Great place to relax and unwind. Not a typical rental house.

About Derval Ingleton
We are are Dave and Derval, Derval grew up on the Island, Dave is English and loves the place. We based ourselves here for a number of years and it was lovely. We love exploring the area either walking or on our bikes, getting off the busier roads and into the really amazing sights that Kerry has to offer. Knightstown is such a lovely village. We think of renting our house as sharing it with others, any proceeds we have used to maintain and update the house.
Derval Ingleton purchased this House in 2004
Why Derval Ingleton chose County Kerry
We think that the house is light and airy but cosy with large, quality beds, cotton sheets, hypo allergenic bedding, fluffy towels and a well equipped kitchen including sharp knives and good pots/pans. These are things we look for when we have rented houses elsewhere ourselves. Children are welcome and can provide a high chair and cot on request. The house does not have a stair gate and there are open shelves in the sitting room. There is a great work space for anyone who needs to do a few hours paperwork then close the door and forget about it. Broadband service is robust, a good speed for rural Ireland and does not have a limit. WIFI is free.

Lovely, clean, comfortable condo
We enjoyed our week in Derval’s home which was just as advertised. Everything worked! We loved the island for its jaw dropping beauty and friendly locals. We tried all the walks that Derval suggested. Pictures can not capture the beauty. We missed the Puffins as they migrate in late August. You need a car but plenty of places to walk once you get there.
A very comfortable and quality home
My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights in early May 2018 while attending a wedding at the Royal Hotel. The house is at the end of a cul de sac, a quiet location, is well equipped and offers an outside garden area and table. The description of this house on this site is very accurate - though perhaps, understated!
We were delighted to find the beds very comfortable with all 3 bathrooms nicely updated and very serviceable (ah, the bath tub 😊).
The large bedroom is roomy; the second bedroom is an en suite which is a also a good size. We found the house to be very clean - we felt quite ‘at home’’! The owner, Derval, was especially easy to contact and helped us ‘above and beyond’ with answering questions and offering directions for our drive from Cork to Valentia. We were met by Rena, the owner’s agent, who also was so helpful, fun and friendly. The town of Knightstown, its harbor/ferry and the hotel are merely a few minutes walk- so, convenient. We highly recommend this house for all of the above reasons but also for its proximity to hiking or driving in this area of Kerry. Our summary is that this house is a great find on a gorgeous, relaxing island which is quiet but accessible to Cahersiveen and Portmagee for shopping/adventure. We were extremely satisfied and loved our stay here. I have booked homes through VRBO for many years; this home is one of the best! Jane
Wonderful, magical place
We had 6 wonderful days on Valentia Island. Fabulous setting, great house.
The house was lovely. Bright, clean and spacious Everything we needed was there. Location fabulous
We really enjoyed our week in Derval's house on Valentia island. The house was really comfortable and the decor and furnishings were lovely. Gene and Julie were more than helpful and helped us settle very quickly.
The location of the house is excellent with no more than a few minutes walk to the pier, shop, restaurants and pub. There is so many lovely walks, hikes and drives on Valentia itself, nearby Portmagee and the Skellig ring. Fabulous trip over to Skellig Michael also. Highly recommended and we hope to be back.
Our stay was amazing! Communication with Derval prior to our arrival was fantastic. She provided us with a lot of info for the area as well as info on camps specifically for our boys. Her parents, Gene and Julie who were greeting us, were very accomodating as our arrival was delayed. They were very friendly and so hospitable. The home itself was very well stocked and had plenty of room for our family of four. It really felt like home to us. The location was perfect with shops, town center, playground, etc all within walking distance. It was also an easy drive to some great hikes, Port Magee for trips to the Skellig Islands, Kerry Cliffs, Ring of Kerry, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Knightstown and our stay at Derval's home! We would highly recommend it and would love to make it back ourselves one day!
Vacation at its best!
I want to make it short:
It was that kind of holiday you always remember. The location was perfect. Very good for getting around the Ring of Kerry and right in the middle between coffee dock (breakfast) and Boston`s (good night pint). ;-) 14 days were not enough to cover our list with activities. So we have to come back...
There is lots I can mention about the house - it was very clean and equipped with things we want find at our home (especially some nice stuff in the kitchen).
Overall I want to highlight the hospitality of Derval, Gene and Julie. Folks - this was great and I guess we have got some idea about the irish soul.
