A completely renovated, very spacious five bedroom detached Charentaise house on the edge of a small hamlet, overlooking open countryside - yet only two miles from the small market town of St Savinien.

The property has been the subject of a total renovation and has been completely refitted throughout. It is comfortably equipped with quality furniture and appliances. Bed linen and towels are included in the rental price.

The house comprises: a huge well-fitted dining kitchen with seating for up to 12 guests, a massive central lounge with TV and seating for 7, and further large lounge with two settees seating 6. A Utility room with washing machine & tumble dryer and a downstairs WC / Shower room.

Upstairs - A huge master bedroom & en suite shower room. Three further double bedrooms, family bathroom with shower and a small single bedroom.

Outside - large gardens and terraces. Safety fenced, heated private pool (8x4 metres), & infants splash pool, garden sauna cabin, parking & carport.

In the garden: A large Table Tennis table, a Basketball Hoop, a Badminton / Volleyball Net and Football Goals. For the under fives; a splash pool, a little tykes playhouse and a slide.

We also have a selection of bicycles for all ages - ranging from 3 years upwards.

  • We have three fully equipped bathrooms and there is also a solar powered shower on the pool deck along with a sauna cabin.

  • The master bedroom has a super-king 6ft wide double bed, the 2nd bedroom has a 5ft king size double bed and bedroom 3 has a regular size double bed. Bedroom four has two single beds and bedroom five has one single bed. There are also two good quality fold-up single beds and two cots which can be used in any room. The layout of the house makes it ideal for two families sharing as in total we have three double beds, seven single beds and two cots.

The house has two large lounges / sitting rooms. It was set this way so that one room could be used if adults want to get away from the kids! There is also a small study area with a desk and chair and WiFi Internet Access. TV in each lounge, One TV has a UK 'Free to Air' Satellite system - receives BBC, ITV, News & other channels and French stations. Video, DVD player and I-Pod Speakers. We have a good selection of classic kids Disney / Pixar type DVD's & Video's and a range of classic and recent films for teenagers and Adults. There are also many holiday reading type books / novels in the house and a selection of board games. For out of season rentals the house is very warm and cozy in the Autumn, Winter and Spring months. It has a full gas central heating and wood burners in the Kitchen and in both Lounges. For the youngest family members we have two high-chairs & stair gates and two cots.

Family celebration

A magnificent property. Superbly renovated, superbly equipped and situated in a beautiful rural area in Charente Maritime but within easy reach of towns/cities like La Rochelle, Saintes, Cognac, Royan etc. We were there to celebrate major birthdays and other anniversaries with our children and grandchildren and the house was excellent for these purposes with plenty of space and activities for the various age groups in comfort. The owners have been very helpful, friendly and efficient throughout our dealings and their local managers were also helpful with local advice. We have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Perfect house for 2 families

We were blown away when we arrived at the house as it was even more lovely than it looked in the pictures. It was all kept very up together and clean and was kitted out with everything we needed for our stay. Even though we didn't have the best weather, it didn't stop us using the pool almost every day which was heated to around 32 degrees! We could have quite happily not left the house all week, however, it was an ideal base as there was lots to do and see in the surrounding area. We would highly recommend the zoo at Royan which is an hour's drive away. The owners of the property have been very helpful and friendly. We would definitely come back to the house and recommend it to anyone.

Fabulous gite

This property has been beautifully restored. All of the rooms are very tastefully designed with very comfortable furniture. Large kitchen and a lot of outdoor space. Great pool with splash pool and lots of toys and amusements for kids of all ages. It is very well maintained and clean. Ten of us stayed in this give, age ranging from 1 year to 70 years and we all loved it and would recommend a week or even 2! It is very central to lovely towns like Saintes or Cognac and beaches like Forars or Royan. It was easy to book and the owners are delightful to deal with.

Thoroughly recommended - excellent!

Thoroughly recommended, the most comfortable holiday we’ve ever had!

If you’ve ever dreamed of paradise in the French countryside, this charming villa is for you! It is set in beautiful rural surroundings, perfect for photography - especially in the height of summer when the sunflowers in surrounding fields are in full bloom!

The owners have thought about your every need in this beautifully re-built and restored county retreat. The delightful, tastefully furnished spacious maison has plenty of living area – two large lounges - and couples ‘old world’ charm with modern comforts! The large, typically French kitchen was perfect for indoor dining although we spent most of our meal time dining al fresco! We had the choice of either the patio at the back of the house –where we made full use of the table tennis facility and built in BBQ, and the poolside patio – perfect for bathing and watching the children have fun on the toys in the well- stocked garden area. Particularly attractive - and always tempting -was the heated pool! We spent many hours playing with the children, having a sauna and enjoying an early evening glass of wine in the pool (plastic glasses are provided); we simply didn’t want to get out! Our friends with young children also made extensive use of the adjoining side paddling pool which was also heated.

Being built of thick stone, the villa was cool to sleep in and the shutters provided extra French charm. The beds were really comfortable and the 5 large bedrooms provided bags of room. Everything was so clean and well-maintained, we found all we needed – from spare toothbrushes to spare combs!

The property provides a super base for exploring the region too, but best of all – we enjoyed cycling around the sunflower fields and into St Savinien to buy our daily baguettes!. There were plenty of bikes and helmets in varying sizes in the store room.Our boys loved cycling into Saint Savinien - on the banks of the Charente River - we even found a boating lake where they enjoyed sailing whilst we savored the ambience sipping a French beer!

You can choose to switch off from electronics if you wish to but we made full use of the Wifi and flat screen TVs available.

We can’t wait to go again.

One of the best houses in this region!

We have stayed in a number of properties in France over the last few years but few have been as well presented or as comprehensively equipped as this superb house in the Saint-Jean-d'Angely area. Firstly the position of Poussardiere is excellent, a really peaceful rural location with views to the front across rolling countryside and yet just 35 minutes from the airport at Rochfort and less than an hour away from the beautiful town of La Rochelle. Although you probably need a car, local villages are convenient for daily necessities and very friendly (and patient with our pigeon French) and if inclined you can easily nip down to the shops in Saint Savinien a couple of miles away, on one of the various push bikes provided.

We expected great things from the write ups and photographs, and we can honestly say nothing let us down, indeed it was better than we imagined. The house is big! there was plenty of room for everyone, furnishings were quality and comfortable, there was wi-fi, English cable TV and the general presentation was really lovely. It took only minutes to feel completely at home. The swimming pool was clean, warm and great fun, a huge asset to the property, you can’t keep kids out of it! and for the adults there is an excellent ‘hot as you dare’ pine sauna. On cooler evenings we were able to have log fires and play games or read books in the big living rooms.

Cooking and meal preparation was easy in the huge comprehensively equipped and well laid out kitchen with everything you would want together with a useful laundry room.

We would strongly recommend a day out to the very beautiful Il de Re.

In summary - we had a wonderful break in this wonderfully restored traditional house, we thought it represented excellent value and will undoubtedly be back (provided that is, there is any availability left after recommending it to all our friends!).

A super, chilled and relaxing place to stay..

What a wonderful holiday home!

Ourselves and another family went together with 5 children under the age of 5 and found the house ideal. We particularly liked the heated swimming pool with its safety fence and the children loved the pool toys and playing in the gardens.

We had two minor issues - both sorted by the efficient property managers within hours of being reported.

We couldn't fault it!

The house is located two miles from the pretty riverside market town of St Savinien which has a wide range of local shops, a regular market, a Supermarket and leisure activities including an outdoor pool, fishing and children's boating lake.

The Roman town of Saintes is some 15 miles south with a very comprehensive range of shopping, leisure activities and sightseeing including a Roman Amphitheatre. To the north the town of Rochefort is some 15 miles and La Rochelle about 40 miles.

Beaches – the nearest family beach is at Saint Georges de Didonne about a 45 minute drive away.

Riding school for all ages (English spoken) 2 miles. Quad biking 1 mile. The immediate surrounding countryside is superb for cycling with many quiet lanes to explore.

Other Activities: Quad Biking. Horse Riding, Sea Canoeing,
