About Marion and Gary Tilton
Our family has lived on the island for 235 years! I am a Bermudian who was raised in this exceptional home. My father who was a jeweler on the island, was raised in the 300 year old house next door which is now owned by my brother! My father was given this piece of his Dad's farmland with lovely views when he was ready to be married to my Mom. My Mom met my Dad when she and her sister came to Bermuda on a flying boat in 1948 from their home in Philadelphia. My Mom and Dad built this house you will be visiting, and we hope you love it as much as we do. I have always had one foot in Bermuda and one in the US. I moved to the US in 1980 to become a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines. A perfect profession for an islander privileged to have dual citizenship! I married a lovely New Hampshireite, Gary, in 1987. We have 2 children who have always loved Bermuda and have their status in Bermuda, having spent much time here.
Marion and Gary Tilton purchased this House in 1951
Why Marion and Gary Tilton chose Smiths
This much revered piece of property has been in our family for several generations. I say revered because it is on the second highest hill on the island with wonderful views. It is far enough away from the main roads that you hardly hear a vehicle! Bermuda is a gem of an island, then you get to High Terraces, and you feel like you are on your own, very private. Like you are the Crown Jewel in a very special spot. You have to understand though, our house is on the reasonable side of pricing for a reason! It is lovely, but it isn't a hotel!! In the summer every scrap of food must be put away quickly, as ants will find it wherever it is! If you have allergies it might not be the right place. We have heat and air conditioning to dry the atmosphere, but we've have a guest say it was musty at first! Welcome to our island!
What makes this House unique
Spectacular location for walkers, hikers. Getting away from it all, and for those who want to show their family what it is like to be a real Bermudian! The house is filled with good feelings and wonderful memories for me. I grew up here with five cousins next door, and other friends and family nearby. We walked down the hill almost every day in the summer to Harrington Sound. The odd day we didn't go there we were in our boat, or at one of the fabulous South Shore Beaches. We had forts on the properties, hand raised crows for pets when our parents wouldn't spring for a horse or a dog!!

Wonderful ,feels like home has everything you need or will want low key. Great beautiful views morning noon and night!!!!! Just go ASAP!!!!
Thank you!! We're so glad you had a great time. My sister, Tricia, enjoyed meeting you.
Come back again!
We LOVED our recent stay at High Terraces. The location is ideal - convenient to everything - and the view is just amazing. The house itself is clean, well-appointed, VERY quiet and so comfortable for our family of four (parents and two grown children). Nothing better than sitting outside at night with a nightcap, enjoying the twinkling lights across Harrington Sound and the sounds of tree frogs. We rented two Tazzari cars from Oleander and were very happy to have the electric chargers you recently installed. All in all a wonderful vacation thanks to your generous sharing of your family house! We'll be back for sure.
Our second visit to this great property
This is the way to really experience Bermuda. A great house with a gorgeous view of Harrington Sound. Pick groceries down the hill and BBQ in the yard. Having a scooter will help you get around.
Thank you so much for your review of our Bermuda family home!
We're glad you came for your second visit and hope you'll come again!
You're already speaking like a Bermudian saying pick up groceries "down the hill!"
Fabulous as Advertised
I can't imagine a better location to enjoy the island Paradise of Bermuda than this! The house at the top of the hill in Smith's Parish is quiet, roomy and the views of Harrington Sound are breathtaking. Perfect size for our family of 5 for a week of fun in the sun.
The house is older but nicely renovated and with new appliances in the kitchen. The gas grill came in handy when we decided to enjoy a quiet meal at home.
The house is very convenient to the bus lines (thank you for the passes!) but we ended up renting a twizy and scooters to get around. The twizy charger came in very handy.
All in all the best vacation our family has had in a long time. Thanks Marion and Gary for a beautiful experience we won't forget!
Thank you!!! It's the best thing for us when we know our guests had a good time at our family home and Bermuda!!
Especially when it's your first time to our uniquely special island that's so short a flight from the East coast!
We hope your family will return again and again!
Just returned from a week at High Terraces. The pictures on line do not do it justice. The house is beautiful. It is clean, the beds are comfortable, and you are supplied with everything you could possibly need for your vacation. The views are some of the most spectacular on the island. We have come to Bermuda for 28 years and this house supplied the best views by far. We were lucky to meet Marion and Gary in person. They are lovely people who went over and above to help us. We had a medical emergency when we were there and Marion and her sister were there to get us information on where to go and Marion even took time out of her day to take us to the hospital. I can't say enough about her. We loved being located in Smiths, close to St George, Southampton Beaches, Hamilton and the Dockyard. We will definitely be back to High Terraces!
We loved having your family stay at High Terraces! We enjoyed meeting you and thank you for your patience with us as we had some tree work done!
Thank you for taking the time to express your feelings about Bermuda and our family home!
It is so exciting for us when our guests love Bermuda and also our home.
Thank you and come again!!
Beautiful views and prompt service
The property was very clean and has amazing views of the island. The property manager (Marion) was very nice and provide led me with prompt service when I had any questions.
Spittal Pond Nature Reserve is a 15 minute walk away at the bottom of Harrington Hundreds Hill, on the other side of the street from Harrington Hundreds Grocery, a small very nice market.
The Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo, an internationally recognized facility, is a 20 minute walk, where it is located in a lovely village called Flatt's. Find restaurants, views, beautiful scenes.
If you feel more comfortable using the busses than renting mopeds, the number 3 bus goes half hourly during the day, up to 6pm to the city of Hamilton and to St Georges or Grotto Bay. You can get off the bus to walk over to John Smith's Bay Beach, about a 10 minute walk. The beach is a 1.7 mile walk from our house. You can also take the bus to Crystal Caves, Grotto Bay and the boat, scuba, etc, rental shop next door.
So many wonderful things to do. We had one guest who stayed 3 times one winter, say you need to let people know how easy to access the whole island you are!
