Wonderful Roman holiday

  • 5 of 5

This was our first experience with VRBO. We used a similar service in Hawaii a few times, so we had some comfort in the process. VRBO provides a great service and communication forum. The property description and pictures are a very good representation of Marco's apartment. Now on to the apartment. For this our first trip to Rome, we decided to stay in Trastevere. The area is very local. Although some graffiti on walls, we always felt safe in the apartment, restaurants, walking around (even at night). Marco's apartment is on the 3rd floor over a restaurant (basically 4th floor). We only used the lift on arrival/departure days for luggage. Wonderful windows that open to the surroundings are in each bedroom, kitchen, hallway and the big bathroom. In mid-October we didn't need the AC or fans. Marco outfitted the apartment with the little things such as books, cookware, clothes drying rack (clothes washer only), iron & board. The space was larger than my wife and I needed, but the rate is reasonable and it gave us room to stretch out. The large bedroom at the front looks onto the piazza. What a show you can see in the evening... or sit in the bar or wine bar across the piazza. We left the windows open at night and didn't have any problems with street-level noise. The beds were large in 2 of the bedrooms. We didn't use the small bathroom very much. The large bathroom has recently had a make-over. Great double sink, bidet, etc. The shower is good tile/glass door. No tub in either bathroom, but not a big deal for us. The closets and wardrobes provide plenty of storage space. We used the washing machine, fridge and iron in the kitchen, but no cooking as there are several great restaurants (at least 12 between Piazza Giuditta Tavani Arquati and Piazza di Santa Maria). Breakfast of pastry and café at Long Island Night Café (it's different having a little breakfast in a bar while staring at liquor bottles, but that's Italy!) across the piazza is nice. Marco's place is very convenient for walking to all the sights you come to Rome to see, even for a couple of middle-aged Americans. Marco's apartment added to the great memories created in Trastevere. Marco was great to work with in the booking (my credit card co. initially declined the charge, and Marco held the reservation while I straightened out Chase). Upon arrival, Marco showed us the features of the apartment so we understood how everything worked. Marco's place is fabulous.

Great stay. Spacious apartment in beautiful area of Rome.

We enjoyed our stay though it was a bit noisy at night especially on Saturday night with the master bedroom right above the piazza and lots of open air restaurants and bars. The owner was helpful and we loved the authenticity of the apartment and the area.

Just Wonderful.

  • 5 of 5

The flat is lovely. A massive bedroom that over looks the square, and two slightly smaller rooms that look out the other side. Two bathrooms, both with showers and loo and a nice kitchen (we didn't really use it but was perfect for what we needed). It was spotlessly clean, beds were really comfortable and with nice bedlinen. I think there is heating but we didn't need it. There is a small sitting area that we used and suited us just fine. Location is perfect. Our new fav spot in Roma! Wine bars and restaurants literally 2 meters from the flat and other shops just around the corner. Also an easy walk over the bridge into the main part of the town. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Marco, the owner is very accommodating and makes sure you are comfortable in the apartment. Because the living room was converted into a bedroom, there really is not anywhere you can sit down and be comfortable and discuss your day with your flat mates or family. There's a small table in the kitchen that can accommodate four people, and there's two small couches that can accommodate four people in the hallway. But if there are more than four of you there is nowhere for everybody to sit down and have a chat. The apartment is very nice and comfortable, and most people don't go to Rome to sit around an apartment all day and talk. However it would be nice if there was a more comfortable area that accommodates more than four people to sit and make plans or discuss the day. AC in one bedroom, fans in the other two. I slept in one of the bedrooms without air-conditioning and was marginally comfortable. It was in the high 90s each day so coming home in the afternoon was tough, but it did cool down a bit at night so sleeping wasn't too much of a problem. Italy in mid July is always very hot and this summer it was hotter than usual. AC in the entire flat would be nice but on the other hand, I'm not going to travel to Italy mid July again. Bottom line, i would definitely stay here again, but not in the middle of the summer.

Centrally located, beautiful apartment.

  • 4 of 5

We lived the apartment, located on a lively piazza a block from the river. Through no fault of the owners, it was ridiculously hot in Rome during our stay, and only one bedroom was air conditioned. Aside from that, we loved our stay and thank our hosts.
