We very much enjoyed our two week stay at les Martinies. The house is in the middle of nowhere yet still in touch with civilisation. It is in a beautiful spot and we really enjoyed the outside space for sitting outside for meals and by the pool. Unfortunately the weather was not great (August) and we only had about 3 good "pool days" out of our fortnight which was very disappointing.
The pool was lovely and of an excellent size but was unfortunately rather cold. The owner told me it was about 28/29 degrees (which made me think it was heated) but this was not the case. He came regularly to clean and maintain it, so when we could use it it was in tip top condition.
I was worried that there wasn`t going to be enough shade at the house but there was quite a lot and owing to the weather we didn`t really have to test this out.
The house was sometimes quite hot at night and we had a bit of a problem with mosquitoes. There are air conditioning units in nearly all the room but sadly they do not work. This would have made a big difference.
The house was very well equipped. It would have been useful to have an inventory so that we knew exactly what there was there. The kitchen was packed full of equipment but on one day we struggled to find a tin opener.
There were just 5 of us in the house and it worked well. Only one bedroom has a bathroom actually in the room. The downstairs bedroom has a basin and shower in the room but you come out for the toilet. The very large bedroom upstairs has a bath in it and basins but you had to go out for the toilet and separate shower. There was hardly any storage in that bedroom and so I used the bedroom that we were not using as a dressing room. Storage would have been tricky if the bedroom had been used and there had been 3/4 people in the large room.
The house was very quiet except for at weekends the neigbour and his children played outside and were VERY raucous.
My main problem with the house was the stairs. They were open plan. I suffer badly from vertigo and found them extremely difficult to cope with.
The family were very welcoming and met us at the beginning of our stay. We had no problems and so did not see them again until the end (except for Serge sorting out the pool. He came quite early and so I didn`t see him then!)
No restaurants in walking distance. My husband did walk to the boulangerie each morning which was a brisk 45ish minute walk.
There are lots of good restaurants in the nearby towns.
