About Michael O Donoghue
I am a beef farmer. This cottage belonged to my mother's family and I bought it in 1993. In 2006, I renovated it completely and it has been a holiday letting since then. I enjoy welcoming guests from all over the world.
Michael O Donoghue purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Michael O Donoghue chose Mallow
This cottage belonged to my family for at least 100 years. Three generations of my family have owned this cottage and the farm. My grandfather bought this cottage in the early 1900's and 3 generations of my family have farmed on the land here. I then acquired the farm and renovated it in 2006. It previously was a thatched cottage. It is typical of many of the local cottages that were built in this area at this time.
What makes this Cottage unique
Location is the best feature. It is ideal for touring the South West of Ireland. Set just 1km off the N72 and about half-way between Mallow and Killarney. It is set in a country location, in a farming community with views of the surrounding countryside and mountains. ( Clara mountains)

Beautiful and quaint stay
Micheal was the loveliest host, property was very easy to find, very clean and cosy. A perfect gateaway from the city.
Couldn't ask for more!
Michael, the owner, was SUPER accommodating. He was incredibly pleasant and ensured that the place was sparkling clean. When my fiance and I ran into a dilemma, he went over an hour out of his way to help us at a very late hour. The cottage was amazingly quiet, peaceful and gave you a wonderful sense of comfort. 10/10 would recommend.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay at our cottage. We were glad to be able to help you and so glad you enjoyed you stay. Hope to see you again. Michael.
Relaxing & Comfortable
Very quiet & Comfortable cottage. Enjoyed watching the swallows. Has everything you could need in a quiet countryside setting. Within easy drivable distance of rings of Kerry & Dingle, and Killarney with its National Park. Would recommend Muckross.
Thank you for taking the time to write your warm review and your recommendations for day trips, all of which are wonderful to visit.
Adorable cottage in a Central Location
We had a wonderful time staying at this cottage. It was clean and had everything we needed. It is centrally located for day trips to Cork, Cobh, Middlebury, Killarney, The Ring of Kerry and we visited the Cliffs of Moher after we checked out on our way back to Dublin. I would suggest finding it in the daylight for your first night because there are some narrow country roads to get there. But overall it is a fantastic spot that allows you to see the charming and peaceful countryside of Ireland.
Thank you for taking the time to send your positive review.
Great place! Loved the country setting.
We stayed here for one month. Michael helped us get settled then checked on us periodically. 15 minutes from Millstreet for food and fuel. A few good restaurants there as well as Kanturk.
Thank you for you positive review.
A True Get Away From It All Cottage
If you want a true Irish cottage, in the honest to God country, you can't get any better than this. No tourists for miles and miles. No wi-fi and barely cell service. A true escape cottage. On a real farm. You are half way between Kilarney and Mallow. About a half hour to both with some small towns in between. It was a half hour drive to Mallow for grocery shopping and wi-fi at the library. Both of us have Irish library cards!
The cottage has more than enough space for two and was clean and well kept. Very nice sized master bedroom and a smaller bedroom with two single beds. Kitchen was well stocked with dishes and pots and pans. Having our own washer meant less luggage we had to bring on our trip from the States. There's a clothes line outside and a drying rack inside. There's a nice sized bath tub if you enjoy a nice soak after a long day of touring. The fire place works which was nice for our fall visit and a couple of rainy nights. There is a satellite dish with lots of channels to choose from.
Michael is a nice man to work with. Just remember if you book this cottage it may take a couple of days for email responses because there is no internet on the farm so he has to go to town. He'll get back to you.
The only negative was getting to the cottage. The roads get more narrow as you get there ie:two lane, to one lane, to a two track lane back to the farm. We got a true lesson in driving in Ireland in the first twenty-four hours! But it was all worth it. By the time our week was up we were old hands at navigating the roads. In less than ten minutes you can be back on the main road.
We had to wait 25 years to go on our Ireland trip and we were so happy every night to come back from sight seeing to relax in our own cottage, on a farm, way out in the country.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review our cottage.
Your positive comments are very welcome and helpful for future guests.
As you say the cottage is a rural retreat which is just off the N72, and a car is essential.
Guests might like to know that they could also drive to Millstreet to get groceries, which is about 10 minutes drive away. It also has a library, banks, pharmacies, and restaurants. Also a train station.
We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday in Ireland after waiting 25 years!!
Hope to see you again,
Ideal base for touring Kerry, Cork, Limerick and even Clare. Recommended are the beautiful Lakes of Killarney, Kenmare, the Gap of Dunloe, the Ring of Kerry, Dingle, the beautiful West Cork, Mizen Head, Kinsale, Cork City, Limerick city, and even the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare.
