La Sence is a cosy stone cottage for couples and solo travellers nestling in the peaceful Mayenne countryside. This is the perfect 'get away from it all' retreat. With its large, well equiped kitchen and separate south facing lounge/dining area, there is plenty of space to unwind and relax. The first floor has a bright double aspect bedroom with original chestnut flooring and oak beams, an ensuite shower room and dressing room. The sunny and private courtyard garden has a gravelled and paved area for sun loungers and alfresco dining. On warm summer evenings the terrace is the perfect place to unwind after a hard day sightseeing and to spot the shooting stars. Guests also have access to the five acres of grassland, to sit beneath the many trees with a book, glass of wine and to be disturbed only by an occassional tractor and a variety of birdsong.

About Grace Trickett
We came to France in 2004 to escape our hectic life style in the UK and set about renovating our tired and neglected farmhouse. It has taken a while, but we have completed it and several other projects in the meantime. We enjoy living in rural France and would love to share our little corner with you.

A quality holiday home exceptionally well maintained and furnished...
September 2017 proved to be a mixed pot with regards to the weather but we have no complaints at all about this beautiful holiday home with everything provided including that all important corkscrew... This beautifully renovated, spotlessly clean, immensely comfortable and relaxing cottage couldn't have been more welcoming, Grace and Dean are a lovely friendly couple who were more than helpful, they even provide the immediate essentials in a welcome pack along with tea, coffee, milk, a couple of bottles of beer, a bottle of wine and some mouth watering biscuits... There were baby bunnies on the doorstep every morning and little owls nesting opposite that came out every evening, the setting couldn't have been move peaceful, and all set in this very beautiful part of the Mayenne countryside, very close to forest walks, lakeside leisure amenities, picturesque villages and stunning chateaux's, only 20 minute drive from the medieval city of Domfront and an hour and half from the ferry at Caen... Very highly recommended x
Thank you so much for your lovely comments regarding the cottage and rural Mayenne. We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and had a good time exploring the area. Hope that your new holiday home allows you to have some more great times in France. Very best wishes for the future.
A beautiful, warm hearted, spacious, private retreat.
I'm so glad we stayed at La Sence. We really couldn't have stayed at a better place. A beautiful, comfortable, spacious and cosy house in incredibly serene countryside and with beautiful gardens. Despite jeopardizing my chances of staying there again by raving about it I do highly recommend staying here. And do sit out in the evening with a drink to watch the barn owl and rabbits, deer and all the other wonderful birds etc while the sun sets. Thank you to Dean and Grace for your generous help when we needed it and for providing such a generous space to be.
Thank you for your lovely review of La Sence cottage. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the cottage, the surrounding countryside and the wildlife. It was great to have a chat and introduce you to the regional tipples. Hope you took away some great memories of your stay with us. Look forward to seeing you again. Grace, Dean & Oska
Beautiful house; great place to stay to relax, unwind and get away from it all. Peaceful, tranquil, a super find. Grace and Dean are great hosts; there if you need anything but not intrusive. Would definitely recommend.
A very welcoming, spacious and clean property.
We had a lovely week, in mostly superb weather, and were able to see the area at its best, appreciate the cottage with its patio, garden and surroundings and relax in a well furnished and comfortable property.
Grace and Dean were welcoming and helpful but not at all intrusive. Oscar, the other family member, also came to meet and greet.
Thank you for the sheltered parking for our old Citroen - she appreciated it on the first wet day!
Quiet and relaxing
Lovely place, much more spaceous than first appears, great library and very clean. Would recommend

La Sence is ideally situated within a rich and diverse region, steeped in history with many English connections. The town of Falaise with it's connection to William the Conqueror is under an hour's drive, whilst Domfront where Richard the Lionheart was christened is 20 minutes away. A 40 minute drive to the west is the medieval town of Fougeres on the Brittany/Mayenne frontier and the site of several scirmishes during the 100 years war. Lassay Les Chateaux with is beautiful chateau on the river is 25 minutes by car. The Velo rail and the leisure park with horse riding, outdoor swimming pool, many watersports are just 20 minutes away. The picturesque village of Bagnoles de l'Orne with its casino, lake, chateau and many restaurants is only 40 minutes by car. Locally there are many well sign posted walking, riding and cycle tracks. For fishermen and women there are some great opportunities to fish 150kms of lakes, rivers and streams close to La Sence. Daily and weekly passes are available from the local shop. Within 1.5 hours drive is the World famous Le Mont St Michel, Cancale with its many shellfish restaurants and the fabulous sandy beaches of the charming walled town of St Malo. To the north, and under 2 hours drive, are the landing beaches of 6 June 1944 with many exhibitions and displays detailing the events of that memorable day and the days which followed. Close to some of the landing beaches is the historic city of Caen with all its diversity of ancient and modern buildings mixed together providing something for every taste. The famous Tapestry at Bayeaux is well worth a visit too and only approx 25 minutes from Caen on the N13.
