Sweet studio jungle hideaway, just for two.
Sharyn is an actress, writer, speech therapist, permaculturalist & interior decorator. At the moment, she's enjoying theatre improv and working on a one woman monologue show, which she'll perform in a few months. Jeff is a retired dentist - now he specializes in metaphysical counseling, and is expanding his hypnosis practice into Subconscious Training. (Previously he used these skills in working with phobic patients in dentistry - but these skills have much wider applications and he's having fun expanding them). We have one young son, Kai Nalu, aged 19, who was born here in Maui. He's a heck of a surfer! We also have an older son, Adrian, who lives in England with his lovely German wife, Antje and their 2 totally cute kids. We're too young to have grandchildren! aaaggghh!!! But what a treat!
Sharyn purchased this Cottage in 1992
Why Sharyn chose Huelo
Huelo is off the beaten path, wild and wonderful. Who could resist? We have a constant trade wind, so we never 'bake' like the west side ... and here the landscape is lush, so it's easy to do our organic gardening. We wanted a Maui dream escape, but also wanted some conveniences, and these we have aplenty!
What makes this Cottage unique
Privacy and relaxation are things that are priceless. So many people find they rediscover those things, when they stay with us. Romance too, of course - that comes naturally when you've re-created that space for just for yourselves. This is the natural part of Maui - not 'manicured' or 'manufactured' to be part of a Hollywood image. Here, you discover the 'real' Maui - exotic ... waterfalls ... bamboo forests ... soaring ocean cliffs ... nesting seabirds ... wild ocean ... what we dream of, when we say 'Hawaii'. Here, you'll feel 'remote', but still enjoy the conveniences of having access to 3 small towns (Pa'ia, Makawao and Haiku) for easy grocery pickup, P.O., delightful boutiques & fun restaurants.

Short but sweet
Beautiful location. The fruit trees on property were a fun touch. Truly like waking up in the jungle only quiet and peaceful
Property is great and we wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Our bungalow had everything we needed including well stocked kitchen, grill, beach gear and is very private. Staff are friendly and are available as much as you need them. There is a short walk down a path leading to spectator cliff views. Property is clean, well maintained, and wonderfully landscaped with trees and vegetation. About a 20 min drive back east to local restaurants or cook at home like we did several nights (Mana foods is great for groceries and fresh meat and fish). We stayed in June 2019.
Jungle Experience Away From Crowds
My husband and I don’t golf and we weren’t interested in going all the way to Maui to stay in a huge condo complex. This cottage serves as the perfect home base if you want to get out and explore and have a nice place to come back and relax! For me the sketchy internet service allowed me to disconnect; there is a landline if someone needs to get in touch. The outdoor shower was refreshing and the hot tub clean and relaxing under the stars. The owner was very helpful with recommendations. If you are high maintenance consider a resort. We can’t wait to go back again in the future.
Sorry about our sketchy internet, Ashley! Hawaiiantel is promising us fiberoptic cable, so hopefully, by the time you get back, it will be a REALITY!!!! Thank you both for being such sweet guests. We look forward to your return.
We were happily surprise about the site, it was fabulous! We had everything we needed to cook for a romantic diner! The outside spa was great. Thanks for the surprises in the frig!!
Shhhh! Otherwise it won't be a surprise!!! Hey Mark & Chantal - glad you enjoyed your stay with us! Don't you just LOVE that outside hot tub? Blessings and, of course, please come back again!
Beautiful, charming, remote place.
We had a lovely stay in the Haleakala Cottage at the Huelo Point Lookout. Our cottage was charming with everything we needed to be comfy. A well equipped kitchen, private hot tub and comfortable bed. The gardens are lovely. The staff was delightful and helpful. We were greeted upon arrival with fresh eggs, bread, fruit and wine. So great!
This place is remote and a bit of a drive to just about anywhere. But if you are looking for peace and quiet after a busy day you will love it here.
"Aloha" Cathy & Jeff - so glad we got to spend a little time chatting! You deserve a special award for braving some of Maui's worst weather EVER! (Take a peek on our Facebook page for pics of Mt Haleakala, complete with SNOW). Fortunately we're equipped for such emergencies with generators etc and your little cottage is as solid as a rock! Glad you enjoyed our peace and quiet … and that feeling of being 'away from it all' (though it is only a 20 minute drive into Haiku for groceries and fabulous restaurants :):):) We're definitely in a bit of a world of our own here (and, these days, rather enjoy that aspect of life, right?)
Blessings to you both for being delightful guests!

Beautiful cottage + Outstanding host! Best vacation ever!
My best friend and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Haleakala cottage for 6 days. It was even more beautiful and comfortable than we had hoped. This place is a must stay if you get the chance. It's a quick 45 min from the airport, 15 minutes from Paia and less than 5 minutes from one of the most amazing waterfalls on the island! We went swimming in that fall every morning. Sharyn is an incredibly gracious host and we walked in to find fresh fruit from the trees on the property, fresh eggs from their chicken, and a kitchen fully stocked with everything you might need. They even had a washer and dryer just a stones throw away that they granted us the use of. If you're traveling to Maui and looking to get a real island experience away from the resort towns, surrounded by the true beauty the island is known for... YOU MUST STAY HERE! We seriously can not wait to come back!!!
Well, as one lot of foodies to another, we want to thank YOU lovely, lovely people for being very special guests! Such delightful generosity! Such a plethora of gifts! (My young workers are still raving about all your treats - as am I! Chili Mango? Oh yay!) Seriously, Allison & Lauren, we sooooo enjoyed having you with us. (Our chickens say a special 'mahalo').
Blessings to two very special people,
Sharyn, Jeff, Jess and all our helpers here at Huelo Pt Lookout
