About Ken Maddux
Having been born less than an hour from here in the little town of Cuyuna, this area of north central Minnesota has always seemed like home to me. After retiring from St. Cloud State University, I felt this would be the area I would retire to. While we currently live in the Twin Cities, with its rich and vast art and cultural venues, Lake Shamineau continues to provide that refuge of quiet and natural richness that is important to us. My son once called me, 'The Keeper of the Lake'. I have enjoyed its special gifts in all seasons, and it has often been the inspiration for numerous haiku and pottery designs. As a professional potter, I have for the past 6 years conducted Memorial Day and Labor Day sales of my wares from Pine Point. Usually over the 6 hours of each of these sales, we will enjoy the company of 175-200 neighbors and friends, many of whom have visited during each of the 14 sales to date. The sales have become part of the weekend activities for many lake residents and their guests. They arrive by boat, kayak, bicycle, car, on foot, and by ATV. At times the lakefront has looked like a marina. It's gratifying to see my work appreciated in this way over such a period of time. As wonderful as it is to enjoy our place with family and friends, Diane and I are both avid readers, and sometimes there's nothing more satisfying than just curling up with a book near the fireplace in the winter, or in the front porch or out on the dock in the summer sun, losing ourselves in that quiet, invisible world.

Why Ken Maddux chose Motley
I have enjoyed Lake Shamineau for nearly 45 years, well before I had the means to own property on the lake. During those early years I got to experience the many gifts the lake had to offer. Through the efforts of an active lake association, we have actually seen the quality of the lake improve. Over 2,400 acres, the lake is roughly four miles long and a mile wide. It ranks among the top 5% of Minnesota's clearest and cleanest bodies of water. As a result, on any summer weekend residents and guests will be seen enjoying fishing, swimming, kayaking, sailing, tubing, water skiing, playing water volleyball, or parked on the sand bar sipping their favorite beverage, while watching the youngsters splashing and giggling in the water. As a serious angler, I have personally released 15 walleyes over 10 lb. (a trophy in anyone's book) back into the lake. While my largest musky is 48' I have heard of them caught and released as large as 53'. One year recently, Babe Winklemann, professional fisherman and TV personality, actually filmed part of a musky episode of his fishing show just off the dock about 50 yards or so. The lake continues to produce larger than average-sized crappies in large numbers. My largest to date is 16-1/2', weighing over 2 lbs. Even after leaving the lake for a brief time, I did my due diligence and still returned to Shamineau. There was just nowhere that could compare for me. 2018 will be our second renting season. I was surprised to see the 2017 summer season nearly totally booked, shortly after posting last winter. I must say, our guests have treated our cabin as if it were their own. It was nearly always left as clean as we had prepared it for them. As a result I will be able to continue this year with no additional housekeeping charge. I am happy to say that we received six 5-star ratings with written descriptions, which I would encourage you to view.
What makes this Cabin unique
Pine Point, as we've come to call it, sits at water's edge on 270' of lake shore on this beautiful lake. While having wonderful neighbors on both sides, a small wooded area separates the properties and offers a sense of privacy. Whether stepping into the water to the north to fly fish for bass and panfish, or to wade into the beach area to the southeast for a quick dip, Pine Point offers an immediacy and intimacy with nature rarely experienced. The 2017 season proved a better than average fishing year. I got several walleyes from 3 1/2-5+ pounds, and one guest caught a 50" musky. Crappies seemed plentiful throughout the summer, while slowing a bit in late July and August, during the warmer part of the season. Bass and northern were plentiful throughout the summer.

Beautiful and Relaxing Stay
I stayed here for a long weekend getaway. It was perfect and everything I was looking for. The space is beautifully re-done and very clean. Being on the point was great because it meant being surrounded by more water. The 3 season porch was my favorite. Enjoy the weather and the view with no bugs!
It was awesome!
We just stayed at the cabin Aug 12-18th. We had a fabulous time. Kids swam everyday along with tubing. Sun rises in the porch were amazing enjoying our coffee! Perfect place for the 6 of us to relax and enjoy!
We had a great stay with our two young kids, Ken’s place has everything we could need and he was very responsive. Loved playing on the beach and watching the sonnies off the dock!
Perfect Lake Cabin
My family and I had a wonderful 3 days at this cabin. It is beautiful inside, the beds and futon are comfortable and we found everything we needed to make meals. My niece enjoyed the little sandy beach. My father liked to sit on the screened in porch and listen to his country music and play his guitar and the dining area table is the perfect size for 4 people to play cards.
We were able to rent a pontoon boat at Shamineau Acres Resort for two days and it was relaxing and refreshing to be out on the water. We swam in the lake and explored the little island.
Ken greeted us as we arrived. He left a nice welcome basket for us. One of the items, Minnesota Sweet Corn, was delicious.
Thank you Ken for being a great host. Your cabin is a gem!
Great family cabin!
We stayed at Ken's cabin for a long weekend in July and had an incredible time. It was the perfect size for our family with 2 older kids and a baby (the larger bedroom has room for a pack and play). The kitchen is very well equipped with supplies and we were able to make all of our meals. As others have said, there is great fishing off the dock. We caught tons of pan fish and a few bass. There is a nice sandy beach area which is partly shaded all day. The older kids wished there would have been more room to swim (it got weedy quick), but the swimming area would be perfect for toddlers. We brought along some rafts so they spent most of their time floating on those. Ken was a great host and left a basket of goodies upon our arrival. Highly recommend!
Most relaxing place on the entire lake Shamineau.
Being from Missouri, the show me state, having traveled 700 miles to the Lincoln Lakes area, the private point on Shamineau was exactly what was needed for a restful vacation spot. 50 years have gone by since my old high school friend and I had a chance to catch up on the old school days and see how our families have grown. Memory Lane has been a long one and now we can share more memories with our families obout this wonderful place on Shamineau. The Loons and Blue Herons are my favorite 2 birds and there were plenty of them. Mr. Ken Maddox is a great host and I was happy to correspond with him from time to time about the cabin and fishing.Felt like talking to an old friend.Cabin is well equipped with everything. Thanks Ken for sharing your beautiful cabin. One of the best times of my life. Your friend, Don😎
