About Stephen Davis

In Aug 2014 Steve took early retirement and we decided to move abroad. Having spent much of our childhoods in the country we wanted to start a small farm with a few animals. Having enjoyed several holidays in Brittany we decided it would be a great place to live. We would like to share this with our guests and give them the opportunity to spend time in a truly peaceful and beautiful rural setting.

Stephen Davis purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Stephen Davis chose Carnoët

Brittany is an area of outstanding natural beauty with hardly any industry and very few cars. The most likely cause of a traffic jam is a farmer moving his cows down the road or a tractor. Our small farm is set in a tiny hamlet of a few houses surrounded by stunning scenery. In our area most people speak Bretagne a Celtic language as well as French. Bretagne culture is very Celtic in origin and they have their own bagpipes. The Bretagne people are very warm and friendly and we have fantastic neighbours

What makes this cottage unique

The surrounding countryside is perfect for walking and cycling. It is also a great central base for exploring Brittany. The coast is within easy reach and there a many old towns and historic sites to explore. There are also many local markets in the surrounding towns. We also have sheep, goats and free range chickens on our farm. Our ewes will lamb in late March through to early early June.2018.

Guestbook comments from the manager

It was very tastefully fitted out and had everything we needed. We found the gite to be excellent in every way. The location meant that we could travel to places we wanted to see within 1hr 15min. It is also a very peaceful and relaxing place to be. Both Steve and Sue are great hosts, easy to talk to, helpful and very good company. They made us both feel very welcome, more like friends than paying guests. Their beautiful little Border Collie added to our feeling of welcome as she would seek us out at any opportunity and pour affection upon us. Without a doubt, a great place to be and we thoroughly recommend the gite and Steve and Sue as hosts.

A fabulous place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

When it says Family Friendly farm cottage on the title of the property, it means just that! My children had a superb time feeding all the sheep, goats and chickens on the farm and it was the highlight of their day. Steve and Sue are wonderful hosts and so friendly. Our children loved spending time with them and were encouraged to help out. They loved hunting down the eggs. Even my little 3 year old got stuck in. The cottage is beautiful, modern and very clean with very comfortable beds. We all slept wonderfully. Two large bright rooms upstairs suited us all very comfortably and the downstairs is nice and open plan which is perfect. Freesat on the TV meant that we could enjoy our English programmes when we sat down after the kids were in bed. The supermarket is only a 15 min drive away in Callac and we were able to cook each evening although I am told there are some lovely restaurants nearby too. 5 mins away is the Valley of the Saints which is worth a visit and is free. We would also definitely suggest a visit to Huelgoat and a walk around the lake at Callac. If you are looking for a property which is peaceful and has lovely views then this is the gite for you! I wouldn't hesitate to return. It was one of our favourite holidays that we have ever been on. We have fallen in love with Brittany. Thank you.

Lovely relaxing and quiet place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with elderly parents in order to visit family who live not far away. Steve and Sue were happy to ensure our needs were met within the property and offered use of the wet room in their studio rental if free when we were there (it turned out not to be necessary). Although they live next door, they were available but not interfering during our stay and there is plenty of space so you don't feel you're living on top of them. We had excellent weather for April and it was nice just to sit outside listening to the bees and animals.

What a fabulous place!

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous time we had. My 6 year old adored the new lambs and feeding them plus helping to collect the eggs for breakfast! The Gite was very comfortable and beautifully furnished and Stephen and Sue were brilliant hosts. Will definately be back next May for lambing season!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Sue & Steve for a fantastic family holiday... the girls loved all of the farm animals... particularly collecting the chicken eggs in the mornings! Beautiful gite and beautiful surroundings and some lovely beaches close by. Thank you for sharing your wealth of local knowledge with us..without it we would have never of found the right markets or the right days! The girls are looking forward to another stay next year!

Lovely cottage in peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is newly converted and very well equipped. We have a one year old child and a cot and high chair were provided. The kitchen is also well equipped and there were other useful items such as games and maps. There is ample parking. The location is very peaceful indeed but you are still only a fifteen minute drive from a town with a decent supermarket and other facilities . The cottage is inland but the nearest seaside place is only about one hour away. It's a nice drive too, through the countryside . The farm setting is really nice and our daughter loved the animals. We we also given lots of fresh eggs from the farm as well as some other useful supplies eg milk. The cottage is only about an hour from The port of Roscoff which is handy.

Beautiful, peaceful, rural cottage

  • 5 of 5

The property was lovely; much better than the pictures show, in my opinion. It was very modern and well equipped. It is quite remote, but the roads are good and the nearby towns have everything you need for self catering, which is what we tended to do. The owners are lovely and our children loved getting involved on the farm. We had a very nice holiday. Thank you.
