About Deirdre Billes
I have had the pleasure of spending summers at this 'cottage' since the mid 80's. It is now a place that my son can enjoy and we are looking forward to sharing it with you.
Deirdre Billes purchased this Cottage in 1987
Why Deirdre Billes chose Wellesley Island
This place has been the favorite vacation home for our international family for decades. Site Manager Howard Dorr is a delight to work with both as a welcoming host and a local fix-it / build it expert.
What makes this Cottage unique
Sublime quiet on a large forested property. Beautiful venue for small wedding. Ideal for Small Executive Planning Sessions, Team Building Retreats. Lots of activities can take place concurrently here, without feeling over crowded.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
A great place to spend a week!
Everything was great. Very spacious and bigger then the photos look. Loved all the various spaces to hang out. Very quiet and peaceful.
Family time and wedding preparations.
Family gathered at this lovely property during the week surrounding my daughter's wedding on the island. There was plenty of space to serve meals, view sunsets, play games and enjoy the pool both for continuous swim and child play, and prepare all the final DIY projects for the wedding. All the bathrooms helped everybody keep moving for the deadlines. The grounds were well kept and lovely. The manager was very friendly and made us feel very welcome and secure. Kitchen is dated and bunk bed uncomfortable but no other complaints.
Really couldn't have been better for our family demographic
We are 7 adults, 2 13 year-olds and a 5 year-old. The house was almost more than we needed but that made it all the more fantastic. The interior gave everyone a chance to read, play, watch TV, play the piano (which worked wonderfully even it it was a little out of tune!), or just sit and read. The kitchen accommodated our needs quite well although the knives could have been sharper and there were no real serving bowls (which , on vacation, is no big deal!). The pool was an extraordinary hit. We had a few glitches and Howard took care of them all quickly and completely. The boat dock allowed us to rent a pontoon boat and kayaks as well as have a friend bring his 40 footer over to take us all out for a ride. The bugs were not a problem although that could have just been luck. Used the campfire twice, the swingset - never got into the river at the swim dock but that was more because the water was still too cold. We were very sorry to hear the stories of previous renters who behaved so badly that you will no longer be renting it - it is a treasure and worth every penny!! Thank you for not closing it this season.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review Dawm. I am glad you enjoyed your stay.
Access to the house & nearby Alexandria Bay was very convenient. The house accommodated extended family of adult children with an easy mix of privacy and time together. Lake of the Isles waterfront is beautiful and even on a holiday weekend was not overly-crowded. The house is maintained and well-managed.
Great place. Nice, secluded but accessable location.
We vacation in the 1000 Islands every year and have stayed in some very nice properties but this one tops them all!
Thank you Warners! We are pleased you enjoyed your stay.
Enjoy the fantastic Winery Tours, go under in crystal clear waters to wreck dive, have a professional fishing guide pick you up at our dock and drift along on the main channel of the river. Take in the Clayton Wooden Boat Museum tour, enjoy a swim in our resistance pool, take in a round of golf on-island, then light an evening fire and see thousands of stars come out to the sounds of loon calls. Year round access. Ice fishing, snowshoeing, all possible from this very comfortable lakeside home in the woods. This location is an ideal setting for an executive planning retreat.
