About Mike & Christine Newton
Chrissie and I live near Ashbourne in Derbyshire, the so called "Gateway to the Peaks" but we have always loved travelling to the Cotswolds for long weekend breaks and holidays. We felt the time was right for us to purchase our own country bolthole in the area and be able to explore even more of this beautiful part of the country. This picture was taken of us having fun at the nearby "Daylesford" Cookery School
Mike & Christine Newton purchased this Cottage in 2016
Why Mike & Christine Newton chose Swell
From the moment we first walked into Caffreys Cottage, we immediately felt at home and the feeling of space generated by the open plan ground floor was inherent from that moment. The Cottage has the benefit of all modern facilities but also has the character features that we were looking for.
What makes this Cottage unique
We believe that the Cottage is a real home from home, is bright and airy in the summer but also cosy and snug in the colder months. Furnished beautifully, comfort has not been compromised and the location is perfect to take full advantage of all that the Cotswolds has to offer.

Stuning location and just beautiful!
I come back to The Cotswolds every year after moving permanently to Florida in 2000. Every year is perfect and I try a different month each time to enjoy the change of seasons. This home was again just perfect. The quality of the home was amazing, the ease and great communications from owners was excellent and my brother loved the Water Tower retreat! Lol. We found it spacious, easy to use, such high quality. We adored Stow on The Wold and Bourton on The Water amongst many other villages. People are so friendly. As it was in May the abundance of Bluebell woods, and pretty white blossom on the May trees was just perfect. Very happy and was very spacious so we were not on top of each other.
The owners contacted us on a few occasions before the trip and were very lovely and helpful. The property was beautiful and in a lovely location. Was ideal for our family trip away to celebrate 2 very special 60th birthdays
Great accommodation in a lovely part of the world, perfect!
Lower Swell Rental
House had all the amenities and was in a great location. The two outside patio areas were enjoyable for breakfast and evening meals. The tower needed a bit more attention for cleaning but the house was fine. Overall, the house was welcoming and the cake was delicious!
We are pleased you enjoyed the amenities and the location of the property.
Your comments regarding the tower are however noted. We take great pride in the cleanliness and the high level of facility of the property and we have passed on your comments to the team to ensure our consistently high standards are maintained for future guests. We look forward to welcoming you back in the not too distant future.
Perfect weekend getaway
The family spent a very relaxing long weekend here, it really was a home from home. Loved waking up to a distant cockerel and peace & quiet. We explored the beautiful local villages and had a great meal in the village pub. Would definitely come back!
The picturesque hamlet of Lower Swell lies amongst some of England's most beautiful natural countryside where in amongst the hedgerows and wild flowers you can see ancient moss covered Milestones. Just a short distance from Stow-on--the- Wold, an old Market Town at the highest point of the Cotswolds, the Village Green is home to a stunning War Memorial and nearby the River Dickler flows past cottages of mellow Cotswold stone. The Village is both quintessentially English and tranquil, with the church of St Mary dating back to Norman times. It features beautiful stained glass, which on a sunny day reflects through to the wonderful stone floors. But what better way to spend the day than taking one of the many walks (including the "Heart of England Way" ) and finishing off back in the traditional Cotswold pub the Golden Ball Inn !
At nearly 800ft. Stow is the highest of the Cotswold Towns. Sitting on the Roman Fosse Way and at the point where a number of roads meet, has meant it has always been an important trading centre. It has a long history and the Market Square is large and impressive, which testifies to the Town's former importance. The Square is surrounded by town houses, independent shops, antique centres along with cosy cafes, Inns and restaurants. Some of the largest sheep fairs took place in the town but today the only market to take place is the monthly Farmers Market which still remains very popular
