Space 3,229 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Newly upgraded beautiful stand alone Country Cottage

Deep in the heart of leafy Buchanan Castle Estate, just outside the village of Drymen, Strathendrick House is a haven of peace and tranquillity. A vast garden, dominated by an enormous fir, and surrounded by mature trees and an orchard, ensure utter seclusion and privacy.

This prestigious property is being completely upgraded and modernized throughout the winter of 2017-18 and will be ready to receive guests for the spring of 2018.

In addition to the four charming bedrooms located upstairs, the house now comprises a spacious downstairs bedroom with en-suite, perfect for older family members or those with small children. The newly built state of the art kitchen, with its large island, the centrepiece for socializing and food prep, features maple units and wrought iron stand-alone units, and adjoins the living area in a vast open plan space, further opening out, through French doors, onto the beautiful garden, should you be fortunate enough for al fresco dining. There are three log-burning stoves dotted throughout the living areas and a cosy TV snug. There are three en-suites and 2 public bathrooms, one with a claw footed, Victorian style bath.

The house is tastefully decorated, in a mix of the traditional and modern, and feels much more like a home than a holiday property. There is private access to the stream at the bottom of the garden, trampolines and swings. Although suitable for families, friends, or larger groups, Strathendrick is also suitable for couples looking for a romantic and secluded break. Remember, it is first and foremost a comfortable family home.

The village of Drymen is charming. Local amenities include several fine pubs all serving traditional hot and cold food, a supermarket, a bank, a local butcher, a gallery, souvenir shop and a well-stocked library. There are a variety of events including ceilidhs, regular fairs and dances throughout the year. It is also ideally located for exploring the beauty of Loch Lomond, The Trossachs, and the gateway to the West Highlands.

Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow are all within easy reach.

We supply a complimentary Welcome Pack upon arrival consisting of a bottle of red wine, shortbread, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, olive oil & salt & pepper. There is also a Cleaning Starter Pack provided containing all the essentials.

Why J.A. Ker Russell chose Drymen

We wanted a secluded spot, but not isolated, within walking distance to a village and local pub / restaurant. We were looking to bring up a young family in somewhere we could always call home and always look forward to returning to, whatever age we were. And we wanted somewhere special, that excited us each time we arrived. Strathendrick House has achieved everything we wanted and more!

What makes this cottage unique

Secluded and private but not isolated

Big enough to fit friends and family, small enough to feel warm, welcomed and comfortable

Decorated and finished with charm and taste but not flash

An amazing garden with its own private river

A family of deer that treats that garden as it's own

A perfect place to get away but never too far

Beautiful house and experience

  • 5 of 5

This was a whole family holiday , with a 2 and 4 year old along to keep us active.

The house inside and out is beautiful and well updated and decorated.

There is plenty of accommodation , up to 9 beds in very large spacious bedrooms some with great views of the grounds.

Glasgow and Stirling are about 40 minutes away for serious shopping and Drymen is within walking distance with plenty of restaurants.Lock Lomand is 10 minutes away and North and west this area is the gateway to some of the most spectacular and beautiful scenery in the world.

Making the reservation and communicating with the owner was flawless and Dawn the housekeeper could not have been more helpful throughout .

Just a fabulous place to s

Great place

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here as a family to celebrate my dad's birthday and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a lovely big house with beautiful grounds and a perfect remote location. Unfortunately the weather was terrible and we didn't get a chance to use the garden which was a real shame as it would have been fantastic. We were told when we were leaving that renovations are being done to modernise the house and I think they will reap the benefits when they do. I'm sure it will be an outstanding place to stay once complete not that it wasn't great before. Would definitely return and I highly recommend.

A really nice house

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in August. The first thing to say is that this house feels like someones home, not a holiday rental. It is nicely laid out and tastefully decorated in an ecletic way with lots of interesting pictures. It is fitted and furnished to a high quality - higher than most rented houses. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped and opens into a dining area with an excellent log burning stove. They leave loads and loads of logs. There are two connected lounge areas , one of which which has double doors with panoramic views of the beautiful garden. On a nice evening you can go through the doors and sit with your drink on the cobbled terrace. When it starts to get a bit chilly you can toss a few logs in the fire pit and stay out longer.

The two main bedrooms are large and have on-suites. The other bedrooms are small and there is also a bed in the downstairs play room. The ensuite shower rooms are spacious and there is plenty of hot water delivered with good pressure.

The setting is absolutley beautiful with a large garden and a burn running down one side. There is a pathway to walk to the village of Drymen which takes about 15 minutes and we would highly recommend the Clachan Inn for good beer and food. The pub accepts dogs - not that we had any of course!

The minor negative points are that the ensuite in the main bedroom is a little gloomy because there is not enough lighting. You will bang you head on the staircase at some point. And there is no tumble dryer... in Scotland!!!

Overall we absolutley loved this place and would highly recommend it. We would definitely go back.

loved the stay.

  • 4 of 5

My party from India and Pakistan enjoyed their stay in this idyllic spot of Scotland. House felt like home from home, and the deer in the garden were a bonus.

The guests have promised to come again. Definitely!!

Owner's Response: Hi Nirmal, we made two promises when you booked. Firstly that you'd love the house and secondly, if you were very lucky, the family of deer would visit you regularly. Both promises have been fulfilled. Please come back when you just need a break. You and your family are welcome anytime!

AMAZING house! well equipped, serene weekend had.

  • 5 of 5

What an AMAZING house. We had a fantastic long weekend at the house celebrating a special birthday. Everyrhing was immaculate even down to the lovely welcome pack including wine and shortbread.

The garden is huge and it was lovely to sit outside listening to the wildlife and even spitting the deer at the bottom of the garden.

Children would love to run around, just need to watch them with the burn. It wasn't deep when we were there and wellies on would make a wonderful adventure!!!

Two of the bedrooms are huge and have ensuites. The beds are so comfy and we had a super sleep. The other bedrooms are good and accommodate another 5 people.

The kitchen is well equipped and the logs fires were a delight to sit in front of. We will certainly be back at a letter date. Everyone has requested another stay. Thank you
