“CASA SURFSIDE” is directly on the surf of Potrero Bay. In Costa Rica only a few houses in “Colonial Spanish Land Grant Territories” were allowed to be built this close to the ocean. The location makes Casa Surfside the beachfront house you have always dreamed about renting. The grounds are immaculate with many different types of trees and plants.
The house was recently remodeled. Special amenities include a heated pool with therapy jets and two covered patios so you can enjoy the shade all day. One patio has ocean views and the other has a BBQ. The dining room has a large table for 8 and a breakfast bar for 6. Wi-Fi is available anywhere on the property. Additional amenities are: TV, DVD and ipod connection to stereo.
Sharon is your on-site caretaker/administrator. She is there to get you settled in and answer any and all questions. She can recommend all services and tours. Maid service is provided every Tuesday and Friday. More frequent service is available if requested. Chef Miguel is also available upon request. You provide the food and he will take over to prepare, serve and clean up. If you would like groceries stocked for you, we will send you an order form and Casa Surfside will be stocked with your preferred food and beverages before you arrive.
The Casa is perfect for small and large parties. The master bedroom with ocean view has a king size bed. Two other upstairs bedrooms have queen size beds. Two full baths are available upstairs. A fourth bedroom on the first floor has two double beds with a mini- kitchen and its own full bath. All rooms in the house have individual controls to operate ceiling fans and A/C. The upstairs common area has an additional double bed and two pull down beds for extra sleeping. All linens, bath and beach towels are provided. Lounge chairs for the pool and beach are also provided.
Playa Potrero extends for over 4 kms. with three fresh water estuaries. Flamingo Marina is located on the south end of the bay. You have views of many islands and boats coming and going to and from the marina. The water in front of the house is inviting for swimming with no riptides, rocks or undertow. It's perfect for all ages.
Three beachfront restaurants and three markets are within walking distance. Flamingo, Potrero and Braslito are minutes away. They provide banking, shopping, activities and many fine restaurants. Tamarindo and Playa Grande are 30 minutes from Casa Surfside.
Casa Surfside is owned by Mark and Mary Jo Schumacher. They would be happy to help you plan your vacation. Call toll free to Three Rivers Resort in Colorado at 888-761-3474.
We enjoyed our visit to Casa Surfside! It is certainly a very comfortable
Casa on a beautiful Surfside location.
As first-time visitors, there is always some anxiety about "will it be as
described – what did negative aspects were not mentioned" – etc. But Casa
Surfside was just as described and lived up to all our expectations. We are
hard-pressed to find any negative aspects – I didn't find any gold doubloons
in the beach sand, and I couldn't use Mark's kayak, but otherwise we had an
excellent holiday and Jorge and his minions do a good job in maintaining and
providing for a comfortable stay. We hope we will be able to return before
The Adventure Starts Here. This place keeps getting better. We are currently booking for the 3rd time. Everything you want in a vacation house complete with private pool with jacuzzi jets on the ocean. Last time it had a new cabana by the pool. Now they have renovated and added a new bathroom with separate quarters. Vaulted ceiling in living area with an outdoor deck with spectacular sunsets. The staff is like part of our family. Jorge the on site mgr. sent me a e-mail the day before our arrival with complete weather and road report. He told me not to get 4 wheel drive. Saved me $25 a day. Booked a fabulous sunset sailing cruise that saved us $20 per person. Gave us his personal beach inflatables when the house ones needed repair. Truly, an awesome house and experience.
We stayed in March 2015. The location is fantastic and the sunsets are phenomenal. The House was great for our entire family. The pool is a excellent midday hideout from the heat of the afternoon. The house may be a bit dated for some tastes, but the location more than makes it a great get away. The view from the upper level deck is excellent all day long. The beach is so quiet and relaxing compared to resort areas.
Jorge is a outstanding host, he can arrange almost anything you may need or wish to do. He can make arrangements for dinner, fishing, kayaks, take you grocery shopping ,seafood delivers or sightseeing. He made our trip a fantastic get away. We hope to return in the future.
The Beach house restaurant and the Shack were great places to eat, and the Grill makes a great Mojito and Margarita. We went zip lining and followed that up with a short trip to Cocoa Beach for noon lunch for a half day get away.
My husband and I stayed for a week, with a friend joining us for 3 days. The house is exactly as pictured, large beachfront with a fabulous private pool. The beach in front of the house was almost private, never more than 5 or 6 people walking past, usually the beach was empty. Small, constant surf breaking on shore, and a sandy beach for easy swimming and playing in the waves. The pool is clean, and larger than we have had with many condo rentals but all private for us!
The living space is upstairs, three bedrooms/ two baths plus sleeps 3 or 4 more on beds in open areas of the house. Huge, well stocked kitchen with every appliance, lots of dishes, glasses, and gas range. Every room airconditioned with ceiling fans, controls in each room. Comfortable dining and living room area, but the gem is the huge covered porch facing the ocean. Has a hammock, wooden rocking chairs, a second dining table. You could comfortably seat 6+ people relaxing and watching the spectacular sunsets.
The inside of the house is probably 20 years old and could be updated, but everything was clean and functional.
And Jorge, the host/ caretaker of the property- he was fabulous. Met us at the airport and drove us "home" before getting us a rental car delivered to the house. Would definitely recommend this service, driving in costa rica was complicated, and he made it so easy! My husband needed to see a doctor, Jorge drove us to a clinic and later to the hospital in Liberia. He came to registration, translated for us, gave his phone number to the clinic to call if any problems, and called to check on us like we were family visiting. English was spoken by some in the clinics, but having a very fluent translator was ideal. Jorge was unobtrusive, offered his services and checked on us daily, but was not at all pushy. Anything we wanted, like a local restaurant, fresh seafood delivered to house, a German bakery, "Jorge has a friend" who can make it happen. He was delightful.
This house would be a great place for a couple, friends traveling together, or a family reunion. We would definitely return.
Our extended family stayed for a week at Casa Surfside in March 2014. We flew to Liberia & rented a 8-passenger mini-van to cart everyone around. The van allowed freedom to travel anywhere at any time.
The 3BR house has everything we needed and it's location is fantastic. The grounds and pool are very well maintained and groomed. The rental house is the upstairs level of the house. The house is directly on the beach!Playa Portrero is beautiful, low key, mellow, un-crowded. The atmosphere is laid-back and tropical. There is some crime, so please be aware.
The air conditioning & fans work great to keep the house cool. Bedding and 2 bathrooms are adequate. No complaints there. The interior of the house has some minor issues which did not bother me, but some people are picky. Your beer & cocktails will be chillin' in the fridge & the house comes with a large propane BBQ! You come to Casa Surfside for the pool, beach, and location!
We filled up on supplies at the SuperCompro in Huacas (average quality) & at the AutoMercado in Tamrindo (nice supermarket). There are several decent restaurants within a fifteen minute drive. If you want touristy crap, you can always go to Tamarindo for the day!
The ocean is cooling to swim in, since it is quite hot during the afternoons. We experienced 1-2 foot waves, which were fun to play in & safer for the kids. The visibility for snorkeling, however, can be quite poor. We brought 3mil wetsuits which we used when we stayed in the water for extended time. We also made a trip to a public beach at Playa Danta to the north, which was very enjoyable....shade trees to picnic on the beach, better visibility for snorkeling.
We made several day-long trips in our van. Jorge, the caretaker from downstairs, is happy to arrange day trips & provide recommendations. Here are the highlights of our trip:
1) Zip-lines & monkey holding at the Congo Trail Canopy Tour...awesome fun!
2) Sailing, snorkeling, & lunch on the Lazy Lizard catamaran. Groove to some reggae! The great crew poured endless cocktails & even caught a tuna for sushi!
3) Small eco-Zoo on the highway near Belen. Interesting. Can be visited on the way from the airport.
4) Sugar Plantation Tour and guided River-Boat Tour at Hacienda El Viejo and El Viejo Wetlands. Bring the camera! Lots of wildlife...very enjoyable & historic!
5) Visited the sea-side town of Tamarindo. Went shopping for t-shirts, trinkets, & tourist crap. Had lunch. Went to AutoMercado!
Just returned from Casa Surfside in Portrero,C.R. after spending ten days with my wife and two other couples. We couldn't have enjoyed it more. We arrived at Liberia airport and rented a car, and drove about one hour to get to the house. Jorge, who is the new caretaker, met us at the house, and answered our initial questions about where to buy groceries, good restaurants, etc. The house itself had nice bedrooms, a kitchen and living room with a tv, and a great deck looking out to the ocean where we had our coffee in the mornings, and cocktails at night watching the amazing sunsets. The ocean was a short walk thru the backyard to a great beach, that we all enjoyed taking walks on, when we weren't playing in the water. The pool area was perfect for lazy afternoons reading a book, and for evening swims. Mark, the owner, was very helpful with suggestions before we left about who to contact for scuba diving, which was a blast, golf at Hacienda Pinilla, which was in great shape, and where to go to rent kayaks, bikes, or boats for fishing. The local restaurants, such as Perla's and the Shack, had a good variety of food whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner. If you are looking to do a road trip to other beaches, then Playa Grande and Avelanas are great beaches with minimal development, and great waves, while Tamarindo offers a more touristy town with lots of shopping, and a great beach.
Overall we had a great time at Casa Surfside, it met, and exceeded all of our expectations. We will certainly recommend this trip to our friends, and look forward to returning ourselves in the near future.
