This charming apartment is ideally located in the very heart of Historical Old Lyon, 5 mn walking distance from restaurants, shops, metro, buses, museums, theatre etc...The street is calm and pedestrian, a village in town...the view is spectacular on the old red roofs and in clear days on the Mont Blanc away...
We are a family with three children. They are all students by now. Our daughter lives in Cambridge UK she is preparing a Phd. The two boys live in Lyon. The oldest studies philosophy and the youngest studies engineering and plays drums in a Rock band. My name is Christine I teach English to teenagers. Bruno, my husband, is the manager of the french subsidiary company of two German companies.
BRUNO CLEMENT, CHRISTINE CLEMENT purchased this apartment in 1987
The appartment is part of our house where we've been living for more than 20 years. It's a very typical, medieval little street. It looks like a village in the centre of the town with its tiny gardens and its fantastic views over the city and the Alps when it's clear. The city centre is at a walking distance and we never use our car to go out in town.
What is special in this appartment is that it is surrounded by trees and gardens, there's a stunning view over the city and you can walk anywhere in town.
We arrived in Lyon late, after a long day of travel. Our host Christine had given us very clear instructions to get to and into the apartment and apologized for not being able to meet us in person. Instead she came up the next morning and gave us a very warm welcome, and a detailed overview (including walking map) of the best places to visit in the area. Her recommendations were excellent and I appreciated her knowledge of local businesses and restaurants, and the city's history. She was also kind enough to arrange a taxi on the morning of departure.
As for the cozy apartment, it was a lovely and unique aerie up high above the street. After walking for hours around the old town and beyond, the apartment was a quiet and light-filled space to relax. The beds were comfortable and the space clean. It had some unique features (at least to someone from Canada) such as some areas of sloped ceilings (one bumped head), a fun loft sleeping area for one, and a chemical toilet (Christine had to explain that one to us). A concern for some people would be the steep walk up the exterior cobblestone road to the apartment (cars are restricted), and the three interior stone staircases up to the apartment, the last one being a bit of a struggle after a long day). But if you are reasonably fit and enjoy a place that is historically interesting in a great neighbourhood with a responsive host, then this is a place to consider.
We enjoyed our stay in Christine and Bruno's lovely apartment overlooking the old city of Lyon. There were many interesting things to see and do very close by, so we spent our long weekend just walking without any need for transport.
The disadvantages of the apartment were clearly spelled out by Christine ahead of time: many steps up to the apartment and the low beams especially in the second bedroom. Small toilet.
Nevertheless we were pleased to have this quiet retreat and the kind support of the hosts who were agreeable and helpful
Very good location in a nice area of Lyon with lots of nice pubs and cafe's near by. Flat was clean and spacious with lovely views. The flat had all the mod cons that we required and Christine was on hand to give us some local tips on arrival. She even booked a taxi to pick us up from the airport.
Would love to stay here again if I'm back in lyon. Only drawback was a the very small toilet for 3 of us staying!

This is a charming historical place to stay with modern upgrades, our host Christine is very attentive to all your needs and questions. We had a rental car which can be a challenge to park near the apartment the road inclines as you continue to go up, up and up maneuvering through the people walking and parked cars. But there is the option of the parking garage nearby. We stay 7 nights made it our main location so the car was nice to have for viewing the areas around Lyon but no car is best if your just visiting Lyon. The stairs to the top floor are also a challenge but the view is well worth it for the young at heart. But truly an experience staying right in the lovely historical district one can walk everywhere absolutely everywhere. Consider utilizing the Funicular cable railway car for 1.80 euros taking you to the top of the hill which allows you to walk down to the apartment instead of climbing up especially if you need to carry some groceries also it's lots of fun doing what the locals do and giving you even more of a beautiful view of the city.
This is a lovely apartment with fantastic views over Lyon. The bed on the mezzanine level was particularly popular with one of our teenage sons. The location is brilliant being situated in the charming old town which but is also only a few minutes walk across the Saone River from the busier shopping area. Christine, the apartment's owner, is very helpful (and even sent us back a pair of shoes we had left behind !)
We also had a chance to look around Christine's newly refurbished apartment below this one which has a lovely garden.
We had a fantastic holiday and I would highly recommend this apartment.
Incredible views over Lyon from the sitting / dining area. Bright and airy, very comfortable apartment. Well-equipped for visitors. Our host was warm and friendly and helped orient us to the area. You must be able to walk up (or down from the funicular stop) a steep street and up the stairs to the apartment - and it's worth the climb. The apartment is located perfectly in Vieux Lyon with easy access - either by foot or by public transportation - to shops, restaurants, museums, and other sites/sights. For a lovely apartment from which to experience Lyon, this is the one.
5 mn driving distance from the highway, 10 mn to Perrache railway station by metro, 30 mn tram (Rhônexpress) to the airport.
Lyon and its outstanding 'cuisine' (bouchons), the Vieux Lyon and its Renaissance buildings, hidden paths (traboules), Museums...and its famous 'Fête des Lumières' on December 8th !
