Beautiful house right on the beach....10 feet takes you from the open kitchen/living area to the little pool, then about 20 yards more puts you into the surf. Everything worked except the ice-cube maker, which the owners fixed quickly. Such an adorable situation, we barely saw much more of the island!
good home and location
house right on a decent beach. not crowded at all... occasional people walking/running past, but no one lingering near the property. Newly refurbished when we were there in Dec.2017.
My only complaint is the open louvered widows in most rooms... there are no screens or glass, so the mosquitos get right in. We brought our own mosquito nets for each bed and also flushed them out and killed most of them the first night, but still ended up with numerous mosquito bites. With the horrible vector-borne diseases on the Caribbean islands (Dengue fever, Chikungunya, Zika virus), its risky leaving such openings in the house.
Great house in a fantastic location
We enjoyed our stay at this house immensely. It is very clean, quiet, and comfortable. The location is incredible, being located at the west end of a pristine two mile beach, facing into the prevailing air currents, so there is always a nice cooling breeze. The sea floor off the beach is pure sand and gets deep gradually, so the swimming is wonderful, but there are always 1-2 foot waves -- great for body surfing and a mesmerizing sound for sleeping at night, but not the best place for tiny children to swim. The deck gets nice sun until late afternoon and the plunge pool is fantastic for a quick, non-salty cool down.
The kitchen is very nicely supplied, and we enjoyed being able to shop at local markets and do most of our own cooking at home. There is a fantastic bakery a half mile down the road -- a great place to pick up warm croissants and a daily baguette each morning. Bedrooms are nice sized and having three full bathrooms is nice for larger groups. Mattresses were thin and uncomfortable, but we took a mattress from a spare bedroom and added it to ours, and it worked fine. Mosquitoes are a problem at night and necessitate closing up the house in the evening and turning on the AC. Screens on the windows would be nice, but aren't practical.
This was our first visit to Martinique, and despite having stayed on fifteen other islands throughout the Caribbean, this one quickly shot to the top of our list. It is amazingly beautiful and lush with gorgeous mountains and stunning beaches everywhere. The French influence is pervasive from the fantastic restaurants, the superb roads, and the impeccable cleanliness everywhere. A rental car is a must, but go small, as parking anywhere other than at the house is a problem. If you are going to go to another beach or attraction, go early in the day or there may not be a place to park. We did some fantastic scuba diving with Alpha Plongee in Grande Anse, a twenty minute drive from the house. The drive up to Mt. Pelee is spectacular, but the hike up to the peak takes 1 1/2 hours and is continual uphill steps, so if you are going to do it, give yourself plenty of time, be in decent shape, take water and good shoes, and go early in the day before the clouds envelop the top.
It should go without saying, but remember that Martinique is French, so don't expect English to be spoken or understood. We found the people to be wonderfully friendly and helpful, but knowing some basic French is a must.
Great place for a family of 5
Great spot right on the beach! We stayed one week with 2 adults and 3 children. The children had a great time in the pool, and hunting for crabs on the beach.
The owners was so nice , and helped us in any thinkable way. Can be mostly recomended for relaxing spot for families with small children!
Maxime
