Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

HALE MAHANA (a restful and hospitable home) is located at the geographical center of Oahu's idyllic North Shore with dramatic ocean views. Experience a taste of 'Old Hawaii' flanked by the legendary shores of Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline, and Sunset Beach. This small section of coast with rock, sand, and coral outcrops, is so spectacular it has been protected by the State of Hawaii as a Marine Life Conservation Area. A bonus is that we are close to the gourmet food truck court - our favorite placed 2nd on top chef.

THE HOUSE has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and an elevated porch with sweeping ocean and sunset views. You will immediately relax in an open airy floorplan. Enjoy the stereo, and cable-equipped big screen TV with DVD. The fully appointed kitchen has granite countertops and facing barstools so you can talk with family and friends as you open a bottle of wine, prepare gourmet meals, or simply throw burgers on the BBQ. The master suite has a king size bed; second bedroom has a queen; and the third has two single beds.

CENTRALLY LOCATED. If you've been to the North Shore before, you'll know why return visitors want to stay in this neighborhood. Snorkeling at Shark's Cove is a 3 minute walk. Breathtaking Ke Iki beach is a 4 minute walk. We are at the south end of a 3 mile bike path which takes you past Pipeline (1 mi.), and Sunset Beach (2 mi.) In the morning, walk 2 blocks along the bike path to Starbucks, or stop at the adjacent Foodland Supermarket.

Drive south for 10 minutes and you find quaint and historic Haleiwa Town with its many restaurants, art galleries, and surf shops. Go north 10 minutes for world class golf at Turtle Bay Resort, or continue around the point to the windward side of the island and the Polynesian Cultural Center. As you explore this part of Oahu, you'll see why locals call the North Shore 'Country,' but driving time to Honolulu Airport is only 45 minutes, and Waikiki is 1 hour.

About Nicholas Maddocks

Aloha friends. Thanks for having a look and I think you'll really like the North Shore. I thought the beach where I grew up in San Clemente California was the best ever – that is until I came here. Now I make 2-3 trips per year. A typical day would be to walk to get coffee, walk by Shark’s Cove; check snorkeling; walk, jog, or ride up the bike path; chores – lot’s of home maintenance when you’re by the ocean; go to the beach – biggest decision – which beach; relax at home; have a cocktail on the lanai and watch the sunset. Mahalo.

Nicholas Maddocks purchased this house in 2005

Why Nicholas Maddocks chose North Shore Oahu

The reason I bought a home in Hawaii is largely attributed to my cousin who moved here when he became director of protected species for NOAA, and led conservation efforts for the Monk Seal and the Honu. All those years he was telling me about the magic of the North Shore. Then his son married a Hawaiian girl and they hosted a week's worth of festivities on the North Shore from Waimea Bay to Sunset Beach. After experiencing the beaches, beauty, and Aloha Spirit firsthand, I was hooked. Soon this home came available and my cousin went there and became my eyes and ears as we talked on the phone. After an hour of detailed communications, I made an offer and bought the house virtually sight unseen! It turned out to be the best move I've ever made and family, friends, and guests have been enjoying it ever since.

What makes this house unique

The best things about the property are the setting (quiet - set back off the highway); view of Shark’s Cove and Pupukea Marine Sanctuary; and perfect location – you can go to Shark’s Cove for snorkeling, walk to several beaches, or walk to Starbucks for coffee!

Beautiful house in a perfect setting!

  • 5 of 5

We cannot say enough about this wonderful home. The house was well equipped, impeccably cleaned, and extremely well situated. We had stunning sunset views over the ocean, we could walk to excellent snorkeling at Sharks Cove and to beautiful beaches, and we could walk to groceries and food trucks. Exploring the North Shore was easy from the house. When we were not exploring, it was a joy to relax in the house, cooled by the ocean breezes. Nick and Monica were a joy to meet and were very gracious hosts. Do yourself a favor and stop looking; you have found your perfect beach home on the North Shore!

Peaceful perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Nick's home was perfect for our family of 5. Situated conveniently between Shark Cove and Ke Iki beach, we snorkeled each day walking the short distance to the rocky entrance. We walked everywhere- FoodLand, Food Trucks, beach and snorkeling. The house had all the amenities of home and we couldn't be happier with our stay. Watching the sunrise and sunset from the lanai put us in the aloha state of mind. Thank you.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our North Shore vacation and this house was so perfect to do lots of things! During our 6 days stay, we did...

*Snorkeling at Sharks Cove x 4 (next door)

*Snorkeling at three table beach

*Snorkeling at Makaha beach

*Swimming at Ke Iki beach x 2 (next door)

*Swimming at Sunset beach

*Trail walking to pillbox x 2

*Running on the bike trail x 2

*Breakfast at Ted Bakery

*Having meals at food track x 4

*Luau and full day activities at Polynesian Cultural Center

*walking/Shopping downtown Haleiwa x 3

We couldn't go to Waimea beach because we couldn't get the parking spot. If you'd like to go to Waimea beach, I recommend you be there by 8am.

House was super clean. There were everything you need, including beach stuff. Nick, house owner, was very friendly and his response was quick. His details house and local activity info were very useful. I highly recommend this house for your North Shore vacation!
