Why Anna Crawford chose Castelnuovo Berardenga
Chiusarella is set within the private and exclusive Villa D'Arceno Estate in an outstanding location with spectacular views from its elevated position. The Villa is stand alone and surrounded by an extensive, maintained garden offering total privacy and a real opportunity to commune with nature, while enjoying the extra services and a Five Star Concierge provided by 'Arceno Rentals Club'. THE ESTATE OF VILLA ARCENO The estate of Arceno is 1000 hectares of forest, vineyards, olive groves, cypress avenues, dotted with traditional farmhouses 'the Casali', of which, some are enigmatic ruins awaiting restoration. The 'Villa' of the estate dates from the 16th century with its own chapel, romantic park and lake. Its original owners would have managed the estate directing the workers who once lived in the Casali. Casanova once a working Casale is now with modern benefits for those who wish to relax and enjoy the stunning views of the Chianti.
What makes this Villa unique
The complimentary Five Star Concierge service is provided before and throughout your stay. The Concierge can procure visits, excursions, car rental, with or without chauffeur, cooking lessons, private chef or housekeeper, and many other services. (Extra charges will apply.) For guests staying seven nights or more, we provide fully inclusively a generous 'WELCOME BASKET' of quality food & wines from local suppliers, enough for the first weekend. We also provide a continuous supply of FREE quality Arceno Rentals Club ‘HOUSE WINE’ throughout your stay. A FREE BAR of branded spirits and Italian liqueurs is also provided to be enjoyed during your stay. The region is stuffed with history, art, food and wine. With Italy’s excellent road network, in Tuscany Florence, San Giminiano, le Crete, Pienza, Montalcino, Cortona, Arezzo and in Umbria Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio and Todi are within easy reach for day trips. Restaurants, wine tours, visits to the nearest towns and hamlets in Tuscany to breath in art and history, sports and more. Around Arceno, the nearby little towns offer all kind of Italian cooking, from the traditional “trattoria” that offers the most typical Tuscan food to a Michelin starred restaurant. A favourite restaurant is ‘La Bottega del Trenta’ in Villa a Sesta for a fantastic fine food experience and a warm welcome by Hélène the owner. While Arceno is blessed by fantastic wines produced on the estate, in the surrounding territory there are some other wine producers whose mantra is “excellency”. A visit to these cellars and vineyards cannot go amiss during a vacation in Tuscany. During the year the territory offers events whose roots stem from the past. The famous ‘Palio’ horse race is the main event in Siena held twice annually on 2nd July and the 16th August. In May the “Millemiglia” runs through Siena, an ancient car racing from north to south of Italy and making a stop in Piazza del Camp, in October the "Ecomaratona" is run alsothrough Arceno

Great Villa perfect for a group fantastic location
What a treat, within the exclusive estate of Arceno (that we know very well), lies this hidden gem. The owner and the team of Arceno Rentals try to keep it as a secret place and we were lucky the Villa was available. We have been there two year ago late summer but also at winter time the house is just fantastic. Well organised, local team extremely supportive but never intrusive, a luxury holiday worth a five star hotel stay. Views to die for and plenty of local goodies. We travel in a group of friends and some of us stayed at Chiusarella. Worth to return!
THE MOST AMAZING PIECE OF HEAVEN IN TUSCANY ! ! !
The property is extraordinary— from the unbelievable pool to the totally modernized and super-well appointed main house— this piece of heaven perched on a hillside not far from Sienna was the sought after retreat for our family between trips in Paris and Rome. The hospitality (thank you Gaia and Ilaria) was the best— super responsive and awesome recommendations for food and entertainment. The local chef, Andrea, was so great we booked him a couple of nights! Can’t recommend enough!
Another Month in Paradise
This was our second stay at Chiusarella and though we didn’t think it possible, it was even better than the first. The property has been maintained with great care and the management was as helpful and gracious as we could have hoped for.
The private Arceno Estate on which the villa is situated is a unique and special oasis in the heart of Tuscany. While the authentic local restaurants and numerous places of interest make Chiusarella a perfect home base for exploring the region, some of our favorite days and evenings were the ones when we never left the estate.
We highly recommend this property and will be back in 2019!
Enchanting stay and experience
We were so delighted with our stay at Chiusarella. The villa was in immaculate condition, the views were spectacular, the pool was an incredible luxury on the hot days of July. We lacked for nothing really. We were 3 couples sharing the space and there was plenty of room for all of us. The welcome basket was well stocked, as was the refrigerator when we arrived. The wine provided was very good.
A highlight of our stay was when Chef Andrea took the ladies into the local towns and showed us how to shop for the ingredients that he would later use in our meal that evening. We went to the butcher, the fruit and vegetable market, a coffee shop and a winery. When he arrived, two of us got a fun and relaxed cooking lesson before the Chef and Sous-chef Eliza took over and served a delicious feast along with plenty of wine.
San Gusme was just a short walk through the woods and was very quaint and picturesque. We rented a van from the airport and were able to drive ourselves all over the Chianti region. For our day of winery visits in Montalcino, Gaia arranged a driver for us. She was quite accommodating and was reachable by phone at any time.
We hated to leave, but came away with great vacation memories that we won't soon forget. We would return in a moment's notice! Highly recommended!
Attention to Detail!
This is a really great property with excellent management. Probably the best place we've stayed (twice) in coming to the Chianti region every year for over 20 years. Example: every potted plant -- and there are a great many -- is drip irrigated! Property is secluded but also secure in that the development has roving security folks (not obtrusive). Both pool and house have exceptional views and are up to date and well-maintained. Our local host (Gaia) was delightful and personable in addition to helping us with some special reservations and general information about the area. And who can fault the unlimited wine! Go!
A beautiful location with stunning views of Tuscany valley and bell tower in town of San Gusme
We had a great stay at Chiusarella and completely enjoyed the villa and all the extra amenities including the wine and welcome basket which saved us an evening trip out on our 1st night. Views are stunning especially for sunsets over the hilltops. Beds and bedrooms were all very comfortable and kitchen is extremely well equipped for your culinary pursuits. We explored all the major hilltops towns in Tuscany by rented van from this villa so location is quite good. It is in the Chanti Classico region with good access to major highways to Siena and hilltop towns via town of Castelneuvo. Although not quite warm enough for the pool, the pool and pool side terraces were beautiful and views spectacular.. Well worth the short climb up the hill but bring all your beverages and food up with you. Grills available up at pool and on lower terrace by villa. Walk into San Gusme is very steep, up and down so we chose not to walk it. About a 15 minute drive via the main road. The drive into the Villa on Arceno estate grounds are on gravel roads and a bit further than we expected (about 10 minutes on gravel roads) but worth the drive for the privacy and beautiful views.
Famous for food and wine there are many places to go, to discover the flavours of Chianti. As passive or active participants, you may either eat and drink the local produce or take cooking lessons or learn about wine making at source. The active may play a round of golf or go horse riding. There are thermal spas or the seaside should a fun day out be preferred. Packed full of history and art, an almost endless list of galleries, exhibitions, museums, churches, palaces and other secrets only the locals know await to be discovered.
San Gusmè is a short walk from Chiusarella on a path leading through the forest, over a brook. Have lunch, coffee or eveb dinner at one of the local bars and restaurants and admire the view towards Siena and the ‘Torre del Mangia’.
A favourite restaurant is ‘La Bottega del Trenta’ in Villa a Sesta for a fantastic fine food experience and a warm welcome by Hélène the owner.
One of the main events in Siena is the famous Palio’ horse race held annually on 2nd July and the 16th August. If visiting Siena around these dates Arceno Rentals Club can arrange the purchase of tickets, for an ‘unparalleled experience'!
From the poolside at Chiusarella there are fantastic views towards the famous Crete, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Monte Amiata the highest peak in the area. A car is necessary to travel around and all areas of the estate are reached by ‘strade bianche’, unpaved roads. Although most are public these roads are quiet, allowing walking, cycling and jogging in peace.
The region is stuffed with history, art, food and wine and with Italy’s excellent road network, Florence, San Giminiano, le Crete, Pienza, Montalcino, Cortona, Arezzo, Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio and Todi are within easy reach for day trips.
A car is necessary to get about but the nearest village, San Gusme can be accessed by foot along a pathway leading from Chiusarella to San Gusmè. All areas of the estate are reached by ‘strade bianche’, literally, white roads which are unpaved. Although most are public these roads are quiet, allowing walking, cycling and jogging in peace.
