Garden Cottage forms part of a beautiful detached 200 year old grade II listed farmhouse, situated in the tiny hidden hamlet of Little Habton, Malton, North Yorkshire. Our cottage makes an ideal base to explore from; just 10 minutes from the historic market towns of Malton, Pickering, Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley and a stones throw away from Castle Howard.
Overlooking beautiful gardens, and with views of the North Yorkshire Moors, Garden Cottage has been furnished to a high standard with 2 en suite bedrooms, spacious sitting room with a log burner for those cozy winter nights in, and an elegant shaker kitchen with granite worktops and all the mod cons. There's an enclosed garden with garden furniture for those lovely summer evenings, and alfresco dining... In fact it’s quite a sun trap.
There are numerous walks and cycling trails, which can be found in the surrounding area of the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and close by are several renowned country pubs, including The Black Swan at Olstead and The Star, Harome, both of which have Michelin Stars. There is also an abundance of excellent traditional pubs in the area where visitors can sample real ales and generous Yorkshire hospitality.
Castle Howard is just 5 miles away, a magnificent 18th century historic house (film and TV location for Brideshead & more) with art collections, concerts, and a range of interesting events, woodland and riverside walks, a restaurant and farm shop. The ancient city of York (40 minutes) is easily accessible and here visitors can wander along the cobbled streets, admire the ancient architecture, walk along the city walls and cruise along the River Ouse. Visit the beautiful Minster, the National Railway Museum and the Viking Centre or just enjoy al fresco dining by the riverside and watch the world go by. It is also home to an exciting racecourse at the Knavesmire. Visit abbey ruins at Kirkham Priory and Rievaulx, and National Trust houses at Beningbrough and Nunnington Hall or explore the quaint market towns of Malton, Easingwold, Pickering and Helmsley. The North Yorkshire Moors including the Steam Railway, The Dales and the traditional coastal towns of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey are all within an hour’s drive. There’s also good public transport on hand.
