Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

HALE MAHANA (a restful and hospitable home) is located at the geographical center of Oahu's idyllic North Shore with dramatic ocean views. Experience a taste of 'Old Hawaii' flanked by the legendary shores of Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline, and Sunset Beach. This small section of coast with rock, sand, and coral outcrops, is so spectacular it has been protected by the State of Hawaii as a Marine Life Conservation Area. A bonus is that we are close to the gourmet food truck court - our favorite placed 2nd on top chef.

THE HOUSE has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and an elevated porch with sweeping ocean and sunset views. You will immediately relax in an open airy floorplan. Enjoy the stereo, and cable-equipped big screen TV with DVD. The fully appointed kitchen has granite countertops and facing barstools so you can talk with family and friends as you open a bottle of wine, prepare gourmet meals, or simply throw burgers on the BBQ. The master suite has a king size bed; second bedroom has a queen; and the third has two single beds.

CENTRALLY LOCATED. If you've been to the North Shore before, you'll know why return visitors want to stay in this neighborhood. Snorkeling at Shark's Cove is a 3 minute walk. Breathtaking Ke Iki beach is a 4 minute walk. We are at the south end of a 3 mile bike path which takes you past Pipeline (1 mi.), and Sunset Beach (2 mi.) In the morning, walk 2 blocks along the bike path to Starbucks, or stop at the adjacent Foodland Supermarket.

Drive south for 10 minutes and you find quaint and historic Haleiwa Town with its many restaurants, art galleries, and surf shops. Go north 10 minutes for world class golf at Turtle Bay Resort, or continue around the point to the windward side of the island and the Polynesian Cultural Center. As you explore this part of Oahu, you'll see why locals call the North Shore 'Country,' but driving time to Honolulu Airport is only 45 minutes, and Waikiki is 1 hour.

About Nicholas Maddocks

Aloha friends. Thanks for having a look and I think you'll really like the North Shore. I thought the beach where I grew up in San Clemente California was the best ever – that is until I came here. Now I make 2-3 trips per year. A typical day would be to walk to get coffee, walk by Shark’s Cove; check snorkeling; walk, jog, or ride up the bike path; chores – lot’s of home maintenance when you’re by the ocean; go to the beach – biggest decision – which beach; relax at home; have a cocktail on the lanai and watch the sunset. Mahalo.

Nicholas Maddocks purchased this house in 2005

Why Nicholas Maddocks chose North Shore Oahu

The reason I bought a home in Hawaii is largely attributed to my cousin who moved here when he became director of protected species for NOAA, and led conservation efforts for the Monk Seal and the Honu. All those years he was telling me about the magic of the North Shore. Then his son married a Hawaiian girl and they hosted a week's worth of festivities on the North Shore from Waimea Bay to Sunset Beach. After experiencing the beaches, beauty, and Aloha Spirit firsthand, I was hooked. Soon this home came available and my cousin went there and became my eyes and ears as we talked on the phone. After an hour of detailed communications, I made an offer and bought the house virtually sight unseen! It turned out to be the best move I've ever made and family, friends, and guests have been enjoying it ever since.

What makes this house unique

The best things about the property are the setting (quiet - set back off the highway); view of Shark’s Cove and Pupukea Marine Sanctuary; and perfect location – you can go to Shark’s Cove for snorkeling, walk to several beaches, or walk to Starbucks for coffee!

Location is fantastic !

  • 4 of 5

We love it at this location although we needed to hunt for more than one beach chair and found the bikes less than adequate. This is our second stay here and again location, location ! The coolers were great to have available for our daily beach outing to keep beverages cold. All in all a very memorable stay again and a big 'Mahalo' to Nick !

Fantastic stay. Perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved staying here. It's right next to sharks cove. If you like snorkeling then this is the place to be. We saw eels, exotic fish and even a large sea turtle. It was so cool, better than Hanauma Bay. It was also nice to have several beaches close by for just hanging out and boogie boarding. Waimea Falls was right there too. We loved the food trucks that were just up the road. Best eats on the island. Also, Ted's bakery just up north a few mile, soooo good. Loved the beach house. It was easy access to the ocean. Pleanty of room and nice amenities. TVs in every room. Nice for relaxing after a day of adventure. Loved the porch area and roof deck. Great for hanging out and watching the sunset. We will make this a regular stay anytime we come to Oahu. Owner was super friendly and available for any questions. Thanks Nick! We loved your place.

An Amazing Week at Shark's Cove!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at this home. The house was everything we were expecting and so much more. It was very clean and the views were better than I had hoped for! The kitchen was well stocked, and the beds and pillows were so, so comfortable! The location was great for our family. A nice walk on the path to several beautiful beaches, grocery store, and really good food trucks! It was a bit of a drive to go to Honolulu/Waikiki area, but always nice to leave the busyness and return to this quiet getaway! I spent hours and hours looking through properties and debating where to stay and am so glad I decided on this one!!! I could go on and on! Just Perfect! Mahalo

House was great. Location was amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here. The lanai on top of the house was perfect for relaxing and watching the sunset over the ocean. The house was clean and welcoming, the bed in the master room was super comfortable, and Nick was great to work with and answered any question I had very quickly. We had four adults and two small kids in our party and there was plenty of room. We would definitely recommend this house if you are staying on the North Shore!

BEST PLACE TO STAY IN THE ISLANDS

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful property for a month!! The upper balcony was the best-we had beautiful sunrises to beautiful sunsets. It is the best place for sunsets. We loved the trail for walking and jogging and the very close location to the food truck and Foodland was perfect. This house has everything you could hope for-from a cooler with ice packs, snorkeling gear to the walkable proximity to beaches and area to watch the surf competitions. The waves were high and we loved watching the whales play outside the front of the house. We considered coming to another island next winter and we checked them all out on a cruise we took. In the end, we decided to come back here because of the house, location, and beauty. Don't hesitate to rent this place because you won't be disappointed.
