About Rachel Chapel
The current family started farming at Cnewr in 1856 when the Estate was rented to the McTurk family. The head of the family farmed in Scotland and seems to rarely have visited Cnewr, but two of his sons introduced Cheviot and Scottish Black-faced sheep to the area. The sheep walked from Crewe, which was then the nearest rail terminus and the leather shoes worn by the rams were kept at Cnewr until recently. The Black-faced sheep were not popular with the local butchers but the Cheviot sheep have had a marked influence upon the area. The younger McTurk brother returned to Scotland, but the elder stayed on and the present owners are his descendants.

Living the rural dream
An amazing farmhouse setting ideal for a large group. lts like living years ago in an historic house with all the modern amenities with plush no expense spared furnishings. All spotlessly clean a credit to the housekeepers . A wonderful rural setting just waiting to be explored
The fabulous Cnewr Farmhouse.
A magical weekend. Cnewr is a wonderful house in a truly magical setting. Incredibly comfortable , spacious and toasty warm . Furnished to a very high standard , with incredible views and lots of lovely walks nearby.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We were delighted that Cnewr worked for your group so well and you enjoyed your stay there. As you say, there is lots of space which we keep well heated so it's always warm inside whatever the weather outside! Glad that you managed to enjoy some of the doorstep walking - and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
Perfect, spacious, quiet
We were lucky enough to spend a couple of nights at Cnewr, with 10 other friends. The Farmhouse was clean and comfortable with linen to die for. The house is very spacious, and at times you are not aware of anyone being in the house with you at all. If you love walking, fresh air and stunning countryside, Cnewr is a must.
We were almost snowed in, sadly had to go home.
So pleased you enjoyed your stay at Cnewr - thank you for your kind review. We agree; it is such a great house for groups of friends as there's so much space - and it's perfectly situated for walks from the doorstep. We're glad you managed to get home safely despite the snow and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
CHRISTMAS AT CNEWR
Firstly, the communications with Rachel were second to none. I would receive a reply within an hour or so and she did all she could to honour my requests. The farmhouse was exactly as pictured. Lots of space for the 15 of us. The place has been recently renovated to a very high standard - beds and sheets VERY comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and wood for the woodburners plentiful. You will not be cold during your stay. Phone signal none existent but that didn't bother us. The wi-fi was limited at the time we visited but I believe may now have improved? Brecon (10 min drive) has everything you need - supermarkets, cafes, independents shops. We had to move one of the kitchen tables into the dining room for us all to eat together as the dinning table could seat about 10 people. Getting us all out for 9.30am was challenging but it is a big house to turn around for the next guests so understandable. I would not hesitate in recommending Cnewr Farmhouse for a gathering of family or friends. We even had snow!
Lovely house with lots of space - and hot water!
Great stay - so much to do on the doorstep. Great furnishings and fittings - and lovely bed linen - house with lovely character - and a kitchen I would like at home!
Cnewr farmhouse is an amazing place for a large group of mixed ages.
Our party was a family and friends get together celebrating a 60th and a 30th Birthday with 1 child and 2 babies. This farmhouse was extremely comfortable both for the number of reception areas to use with a sitting room and dining room large enough for all of us and for the large bedrooms with luxury bedding and pillows. The kitchen was great for communal cooking, fitting us all around the table with plenty of room for the cooks! The kitchen was extremely well equipped with plenty of crockery and cutlery for several meals at once and everything we needed to cook for all of us. The number of bathrooms was excellent and the laundry room amazing as my family came travelling from Canada, Argentina, Spain and France! We loved the location, the local walking and biking. The big hallway with enough space for loads of muddy boots and walking gear was great too We went to the Wales bike park which was amazing, and it was easy to get to the Gower Peninsula for the beach day! The farm kept the little ones amused who loved the cows, sheep and horses. The reservoir sunset was lovely.
We all thoroughly loved our time at Cnewr and would thoroughly recommend it!!
Beautiful rural location with door step access to walking, trout fishing and mountain biking.
