Casa Bella San Miguel was recently celebrated by the 'Great Homes' section of the New York Times (see the link to owner's website below). The owner would like to have you enjoy her love of San Miguel by sharing this lovely home when she's away. Why don't you come and see what the good life is all about!!
This elegant, yet comfortable, home is located above the hustle and bustle of San Miguel, but not so far as to preclude a leisurely stroll to the central Jardin in 5 to 7 minutes. Laid out around a verdant patio, the home is designed for entertaining, either formally or informally.
Immediately upon entering, one ascends a flight of stairs to a welcoming front room with three couches before a fireplace, high beamed ceilings, and informal dining for six. Beyond the table is a bank of french doors that provide a pleasant view and, when the doors are open, a musical splashing of the fountain in the patio. Off this central room are found a large formal dining room with seating for 8 and a fireplace, a study with books and TV, a guest bath and a well-equipped kitchen. Margarita, the housekeeper/cook, has a way of turning out Mexican breakfasts with specialties that will have you raving for months after your visit.
Up the well-lit stairway, is a door to the patio, and the first of three bedrooms, containing a queen bed, an interesting 'ojo de buey' (bull's eye) window, a fireplace and bathroom with an antique tub and another fireplace and a street door. Up a few more stairs, one finds the second bedroom, done all in white, and featuring a king bed, a bathroom, a fireplace, and a small sitting room (with Internet access), which opens on to a private balcony with a view to the street and the western horizon. The third bedroom, up a few more stairs, is done in yellow with a green tiled bathroom(with bath tub/shower), and a fireplace, a queen bed with mosquito netting, and a small balcony overlooking the patio below.
Up another flight of stairs leads up to the roof garden terrace with table and chairs, potted plants, and a dyamite 360-degree view. The vista features the central cathedral (here called La Parroquia), a jumble of red tiled roofs, houses and greenery to the east, plus a vast view of the lake, rimmed by the Guanajuato mountains and the sunset to the west. The perfect place for a rendezvous of the guests to enjoy a sundowner and to discuss the doings of the day or make plans for an evening on the town.
All rooms are artfully decorated with colorful and comfortable furnishings, wall hangings, statues and paintings. The house covers some 3800 sq. ft. on 4 levels plus roof garden. In the center of the home is a gorgeous flowering patio with lounges, chairs and a coffee table. There is garage and a small bedroom and bath (with washing machine) at the main entry level.
Margarita comes every weekday (M-F) from 9 AM to 2 PM. She will perform extra chores, such as cooking for you in the evenings, if you desire, for extra pay. Margarita also is in charge of the maintenance of the house, and is on call if you need her at other hours. Cruz, the gardener, comes several times a week to tend to the plants in the patio and roof garden. There is 2 TV with basic cable, as well as a small boom box for radio and CDs, and cable internet.

It is a beautiful, well furnished and located house in a quiet yet central location of San Miguel de Allende. The staff is uniquely qualified to assist every visitor.
The views from the roof top balcony is wonderful, the gardens mature and lovely. The art and decor are appreciated by all who visit and the housekeeper Margarita is exceptional. Many visitors have called the house magical.
My friend and I stayed at Casa Bella for a long weekend at the end of June and it was wonderful. I had been wanting to visit San Miguel de Allende for awhile, and this house provided everything we needed with a perfect location close to Jardin and the town square. The owner helped arrange a driver to take us to and from the airport. I can't say enough about Margarita, the fabulous housekeeper who cooked my friend and I an incredible dinner Friday night and then came back Saturday morning and put together a lovely light breakfast. She was also so helpful in answering questions and suggesting great places for dinner. My recommendation for lunch or dinner: Pegaso!
The house was full of spectacular art--I could have spent all weekend looking at it. The first-level garden was so beautiful, and there was a soothing fountain that gurgled continuously. But my friend and I really loved the roof-top garden, with amazing views of the city and the churches. Best place to have coffee in the morning, and a glass of wine at night.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed Casa Bella--definitely worth the money and a place I would go back to!
This was my first experience with VRBO and it was very positive.
This house is truly a palace.
It is an old colonial with 4+ outdoor garden areas: 3 terraces and a courtyard, all filled with beautiful flowers, artfully placed. Views of the city from the upper terraces are tremendous, and there is nice outdoor furniture furniture, including shade umbrellas to enjoy it. We enjoyed watching the birds (hummingbirds, scarlet fly catchers, etc) from the upper terraces.
The courtyard has a beautiful fountain (that is also visible and audible from the inside, by opening the glass french doors) and is a garden of eden.
Inside is beautiful art, comfy and aesthetically pleasing furniture in an old world Mexican ambiance. Lots of art and books. Plenty of guidebooks and info on San Miguel.
Kitchen, washer, and dryer made it all easy.
Margarita, the property manager/cook, was helpful with everything (shopped for food, cooked some meals, answered questions about San Miguel, and washed clothes), and even corrected our Spanish when we asked.
The location is perfect---about 4 or 5 blocks from the center of town. Walkable, but no traffic noise. There are a few small stores within 2 minutes to pick up freshly made tamales, fresh orange juice, egg, fruit, veggies, etc.
My husband and I, along with two other couples, had the privilege of renting this lovely home during the month of February, 2015. The house is beautifully decorated and pleasing to the eye from all angles. There is a lot of light due to large windows and doors, several leading to beautiful terraces and patios. Most of these have views of San Miguel, the center of which is only a 10 minute walk away! The 3 large master bedrooms, each with a full bath, made the house very well-suited for 3 couples, however, it would be good for families as well. As described, there is one big hill to climb to reach the house from the center, but we all got used to it, and actually enjoyed the exercise. The view and accommodations were so worth it! There are two staff people who work at the house. First is Margarita who is a warm, welcoming hostess who is eager to improve her English, but at the same time, is a very patient teacher of Spanish. She is an incredible cook, and will give you a list of her favorite dishes to prepare. We gave her money for food for some special meals, then enjoyed the delicious aromas, tastes and presentation. Cruz is a gardener extraordinaire. He comes daily for several hours to tend to the dozens of potted flowers and plants that adorn the terraces. He is a gentle soul with a very green thumb. SMA is a lovely town, and staying in this house was the perfect complement to our stay there.
We had high expectations of this home and of San Miguel de Allende and were not disappointed. This home is remarkably tasteful, comfortable, and SO beautiful...we were blown away. It was perfectly suited for our group of five (one couple, one mother and daughter, one sister). The rooms are comfortably separate so privacy is very good and the furnishings, gardens and terraces are sublime. We spent a lot of time on the roof terrace and every moment was unique. Loved it
The cobblestone climb from town to the house is a bit arduous but we loved it and used the extra activity to justify tucking guiltlessly into Margarita's delicious cooking. She will shop and cook for you, if you desire, and the cost was very reasonable.
Margarita took extremely good care of us and everything was perfect.
We are already planning our return trip.
Upon entering Casa Bella it is immediately apparent that this is a private home and not merely a property available for rental purposes. After ascending the stairs from the street and garage level to the first floor the first thing one sees and hears is the gorgeous fountain located immediately outside the door between the living room and the elevated terrace. What a pleasant sight and sound. I knew right away we would be comfortable in this house.
The first floor has an adequate living area with comfortable seating and a table with six chairs for casual dining in front of the fountain. The kitchen is large and well equipped. The more formal dining room is quite large with a dining table that seats eight people comfortably. We had eleven for dinner one night and it worked just fine. The adjacent sitting room has comfortable seating and a flat screen TV that is more than satisfactory. It receives almost all the channels I get in the U.S. so I didn't have to miss any of my favorite news programs.
The information you don't get on a vacation home's website is the size of the rooms and the proximity of the rooms, one to the other. This is particularly important for bedrooms. At Casa Bella the three principal bedrooms are all large and each has a sizable bathroom attached; no sharing. All are beautifully furnished and decorated and each bedroom is a half level from the others.
The largest has a king bed with a sitting area and desk adjacent to it. The bay window and the adjacent outside terrace provide a panoramic view of San Miguel. The other two have queen beds and one of those bedrooms has doors that open to the lower level terrace, a half level above the living area. All beds are extremely comfortable.
The top floor is occupied by a spacious terrace with the same gorgeous view of the city, perfect for an end of the day cocktail and view of the sunset. Another option is to take the stairs to still another terrace with the identical view.
I can't say enough about Margarita, the housekeeper who works five days a week from 9:00 to 2:00, takes meticulous care of the property, is charming and personable and a wonderful cook. Several times we asked her to cook things she particularly likes to do and we were never disappointed. We provided money for the food and she returned the change. Be sure to have her make her specialty, paella!
I sincerely look forward to our next trip to Casa Bella.
What an absolutely lovely home! I loved that each bedroom had a separate "theme" which totally seemed to suit each of our personalities. We had an opportunity to chat with friendly neighbors, walk around the town day and night, enjoy great shopping and great nearby dining options. Margarita was simply amazing - she shopped daily for our deliciously prepared breakfast! She was very friendly and attentive as I enjoyed the patio and my coffee in the early morning. She would have breakfast ready at whatever time we requested and cleaned the house efficiently. She also served as our concierge and gave us delicious recommendations for bars and restaurants, had someone come to the house to do fancy hair styles for us to be ready for the wedding we were there to attend. She called drivers to take us around town and referred us nice places to shop and spas to get massages. We didn't bring our children this time but I hope to return in the near future. The town is quaint and beautiful, the house was so artistic and beautifully decorated. We can't wait to go back!!
