MONTEPORZANO VILLA AND HOUSES FOR HOLIDAYS 800 IN STONE IN ORVIETO
Villa Monteporzano is a beautiful country property 2.5 km from the Medieval city of Orvieto in Umbria/Italy. It was built in 1800 and since then it is being owned by the ancient noble Umbrian family Fiumi di Sterpeto who moved from Assisi to Orvieto in 1800.
Thanks to its dominant hilly position, it makes the guests enjoy a spectacular view of the tufa rocks of the city with its Duomo and the surrounding valley.
Villa Monteporzano has been recently and perfectly restored while preserving the original building, with ceilings made of chestnut beams, ancient cotto floors and stone fireplaces, and offers unforgettable and unique holidays in an amazing 1800 atmosphere and with all the modern comforts.
The property offers different possibilities for your stay:
- The 450 square meter ancient padronal Villa, arranged on two levels, rich of frescoes and ancient family furniture, that can accommodate up to 8 people, surrounded by a wide and shady private garden.
- Five wide and comfortable self-catering apartments of different sizes, with two or three beds that can accommodate totally up to 18 people. They are all located in the ancient stone countryhouse that was in the past the family's farmhouse and stable.
The property has a wonderful 7 x 14 meter large swimming-pool both for the Villa and the apartments’s guests, surrounded by the olive groves and and a wide landscaped garden with roses, with a Roman staircase access, a solarium area equipped with sun loungers and umbrella, where guests can enjoy a breathtaking view of Orvieto.

Enchanting villa in the mountains of Umbria
Six of us stayed in this perfect villa in the mountains of Umbria with breathtaking views of the city of Orvieto. We were enthusiastically welcomed by a family member of the original builders of the villa, which has much of the original furniture and wall treatments. On each side of the villa, bathrooms and a kitchen were added, so while the old-world charm is on full exhibit, all the modern conveniences we have come to expect were available. Firewood was provided for evening fires in the kitchen, and outdoor furniture provided wonderful places for before-dinner appetizers or breakfast while overlooking the beautiful mountainside. A full time "guardian" (Italian for manager?) took care of any questions we had. Our host provided great restaurant tips (Trattoria del Conte is GREAT!), sightseeing and taxi info. Nearby grocery shopping made cooking in easy - and since the villa was so charming it was difficult to leave it. Orvieto is an other-world experience, with everything from post-BC caves to 13th century Duomo to great shopping - we spent 2 full days there and could have gone back for more. A cooking class at nearby winery Decugnano dei Barbi was a true treat and great learning experience. I cannot strongly enough state the beauty, serenity, stateliness and enjoyment we experienced at Villa Monteporzano.
Thank you very much Giulio & Isabella for your very nice welcome. It was pleasure to discover Orvieto and surroundings, and staying in your beautiful family house. This house and garden are a real heaven of peace ! With your help, we spend unforgettable holidays with our 4 kids, who especialy loved the cocking session ;-) Thank you again, we hope we will come back to Umbria... Best wishes. Adélaïde
Our stay at Villa Monteporzano in Orvieto was beyond delightful for our entire family. We received such a warm welcome, and all our needs were provided for so fully, as we nestled into a most relaxing, beautiful, and peaceful time as we could have possibly imagined. The Villa is an incredibly beautiful home with such a rich history, and we were made to feel as though it was ours. The views of the Italian countryside and of Orvieto were better than what pictures could show. We drove to the Villa from a stay in Florence and soaked up all we could of this enchanting area of Orvieto. Then we dropped our car and took a train from Orvieto to Rome. While Florence was wonderful (and we really enjoyed hiking Cinque Terre), and Rome was a great city with so many sights and experiences to absorb, our true relaxation and time to really absorb what we felt was the heart of Italy was at the Villa. Our family would love to go back and gain a greater sense of the richness of this experience. I relax and smile as I close my eyes and think of it.
