenings.
Sarath and his staff were most accommodating and were only too willing to help with any requests that we had.
I would thoroughly recommend this villa to a family or group of friends and would certainly visit again myself.
The property is on the southern edge of Hikkaduwa about 10 km north of Galle. It is set about 600 meters back from the internationally renowned surfing beach of Hikkaduwa, in a quiet and peaceful area surrounded by coconut palms. Colombo and the airport are 2-3 hours away. The Dutch Fort at Galle and the excellent diving at Unawatuna are about half an hour away. Overnight and longer excursions can easily be arranged to Yala National park, Pinawala elephant orphanage and the ancient historical sites of Sigiriya and Anuradhapura.
