1 Bdrm suite, w. private balcony overlooking Grand Turks tranquil creek and sea
My husband and I moved to Grand Turk from the UK, 17 years ago. My Father had just retired from a career where he travelled the world, and bought this property to renovate into short term rental units. He always loved Grand Turk and fell in love with one special person, his wife and my mother, who he met here in 1962. After all the globe-trotting, they eventually came back to Grand Turk. My father, being my father, could not sit still for 5 minutes so Island House was born…and didn’t take long for me to follow. It was either, the grey skies of London or the magnificent blues of Grand Turk (where I had been visiting since I was 8 years old)…a no brainer! I was involved with the set up and running of Island House for much of this time. Both parents have now passed away but what they started carries on today. I live in onsite, so I will be on hand to help with anything or give recommendations on where to go and what to do. I can arrange car or golf car rental, pick up from airport and show you where everything is. -Donna

Why Donna chose Cockburn Town
Firstly, Grand Turk is a magical, relaxing island, but it is not for everyone. The glitz and glamour is in Providenciales our bigger sister island. In Grand Turk, you will find a genuine laid-back Caribbean island. Donkeys, horses and goats roam the streets, freely. People are friendly and greet you. The beaches are beautiful….and you can still find a spot with no people even when the cruise ship is in. Although we are not directly on the beach, nothing is far here… the whole island is 7 miles long by 1.5 miles wide. A car is included and is yours throughout your stay. We also have bicycles if you are feeling energetic. If you are like me, I never go anywhere unless I have a vehicle. You see so much more of the place and you can go exploring the less travelled parts of the island which are just as beautiful. If you want to eat out, the Bohio restaurant is a 5 minute drive away and the “strip” 10 minutes max. The owner is nearby if you run into any difficulties like locking your key inside...it happens! And I am always happy share my local knowledge. We have daily housekeeping every day except for Sunday at no extra charge.
What makes this Apartment unique
Island House rests atop a peaceful hillside that allows you to truly escape it all. We have a pool…not all properties on Grand Turk have one. On days were the sea might get rough, you can still enjoy the water. We also have other units so if you have a bigger party, your friend’s family can all stay. We have a beautiful, peaceful garden with humming birds and if you are lucky you might see a flock of flamingos flying down the creek in front of the property around sunset. We have the perfect property for private functions. Our multi-level patio, with outdoor grill overlooks the pool and creek and is perfect for weddings and private parties.

Donna is wonderful!
Island House is Paradise!
My husband and I had a wonderful, peaceful time at Island House. It looks like a villa in the South of France! Or a Mediterranean type house in the Hollywood Hills. The accommodations are wonderful, the rooms spacious and wonderfully furnished. We spent a lot of time on our terrace that overlooks the river and the ocean beyond. The pool and its surroundings are very lush with all kinds of palm trees and flowering bushes. And, Donna, the host is the loveliest human being. So warm, helpful and full of useful information. All in all, we love Island House and Grand Turk! It's a magical place with magical people.
Wonderful accommodations with a fantastic hostess! Highly recommend Island House!
We stayed at island House for a week in February while vacationing on Grand Turk and learning to dive. The suite is beautifully maintained with daily housekeeping service. We had coffee every morning on the patio and watched the wild donkeys stroll by the house. We made breakfast every morning in the kitchen and grilled fresh lobster tail on the gas grill located out by the pool for dinner one night. Recommend checking out the local fish market for fresh fish and lobster! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals, and Donna even stocked the kitchen with some basic staples, like bread and milk and coffee, before we arrived. The bed was very comfortable and we both slept great with windows open and the island breeze. There is air conditioning if you prefer but we didn’t need it. Pool area is lovely and very beautiful with bougainvillea and nice pool chairs.
Island House is located a short drive from the main downtown area of Cockburn Town but Donna provides a car rental with the suite so it was really easy to get around the island. Nothing is far away and we really liked the freedom of having a car during our stay.
Donna is a phenomenal hostess and was so accommodating and friendly! She picked us up from the airport and showed us where to go for dinner and good coffee. She was very accessible for questions and we enjoyed having drinks with her at our favorite local restaurant, The Salt Raker.
We did our PADI open water certification with Blue Water Divers and really liked them. Would also highly recommend Humpback Dive Shack for whale watching. We got to get in the water and snorkel near the whales.
Our stay on Grand Turk was so much fun and we absolutely loved Island House. Highly recommend!
Anything I write is really a repeat of the wonderful accolades already stated about this property, the island, and Donna the owner. Can't say enough about how great she is and how helpful with tips (the island tour that she took us on upon our arrival was very informative). Our vacation was soooo relaxing. The unit was perfect for us and Donna even put in a single bed into the living room for our 5th traveler. The pool, grill and outdoor patio area made it even more special. Having the rental car for the week was wonderful too. We went to Governor's Beach 3 different days (a short 10 min drive if that)...twice we were the only people on the entire beach, and the other time there was maybe 10 others. It also had a restroom and outdoor shower to get teh sand off of you. The color and temp of the ocean was wonderful, with gentle waves, though one day it did pick up a bit and made for some fun body surfing. There are some areas with large (short) rocks so that provided places to snorkel and still see some fish. We also did horse back riding through Chukka tours, which I highly recommend - we got to run the horses through the ocean as part of the ride - a once in life time experience for me. My husband and daughter went scuba diving three times and saw lots of underwater life.
Great accomodation and host!
We arrived Christmas Day and because of that, Donna our host made us dinner reservations at the Bohio Resort to ensure we had somewhere to go. This is a small laid back island but there are a few very good restaurants. Some great take out as well such as a very good pizza place 10 minutes away. Also try the fabulous take out ribs at Doo Doo's rib cage (only Friday and Saturday). You will need directions to both these places. Also try Jack's Shack near the Cruise Centre when the cruise ships are in. Your kitchen is fully equipped and there is a brand new BBQ on site. You will not find fresh meat or fish in the store but you can buy fish from the fishermen (ask about it) or you might get some if you go on a fishing charter. We were lucky enough to be given some Yellowfin Tuna to BBQ.
Having the rental car included was nice to explore the island and go for supplies. We did the 30 minute walk into town most of the time for dining. Favorite places were Sandbar (casual on the beach), The Turks Head Inn (good food, spotty service) and not to be confused with the Grand Turk Inn (our favorite). Food at the Bohio Dive resort is also very good. Live music on Saturday BBQ nights. By the way we felt extremely safe everywhere we walked day and night (take a flashlight at night).
The pool at Island House is very nice. Governors Beach is very nice if no cruise ships in. Same with Bohio. You can rent a beach chair from Bohio for $10 although we sort of became regulars at he outside bar so I doubt they would have charged us for a chair.
If you are looking for a really laid back vacation, then Island House could be the place for you. We enjoyed many afternoons and evenings in our condo with takeout and homemade rum punch. The suite we stayed in is called The Guinep, not the one shown in this listing. To see the 4 units in this complex go to www.islandhouse.tc. Thanks Donna for your hospitality. Mark and Brenda
We loved our stay at the Island House. Donna has all the information on sites and restaurants. Because of recent facial surgery, my husband email to ask if there were beach chairs and umbrellas. When we arrive there were two new chairs and umbrellas. The refrigerator was stocked for breakfast. We went to Bohio ( crazy good burgers), The Nest, Sandbar, and Barbie's. The grocery stores had enough variety to BBQ and make picnics. Highly recommend small museum on main street near the water, only open on cruise ship days and The Conch Farm. The daily housekeeper and gardeners were all friendly. We had the sparkling pool to ourselves and most the time the beaches. Even on cruise ship days you can find a quiet beach. Donna is continuing to maintain and upgrade this beautiful property.
