Allamanda is located in a peaceful residential area in St James on the west of the island, with the crystal waters and white coral sands of Barbados's platinum coast just a few minutes away where you can take advantage of the many water sports offered. The quaint centres of Sunset Crest and Holetown are nearby as is the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre. Here you will find boutiques, cafes and excellent duty-free and supermarket shopping and world class cinemas. Restaurants abound offering international and local cuisine and small intimate bars provide nightly entertainment. Golf at Sandy Lane's Country Club is only a 5 minute drive away.

Attached to, but independent from the main property, Allamanda comprises of: a dining gazebo which looks out across the pool and views of the west coast; large lounge with tv and cable service; well equipped kitchen with large fridge/freezer; shower room and air-conditioned bedroom. Wireless internet is also provided.

The apartment suits couples seeking a peaceful retreat but within striking distance from local activities.

Notes:
Attached to the main house but entirely self-contained, the accommodation comprises: double bedroom; shower room; well-equipped kitchen with fridge/freezer, gas stove and microwave; and a private living/dining gazebo leading onto the pool deck. We have a well-stocked bookshelf and ample wardrobe and shelf space. Maid and linen service are provided twice-weekly. Air-conditioning is to the bedroom only.

As relaxing as it gets......

Don't know where to start.......if I could think of a single negative thing about this lovely property I probably wouldn't mention it - simply because nothing could possibly detract from the perfection. Location - quiet, secure and beautiful. Apartment - supremely comfortable, well equipped, elegantly decorated. Pool - aaaaaaah. Hosts - generous, helpful and just very,very nice people! And I know people keep mentioning Jan's rum punch but they aren't kidding.......it's the best we tasted in over 2 weeks on the island.

A foretaste of paradise of you like peace and quiet and nature from a spotless home-from-home

Spent a heavenly fortnight at Allamanda over Easter 2017

This wing of an upmarket private house, backing onto golf links, is peaceful, spotless, comfortable & well-equipped, inc good Wifi.

We loved:

Eating every meal (reading & playing dominoes) on the veranda in the company of little lizards, cheeky finches & bananaquits; watching humming birds in the hibiscus & jacaranda; occasional monkeys; absence of mozzies; distant sunsets over the Caribbean; fireflies & bats at dusk & then shooting-stars in an inky-sky free of light-pollution. One day a lazy caterpillar pupated overnight by the pool & we were treated to the emergence of a beautiful orange Gulf Fritillary butterfly. It really was a taste of paradise.

Jan and Guy, the owners, are so welcoming yet unobtrusive & Jan's Rum Punch, using limes from the garden, is to die for - a real treat in the fridge.

We were fine without a hire-car for 10 days, walking 20 minutes down (and up) (busy) Holder's Hill, or more experimentally across the golf course and through Sandy-Lane dream-homes, to the beach (ace snorkelling at Folkestone Reserve) or frequent West Coast buses (only £1 a journey). You can easily walk to the Polo ground for a splendid afternoon's entertainment. We enjoyed car hire for 3 days at the end to explore the other coasts - don't miss Hunte's Gardens, lunch at Bathsheba's Atlantic Hotel & Atlantic waves pounding the northern tip of the island. We were early to arrive & leave Oistin's Fish Friday & enjoyed it before it became boisterous. Easter Sunday at St Peter's in Speightstown was a cast of thousands & haze of incense with flowers to rival Chelsea; we loved that & the Gallery of Caribbean Art. But avoid Juma restaurant; surly service, mediocre food & outdated prices displayed. Best meal by far was at The Fish Pot but we also had a generous, tasty, cheaper lunch alongside locals at Just Grillin in Sunset Crest by Holetown.

Food is expensive thanks to exchange rate but Holetown supermarket runs a courtesy bus back to the door.

Who would Allamanda not suit? Party animals wanting nearby night life, restaurants, bars or all-day beach-babes. And there's a (locked) door from the bedroom to the owner's house, prob just to a utility room - but those who like noisy bedroom 'conversations' might feel inhibited.

For us it was a foretaste of paradise; classy, peaceful R&R & if we visit lovely Barbados again we'd book here in a heartbeat; if it's available - perhaps we should have kept quiet!

Could Not Have Hoped For More

This property is clean, well equipped (including a great selection of DVD's and tourist guides) and very comfortable. The views are beautiful as is the island. The hosts Guy and Jan were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about Barbados. There are several beautiful walks within a stone's throw of the property and a gym just around the corner. The local beach is just one of many stunning beaches within a short distance. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Perfect setting for a relaxing vacation.

A good experience from beginning to end. Excellent communication during the booking stage. The (very) detailed arrival directions ensured that we found the property with no problem and we were met by Jan and Guy as we opened the car doors. The property is ideally located for visiting all parts of the island without encountering the heavy traffic on the coat roads. The apartment was well equipped for our need and the bed was very comfortable. We spent a lot of time in the shade of the lanai reading and watching the birds and occasional monkey. We found Masseys' at Warrens to be the best for everyday shopping and for coffee the Coffee Bean at the plaza adjoining Cost U Less takes a bit of beating. If you have a satnav (gps) it is well worth loading the free road maps of the island from BajanNav.

We would have booked for the same time next year but it was already booked.

Romantic apartment in tropical setting

My husband and I just returned from our vacation in Barbados. We chose to stay at the Allamanda apartment as it offered everything on our wish list. We contacted Jan (the owner) whose professionalism, trustworthiness and care for her guests was inspirational throughout the entire booking process. Jan always answered promptly all of our questions, she sent us directions to the apartment and just before our arrival she sent us her best wishes for a safe flight to Barbados. We could not wait to meet Jan in person. Upon our arrival to Allamanda Jan and her husband Guy greeted us in person and showed us the apartment. The apartment was exactly as on the pictures, spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, fully equipped kitchen, large refrigerator with freezer, large shower, we never missed hot water, the tap water is perfectly safe to drink, all modern life facilities such as Wi-Fi Internet cabled TV and air conditioning, cozy bedroom with comfortable mattress and sheets, plenty of towels and beach towels. The rum punch which Jan and Guy prepared for us with the limes grown in their garden was delicious. We absolutely loved the covered terrace surrounded by tropical vegetation with a view towards the Caribbean sea where we enjoyed our breakfast every morning, while listening to the birds and observing a family of the green monkeys which very often came to play in a nearby tree. We discovered the island of Barbados by using the local buses which was a very inexpensive, yet comfortable way of travelling and it allowed us to experience their way of life, culture and the friendliness of the Barbadians. The Paynes Beach, one of the best beaches on the West coast, where you can also see and swim with sea turtles, buy fresh fish at the local fish market, watch sunset every night, was only a 20 minutes walk from the apartment. Holders market held every Sunday, where you can buy fresh fruits, vegetables, local foods, crafts and souvenirs was only 5 minutes walk from the apartment. Must see is Bathsheba and Animal Flower Cave on the Atlantic side of the island. We loved sailing with Good Times catamaran and we do no hesitate to recommend them to other travelers.

Jan and Guy we thank you for your wonderful hospitality, we very much appreciated that you took us to the picnic on Foul Bay beach, one of the most stunning natural beaches which left us speechless. We hope to see you soon at "our tropical retreat Allamanda".

Alamanda looks out to the Caribbean Sea over Sandy Lane's Green Monkey Golf Course and Holder's polo field that is less than a mile away where international tournaments are hosted in season and a regular Sunday market is held. There are exciting days of horse racing to be had at the historic Garrison racetrack. We can also arrange a day's snorkeling and swimming with the turtles or, if you prefer, a day's deep-sea fishing. Golf is also close at hand. Suited to couples, Alamanda offers quiet seclusion in a rich tropical setting. We recommend that you hire a car in order to make the most of this beautiful island and this can be arranged for you in advance. We can arrange for you to pick up your hire car at the airport to make it even more convenient.
