Recent pool (2009), 10x5, to a depth of 1.10 to 1.60 m. The water is processed without chlorine. Alarm system in case of accidental fall, used under the responsibility of parents. Around the heated (28 °) pool a large terrace offers four parasols, deckchairs and sun loungers, a table and eight chairs. Lighting the night around the pool.  An additional terrace, some thirty meters away from the house, is installed under the pines (table, garden chairs, lighting). It helps in the summer, especially on days of heavy traffic and north wind, forget the rumor of the highway (inaudible inside the house and invisible). Three bikes (two adults and one child), swings. Two TVs, one with a DVD player.

Ticked all the boxes

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this villa for the first week of September 2017 and really enjoyed our stay.

You enter the property through gates at the caretakers house and drive up a tree lined driveway to a circular driveway outside the house.

The design of the house is such that you enter through the front door and go immediately up the stairs to the living area of the house (or you could walk up the slope at the side of the house that will take you around to the pool area)

We only used 4 of the 5 bedrooms so there was plenty of room

There is a lovely bright living room. The kitchen is fine with all the appliances you could need (especially a nice coffee maker that went down well with us)

The best feature of the house and the one that got most use is the pool area

The pool was lovely and nicely heated. It was nice to chill out by the pool with a glass of wine as dusk came on and watch the occasional bat swoop down.

There is free wifi that is picked up in the dining room and pool area but does not extend to the bedrooms

The house is very close to the airport and a big shopping centre where you can pick up plenty of cheap wine!

Also it’s only a few km’s from Carcassonne city and near to such nice towns as Lagrasse, Limoux and especially Montsegur which is well worth a visit for the climb up to the old ruins. The view is remarkable and the walk/climb which only takes about 30 minutes is not too arduous.

If I was coming back to this area I would definitely consider this property again

Beautiful area, nice old rustic charming home with some updating needed...

  • 3 of 5

First, Jacky, the grounds keeper was marvelous. He spoke very little English, but we were able to communicate well enough. He is a wonderful person to deal with. We loved the rental location, it was nice and peaceful. But, we had some issues we want to point out...First, the house is old and rustic in charm but it has its flaws with that...if you like older amenities...then this may be your place. We had at one time 8 people in the house, and we shared 1 shower between the 6 of us. One of the rooms had a bath and a shower (no curtain so water all over the place), one had a bathtub with a handheld shower(no curtain) and the others only had a sink and bidet (as advertised), and there was one full shower in the hall . We didn't realize how inconvenient not having a toilet in each room would be in reality. Night time trots to find the toilet was not fun. There was only 1 air conditioner, and it was in the biggest bedroom, so we ran that and left all bedrooms open at night to cool the rooms. We could have opened windows but without screens bugs would have been all over the place. We had issues with bugs anyway, we found couple of bugs in two beds, some throughout the house (like ants in kitchen). The one bathroom my mother was in had a swarm of ants and so could not use it for several of the days until they were totaled killed off. We sprayed for a couple of days, then Jacky was able to get rid of them finally. We realize the house is in a wooded area and should not be surprised, but we felt that with the cost, bugs should be at a minimum. The kitchen had old appliances, but was fully stocked. Bring your own paper towels and toilet paper. The owner provided towels but they were lined dried so don't expect "hotel towels". One full towel and hand towel each person, no washcloths. The biggest bedroom had a mattress cover and one top sheet, no cover sheet. They had blankets (if needed) but they were old and some had stains on them. The pool area was very nice, but pool not heated (it felt good on hot days but if it were a little cool it may be a little chilly to swim). There is a washer available but you will need to line dry. IT is a big house and good for large number of people, but as some have previously noted, it is an outdated house. It needs some work. We liked the house, but for some of the things noted. Sylvia was easy to work with during the rental process. Jacky was "superb" while we were at the Rental.

Owner's Response: We are happy that our hosts finally enjoyed their holidays in my property and "loved the rental location ". We are sorry that they found some bugs in the house but in the countryside that sometimes happens, even in the most luxurious places. Actually you could have left the windows open during the night, as everybody does in summer, without finding "bugs all over the place "! The only real problem was the ants in the bathroom of your mother and we are really sorry about that. As soon as you let us know that, we warned Jacky and happily he " was able to get rid of them ". Some of your criticisms are more astonishing. As you admit yourself the number and the equipment of the bathrooms is exactly described in the advertisement of HomeAway and in the contract of seasonal renting. You can also notice that air conditioning is not provided in the contract (Jacky gave you the remote control to make you happy) and that we usually charge fees for lending and cleaning bath towels, what we didn't do for you. At last we'd like to rectify some inexact observations : sheets are all provided (cover and top of course) and if one was missing you should have asked from Jacky, it was just a forgetting. Same thing for the toilet paper which is provided of course. The kitchen appliances (refrigerator, oven, dishwasher)are all very recent (less than two years) except the hotplates which are older. The pool is heated (26°C at least) at any time and I'm astonished that you felt it "chilly to swim ", as Jacky didn't notice any problem with the heatpump during your stay. You told Jacky when you left that you had very much enjoyed your holidays in my property and we are a bit desappointed that you had so many, and sometimes unfair, reproaches even if we know that nothing is perfect. We hope therefore that you'll keep a good memory of your holidays

An enjoyable stay

We found there weren't really enough bathroom facilities and overall felt the property would benefit from modernisation. Jacky was very friendly and helpful.

Wow! French villa near Carcassone

  • 5 of 5

I would hate to oversell this wonderful villa, but our jaws dropped when we entered this home. Jacky gave us a wonderful tour - opening door after door to an amazing home. The rooms have an old style French decor, tiled floors, almost all rooms facing the outdoor pool. Internet works best near the modem, but not a hardship. Great room for eating and relaxing. We were a group of 8 and never felt like we were on top of each other. The house is close to Carcassone (our goal for this region), and this house is perfect! We relaxed by the pool, cooked breakfast with windows open to the French countryside! Ample parking, large rooms, many bathrooms! Just a wonderful experience! Highly recommend!

Very nice place in Cathar Country

  • 4 of 5

Excellent villa for big family. We had a really good time there with sunny weather mostly (unfortunately with a cold wind). The garden was extensively used by us for sports, sunbathing and BBQing. Supermarkets and the beautiful city of Carcassonne are conveniently closeby.

Only drawbacks were the noise from the autoroute, which is close by and depending on the wind can be very well heard sitting in the garden (indoors it is not a problem), and the swimming pool temperature, which never managed to get close to the advertised 28 degrees (the continuing cold wind might be to blame for that).

If we would plan another family outing in the same region, we would strongly contemplate coming here again!

Owner's Response: We are very happy that you enjoyed these family holidays, despite that strong and cold wind that sometimes blows in spring, with some unfortunate drawbacks. Happily in our region spring is most of the time sunny !
