About Deb Grant

The 'small city, big town' aspect of Portland is what drew us to Portland 25 years ago. I'm a Montana girl who loves the vibrancy of an urban atmosphere, and the culture of both countryside and town. My husband Chuck and I have partnered on many projects through the years. He currently lives on site, and I live a mile away. We enjoy working together and have put a lot of love into the Portland Belmont House. We now enjoy sharing it with others.

Why Deb Grant chose Portland

We bought this property because of its location, bones and vibes! 128 years of stories to tell. A diamond in the rough with unique character and hidden elegance made it a place worth putting our heart and soul into renovating. The rustic concrete counter tops and restored original cabinet (found on the back porch) balance out the vibrant splashes of color and high end appliances of the kitchen. Solar panels, stagger studded walls, and ample insulation look to the future while the 8' wood pocket doors, original fir floors, and intricately carved wood work reveal the past. All new electric and plumbing, and sound absorption channels between floors, help remove the unnecessary aggravations of the past to better enjoy the beauty of the space.

Portland Belmont House provides a quiet, comfortable home stay within a vibrant, fascinating part of Portland. We are 3 blocks from the famous Sunflower Intersection at SE 33rd and Yamhill, a uniquely Portland part of Portland. The house charms people. The great yard, patio, barbecue, (and fire pit too!) make a person feel out in the countryside, yet, only a block and a half away are the shops, world class, affordable restaurants, gourmet grocery stores, food carts galore. Public transportation is a stone's throw away. Drive down the street and you are in downtown Portland in 4 minutes. Everything you need right out your door.

  • The bathroom has the original claw foot tub. It has not been refinished but is clean and works well. It is a simple bathroom with a great view. Good light, and a good fan.

  • Both bedrooms have new queen mattresses. We get many compliments on our mattresses! Main bedroom is in the back of the house mostly away from street noise. The smaller bedroom is in the middle and gets some street noise when the window is open.

Important to know that the living room and balcony of the upper level of the house are exposed to the sounds of the street when the windows are open. Great apartment and location!

We were in town for a comedy festival with 1 couple and 3 singles. Deb was super accommodating and set up an air mattress and even installed a Murphy bed for our visit! The apartment has a nice sized kitchen we made breakfast in before heading out for most of the day. The deck was also a favorite spot of ours to relax in the afternoon before heading to shows. The apartment is walking distance or a short Lyft to restaurants (My Thai and Grand Cental Bakery are very tasty), coffee, breweries, and grocery stores. Such a cute neighborhood. We will definitely stay here again!

Perfect place for a getaway

My wife and I came to Portland for our honeymoon. The Belmont house was perfect. We spent a few days wandering around the city. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within a 5 block radius. We also spent a few days taking it easy and lounging around. It was perfect for this as well. Overall, a great location and great stay. It was very hard for us to pack up and leave. We definitely plan on staying here for our next visit.

Great location!

We had a nice stay here with room for our family of four. It was great to have a central home base wtih enough room to spread out. We enjoyed the charm and character of this older Victorian. We would stay here again!

Fun and funky!

We had a lovely 2 nights here. I was a bit leary at first by the graffiti next door, but everything was great.

This is a perfect location to walk the neighborhood for food and adult drinks. We felt safe in the neighborhood and everyone was friendly.

The apartment was comfortable for 2 people. Would be tight with 2 couples.

Loved the outside deck.

Owner's Response: Hi Nancy, Thank you for the review! I'm also glad the neighbor's graffiti didn't scare you away. Our neighbor leaves for Hawaii every winter, and while he is away his place becomes a favorite stop for Portland graffiti artists! The graffiti should disappear as soon as the neighbor returns. I want to make sure future guests know the apartment is 950 sq.feet with two bedrooms. The kitchen and living room are separated by a long hall, unlike on the main floor where kitchen and dining room intermingle near the fireplace. Still, the upper unit has worked well for many groups. It's probably important to note that there are guests in the unit below, so upper is better suited to groups who aren't planning on late night tap dancing, or having enlightened discussions until 3:00AM! We lived in the apartment as a family of four for a year and it worked surprisingly well.

Great location!

We at a family reunion and my brother and myself and our children and spouses it was a great time we played games watched TV and grilled out in the backyard. We had so much fun will definitely be back next time we are in Portland. We felt very welcomed by our house and had everything we needed right there

Charming, centrally-located homebase

We loved our stay at Deb's charming Victorian flat! Our family of five was extremely comfortable and found our hosts to be super friendly and helpful, supplying additional items such as a fan and white noise machine (we didn't find the street noise to be loud at all; we just sleep well with a little background noise). My 8 yr old son loved sleeping in the nook off of the living room, which Deb outfitted with an air mattress and curtains. The beds in the main rooms were ultra comfortable, dressed in hotel-quality linens. The kitchen is a small apartment-style set-up, which worked just fine for some light cooking. The bathroom was charming with a claw-footed tub. The location is perfect for heading out in the car (parking was always available) or exploring on foot, with lots of great restaurants just up the block. Our kids loved playing at the playground at Laurelhurst Park, which was a quick walk away. During our stay, it snowed twice -- the apartment was close to some sledding fun and was a cozy, warm place to return to. It's true that the stairs leading to the apt are rather steep, which might not work for the very young or old, but it didn't pose a problem for us. We loved our stay.
