About Angharad Dalton
I am 100% Welsh and super proud of it. My family was originally from North Wales, but 20 years ago my mother moved to Fishguard and introduced us all to the special charm of this quaint coastal village and the Pembrokeshire way of life. We all fell in love with the natural beauty and energy of this incredible peninsula. My sister and her husband have also owned a property in Fishguard for many years, so we all have wonderful treasured memories of happy times spent with family and friends, offspring and dogs on the beaches of this beautiful part of the world. For us, there is nowhere in the UK better than Fishguard and it will always be our choice for fun filled local holidays!
Angharad Dalton purchased this Barn in 2002
Why Angharad Dalton chose Scleddau
My family had been living in the area for almost a decade before discovering Swallow Barn, a derelict but beautiful stone barn with outbuildings, set back from the road amongst green pastures, situated in an elevated position enjoying distant sea views, about a mile to the south-west of the popular fishing town of Fishguard. Plans were created to preserve and restore every possible original feature, to create a stylish and spacious home that maintains its original character, whilst offering comfort and all the features of modern living. With vaulted ceilings, exposed A frame wooden beams and giant cathedral windows, the interior of the barn is majestic and spacious, with the original walls of Welsh quarried stone giving the whole house a warmth and grounded feel. A huge feature stone and brick fireplace with a wood burner in the main living area, plus underfloor heating, keep the place snug and cosy even on the coldest winter night. Skylights and lime washed timber flooring upstairs, create light and airy bedrooms spaces with private views across the garden and fields to the sea beyond. There are character quirks of architecture and design everywhere; an artisan spiral staircase to the mezzanine, a hand made cast iron balcony in the kitchen featuring swallows in the design; a claw foot roll top bath, a pretty cushioned built in day bed, an outdoor terrace of local river pebbles, rustic Welsh slate kitchen bench tops. French windows open out from all reception rooms onto the garden and outside wooden deck which is perfect for entertaining, a BBQ or sipping sunset cocktails. Swallow Barn and Cottage have been a much loved family home for many years and now we feel honoured to share it with you! May 2016 was the first time the property was offered for holiday letting, and we undertook a full refurbishment so all visitors to this beautiful property are offered accomodation and facilities of a high standard.
What makes this Barn unique
Swallow Barn and Cottage have seen so many good times as a lived in family home, with joyous celebrations and contented every day living creating a wonderful happy energy that can immediately be felt when you walk in through the door. It is a place where everyone can feel at home, with plenty of space, inside and out, so you can be part of the crowd or find a little nook on your own for a bit of peace and quiet. The property is equipped to cater for big parties of friends or family with long refectory style tables for lazy lunches and late night dinners, comfy sofas to mooch in, enough space for a game of outdoor cricket and an outside storage building for bikes, kayaks, surfboards and other sporty paraphernalia! There is a cottage attached to the main residence which can be used as part of the main house (via a lockable door) or as separate accommodation with its own front and rear entrances, separate garden and parking area.

West Wales Delight
Lovely spacious converted barn in the country about a mile from Fishguard. Had everything our demanding family wanted,
Thank you so much for posting a positive review on Swallow Barn. We are so delighted that the demands of everyone were met (!) and that you had a fabulous holiday exploring the local area. Please come back soon! Gratitude and best wishes, Angharad and Richenda.
Wow! Fabulous, spacious place with beautiful views
We had a lovely Easter week at Swallow barn, the place was fully equipped for all our needs, with some wonderful furnishings & ornaments, the space inside and out was great for all the family from teenagers to octogenarians! The views were beautiful especially from the main bedrooms balcony window. We found the local shops had everything we needed and plenty of places to go out for a meal. We did have a problem with the heating on the first night but the house keeper was tremendous and the owners kept in touch, and managed to get it quickly resolved the next morning. We had a long 4 hour journey to get there but it was worth every minute.
A beautiful homely property, the photos are good but in person it's more than impressive!
Swollow Barn is vast yet cosy, beautifully designed and decorated, is grand but homely and has everything you could need while away from home. It snowed during our stay but with the huge log burner and comfortable lounge it was a pleasure to be snowed in at Swollow Barn and we will definitely be back for some more family time in this perfect environment.
Swallow Barn was amazing - spacious with panoramic views of surrounding countryside enjoyed by all
The barn is in a wonderful position and is fully equipped with everything you need to relax and enjoy your stay. Three generations enjoyed the facilities and there was plenty of room for everyone to pursue their chosen leisure activity. Would definitely go again.
So happy you had a wonderful family holiday at Swallow Barn and that it was the perfect space for all of you to relax and enjoy yourselves. Please come back and visit again!
We have just returned from a weekend at swallow barn. We are 3 generations of our family 6 adults two children (10 and 8) and a toddler 18 months. What can I say, as each member of the family arrived the overwhelming comment was WOW.
We have stopped in many cottages over the years and this one is defiantly the best.Cannot fault the cottage/barn. We spent a lovely weekend (the only spoil was the weather).
Many thanks for a perfect weekend at Swallow Barn.
Fantastic cottage, huge amounts of space, great location.
Thank you for allowing us to stay at the wonderful Swallow Barn, what a beautiful property you have!!
We had more than enough space to accommodate 8 adults, 3 children and 4 dogs for our annual family get together.
The property had great areas of space to allow us to spend time together or equally be apart.
The kitchen was well equipped and had everything you could possibly need.
We enjoyed evenings by the stunning fire playing games and spent days exploring the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast.
We can only speak highly of this amazing property and would definitely recommend. 😊
Thank you so much Gail for your very lovely review. It is much appreciated my Richenda and myself. For us to know that our guests have had a wonderful happy time at Swallow Barn is a fabulous feeling and we love hearing positive feedback about our special place in the heart of beautiful Pembrokeshire. Please come back and visit us again! With gratitude from both of us.
The property is located off the A40 from Haverfordwest, set back from the road down a private driveway. It is in an elevated position with surrounding rural and distant sea views, about a mile to the south-west of the popular coastal fishing village of Fishguard, renown for its picturesque Lower Town Harbour, stunning local sandy coves and beaches and famous cliff path walks. The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path runs from the village and offers visitors 188 miles of National Park walking and some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain, with seals, whales and dolphins all making an appearance during the year. The surrounding coastline gives endless options for a day out; pebbly coves and sandy beaches stretching for miles in both directions. Newport beach (10 minutes), famous surfing spots Whitesands (20 mins) and Newgale (30 mins), and coasteering in the sea caves at Aberreidy (25 mins). Travel: Car would be ideal, however, there is an excellent local bus service to all the main beaches, nearby towns and tourist attractions which leaves from the centre of Fishguard. Cycling is popular because the cycle path runs past the end of the driveway, connecting cyclists to the coast path, and of course there is always leg power! The train station (with services direct to London via Cardiff) and the ferry port (which offers daily crossings to Rosslare in Ireland) are both located in Goodwick, approximately 1 mile from the property. Cardiff airport is just over 100 miles by road. Distances: Access is very good, with excellent rail and road links to Fishguard. Access from London and the Midlands by train is easy on the direct route. By car, the M4 and A40 dual carriageway ends only 45 minutes from Fishguard itself and the Severn Bridge is around 2 to 2.5 hours away. Fishguard, Goodwick and the quaint fishing harbour at Lower town are all within easy walking distance (1 mile to village centre). Further Details: Pembrokshire has rightly been chosen by National Geographic Traveller as the second best coastal destination in the world. With mile upon glorious mile of walks on beaches, along clifftops and through woodland, Pembrokeshire is a 'must see' destination, recently selected as film locations for 'Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows' and 'Snow White and the Huntsmen'. The area is steeped in history; the landscape peppered with prehistoric tombs, medieval castles and Celtic religious shrines. You are never far from the sea in Pembrokeshire, starting with your panoramic view of the Irish Sea from the sun deck or master bedroom and balcony at Swallow Barn. As a popular family holiday destination, Fishguard and neighbouring villages are teaming with friendly pubs serving local mackerel, lobster, mussels and dressed crab. Eat the freshest fish and chips on the beach or try out locally crafted beer with a platter of artisan cheeses. There are plenty of takeaways and cafes for a coffee and traditional sweet Welsh treats, an excellent gourmet deli, and some top notch restaurants for a special night out. To work up an appetite try some adventure sports with horse riding, mountain biking, paint balling, rock climbing, go karting, Zorbing, white water rafting and quad biking, even the ancient sport of falconry is on offer nearby! Regular boat trips to the numerous offshore islands and bird sanctuaries are available. This unspoilt and carefully preserved part of the country has some of the finest examples of unusual flora and fauna to thrill any nature enthusiast. Boat charter is available as is both sea and freshwater fishing. Water sports are a must, with Newport a Mecca for sailing, surfing and wind surfing whilst Whitesands and Newgale, on the way to St Davids, are world famous for excellent surfing. Resorts such as Tenby, St Davids and Cardigan are lovely for a day out and have lots of activities for children and the magnificent ruins of Pembroke Castle (the birthplace of the Tudors) is only 45 minutes away. If you are an artist, a photographer or a writer, the incredible natural beauty of this region is perfect for peace and quiet and creative inspiration. The best kind of holiday is one filled with plenty of rest and relaxation, so pack a picnic basket with local produce, a good book and a rug and find a spot where you can chill out for the day. On a practical level, Haverfordwest (10 minutes drive) offers a large shopping centre with Tesco, Marks and Spencer and other large superstores. However, Fishguard itself has excellent food shopping, with a Saturday Farmer’s Market that showcases the best local produce.
