To learn more about Winter activities: Les Contamines combines truly stunning views with exceptional snow cover. Mont Blanc towers above the village, whilst its secluded location ensures that it remains relatively quiet and truly unspoilt. Its snowfall record is the envy of many big name resorts, and virtually all of the skiing is above 1900m. The delightful local open slopes are ideal for sunny cruising whilst the regional pass covers some of the best skiing in Europe, including the varied pistes of St Gervais and Megeve. Les Contamines’s local ski area, with over 120km of uncrowded pistes has many wonderful runs through the trees. Two telecabins take you up to the main area at Le Signal where at 1,900m, the majority of the skiing begins and extends upwards. Excellent snow cover is assured from December to the end of April providing for superb spring snow skiing. Additionally there are 29km of cross-country skiing and for snow boarders there is a floodlit half-pipe in town and a snow park.

To learn more about Summer activities: Megeve and Chamonix golf courses are 30 mins. and 40 mins. respectively away. Both are first class courses. Evian and Annency are a little further away, but well worth the trip. There is a very scenic golf driving range in the village adjacent to the swimming lake + bar and restaurant.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'We really enjoyed our stay in Les Contamines and Jolyvue. The Chalet was ideal, close to town but quiet enough to really relax. Les Contamines was a very friendly place with plenty to offer. We were treated one evening to a spectacular fireworks display over the boating lake in the gorge. We would really recommend the 'L'Air de temps' restaurant for the food and the atmosphere.' J&A. P

Cozy, Comfortable Chalet

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week at Chalet Jolyvue. This apartment is really charming and has all the comforts of home you could ever need. We were so comfortable there - a family of 5 fits perfectly. The upstairs has sloping ceilings which may be a hindrance for teenagers or adults, but our 3 children loved it and it adds to the character of the chalet. It is a great cozy place to come back to after a day of skiing. Fluffy bath towels, warm down comforters, open fireplace, and a selection of dvd's make the chalet very homey. It is also very clean and tidy and an excellent value for the money. It's very close to the Les Contamines ski resort - and the village is within walking distance. A car is useful for getting to the ski resort and other towns nearby. The chalet is located near the top of hill and snow tires or chains are definitely needed in the winter. I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a relaxing week with your family. We were able to book into the ski school on-line and rent our equipment in the village. There are some shops, bakeries, and restaurants - but overall Les Contamines is a quaint, quiet village. The views from the tops of the mountains are breathtaking. Many thanks to the owners for letting us stay and experiencing their hidden secret in France!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind review - on the headroom upstairs, it is a chalet style apartment with characteristic sloping ceilings but there is lots of headroom and we regularly have guests over 6 foot staying with no banged heads!

Chalet Jolyvue- just perfect

  • 5 of 5

This is a comfortable, clean and well equipped chalet. Decorated in smart but traditional style, with great cooking/self catering facilities. Well located to walk down to the village, or to walk from the door into the National park. Bedrooms are smallish but the beds are comfortable. Bathrooms are likewise small, but clean and functional, with ample hot water. It is warm in winter, and well ventilated in summer. The balcony is very pleasant at all times of day! We have stayed here several times, and the arrangements have always been reliable, and the local resort manager helpful if needed.Car Parking good.We would use the chalet again, and would certainly recommend it to friends and family( and have already done so!)

Amazing chalet in lovely village

  • 5 of 5

We spent one week at Chalet Jolyvue in the February half term holidays with our children and had fantastic snow and sunshine everyday which was a real plus. The chalet is located just up the hill from the main part of the town, in a lovely quiet area of les Contamines, so its peaceful and the chalet benefits from sunshine on the balcony a lot longer than for those in the main part of town. The chalet is really comfortable and it was a real joy to put logs into the open fire after a hard day skiing every day and to relax with our family. Also, as we work for ourselves, it was essential to have access to WIFI, and this was a real benefit, so that we could keep track with work after being out on the pistes. We spent some lovely evenings at the kitchen table with the fire crackling behind our backs, catching up on the day's skiing and playing cards, and we were so sad to leave! But we are happy to be booking to come back again next year.

We have had a great time. The apartment had plenty of space for our family of 4. Our children aged 16 and 13 were pleased to have the privacy of their own bedrooms and having toilet/bathroom facilities both upstairs and downstairs made life a lot more comfortable. The chalet was impeccably clean and the kitchen was well stocked both with utensils and consumables. We had brought so much food and cleaning materials which weren't necessary. We suggest you do liase with Alex and Hugh in this respect prior to going out there. The bedrooms were all a good size and i think my wife would confirm there was plenty of hanging space in the wardrobes! There is a garage where we kept the bikes and there is plenty of room for off road parking. The chalet is situated maybe a couple of hundred feet above the town centre but it takes just 5 minutes to walk down and less than 10 to walk back up. We rode our bikes down the hill most mornings for croissants and the climb is shallow enough to cycle back up again.

Les Contamines has a very nice safe feel about it and residential areas and the town itself is/are well manicured and attractive with lots of flowers. There is so much to do in the area in summertime. Our children loved swimming in the local lake and in the same dedicated area there is high wire adventures in the trees, mini golf, tennis, volley ball and basketball courts, golf driving range, horse riding, rock climbing, take a cable car up the mountain and cycle down, various companies offer paragliding and white water rafting. There are good walks right from the chalet and the choice of walks in the area is great. Eating out wasn't cheap due to the current exchange rate but not excessive and we had taken that into account so there were no surprises, however, we found the apartment so comfortable we were happy to stay in, cook a meal, have a drink and watch a family movie. We were also delighted to note the near absence of mosquitoes. Whether that was because the apartment is on the first floor up or the general altitude we couldn't say. We made a day trip to Annecy, the old town is beautiful as is the lake, but avoid the weekends as the place was packed.

The weather has been great, mid 20's to mid 30's for 2 weeks, but you have to take rain gear as well. As a measure of the holidays success, we asked the children whether they would want to come back to Les Contamines in the future to which they both offered a resounding YES.

Très bien

  • 5 of 5
