Very nice, centrally located apartment but...

  • 3 of 5

The apartment was lovely and more spacious than usual for European one bedroom. The apartment had all the amenities, but sorely lacked the very basics for a rental of this class. The kitchen had plenty of pots and pans, microwave, hop, washer, etc., but no salt, sugar, detergent, paper towels, and all the little things that a traveler needs because you can't buy small quantities of those things. As an example, after three days we ran out of toilet paper, and we had to go to the market to get some- the smallest quantity we could buy was 8 rolls so we wound up leaving 6 rolls there. Hopefully they will still be there when the next guest arrives. Also, as Americans we were not familiar with how the European appliances worked so it was a challenge to figure out the hob and washing machine. So introductory instructions would have been nice, but the person who met us at the apartment not only didn't offer any help, she gave us the wrong address and couldn't even open the door to the apartment once we found it. The A/C was wonderful.

Another problem we faced was that the drain in the shower was clogged when we arrived and having no dam on the shower meant that the floor of the bath flooded. I contacted the young lady who met us and told her about it and assumed it would be fixed. However, when we returned and took a shower, the same flooding occurred. Finally, I was able to reach the owner and she had the problem rectified. The drain was clogged by a hair ball that had to have been there for months if not years. True, this was a one time thing, but it does go to show the level of maintenance being done.

On the other hand, the apartment location was great. On the west side of the river, we overlooked the Cathedral (apt. was well insulated and we never heard the bells) and the old medieval portion of the river. One bridges across the river to the old section was about 10 steps from the apartment. For dinner, we not only had the restaurants in the old section, but a load of very good restaurants in the Plaza of Independence a 3 minute walk from the apartment.

On one day, we decided to take a bus to Figueres to see the Dali Theater and Museum (which is spectacular and well worth the trip) and we were able to catch the bus from around the corner. Very convenient. The train takes a half hour and the bus an hour, but it is a 15 minute walk each way to and from the train station so time wise there was no difference and the bus schedule is better

Owner's Response: We are happy you liked the apartment itself, the appliances, the decoration and the situation. We love to take care of it and keep improving with every guest. Regarding the maintenance, we maintain it super good, with our super proffessional cleaning team and we have a technician as well to help our guests with any little problem that might happen (such as the shower clogged that as soon as you called me I had solved in the following hour), the shower is cleaned allways perfectly but as in any shower you cannot control the hair that goes down the tube and you can't see. Anyway, now it is solved. Regarding the amentinties we always bring, as you enjoyed, toilet paper, shower gel, shampoo, hand soap, a cleaning set (with dishwasher spontex, kitchen rag, rubbish bags...) and if you need more and you ask for it we bring it immediately! For the salt, oil, etc. we keep bringing some to the apartment every once in a while but is something difficult to control and easy to buy for our guests in the supermarket that you have very close to the aparment. As mentioned at the beggining, I am happy you liked everything but this 2 minor things.
