An ancient monastery of the XIII century is now my home. Built near the sea, it has a 180° view from the Aragonese Castle to Punta Molino, through the Vesuvius, the Islands of Procida and Vivara and the Italian coast. The apartment has thick walls and vaulted ceilings, and a balcony on strong arches. The room is wide and peaceful, overlooking the sea. My house is located in the ancient village of Ischia Ponte and it is not far from the harbour and the commercial streets, as well as from the hills and the inner parts of the island, where you can enjoy beautiful walks. The island of Ischia has a long and rich history – it was the first Greek settlement in the western Mediterranean sea –, is well known for its thermal waters and it is also called “the green island” for the rich vegetation covering it. It is part of the sea reserve “Area marina protetta Regno di Nettuno” and it offers the possibility of holidays specific for any age: diving and trekking, sand and rocks, spa and Italian cuisine, festivals and discos… it is difficult to be disappointed!
The five senses B&B is perfectly positioned in the Old Town of Ponte overlooking the water and a quiet cul-de-sac. I had a spacious and beautifully furnished room including tea&coffee making facility. It was mesmerising to watch from the large window the activities ofthe fishermen in their boats, and by night see the dots of their red and green lights scattered on the sea. All this and the varied and lovingly prepared breakfasts certainly tickled my senses, thank you, Gina, for making my 12 days with you so wonderful. Needless to mention that everything was clean and well maintained although Homeaway would like to have this confirmed so here I go. If you want to familiarise yourself a bit more with the island Gina is the person to talk to. Many a feature you won't find in any travel info online or in books will be recommended by her, beyond the obvious Ischia has plenty of hidden treasures. I hope to go again in the not too far future, and hopefully will be able to stay again at the Five Senses. Thank you Gina for all your kindness and care, I will always remember it.
When you arrive on the island of Ischia go in the direction of the Aragonese Castle. When in Ischia Ponte, you will find the church of the Spirito Santo (Holy Spirit)on your right. In front of it: Largo Convento. The entrance is the main door on the left, in front of you.
You can hire a boat, enjoy scuba diving, go to spa and other thermal springs, visit museums and archaeological sites, walk alone or on organized trekking, taste fish and the typical Ischian cuisine… Ischia has everything!
