About Jeffrey Frechette
My wife and I both grew up in the Midwest. We dreamed about moving to the West coast and in 1989 we managed to cobble together almost $1000.00 and a trailer made from the bed of a 1972 Toyota pickup truck. We decided to move to Seattle with barely an idea of what to expect. Nirvana was playing at small clubs in Belltown and Seattle started to get noticed for the Grudge scene. Across Lake Washington Microsoft was minting millionaires by the thousands. Seattle was going to start growing up, an it turns out so were we. Ellen and I were working in the restaurant industry in hopes of one day opening our own restaurant. I was learning as much as I could working as a cook while Ellen was waiting tables at some of the finest restaurants in Seattle. We watched Washington Sate become a World Class wine producing region. Washington State also boasts one of the finest growing regions for many types of produce, hops, livestock, and seafood. It was only a matter of time that with the resources that the tech boom brought to the region that Seattle was to bloom into the incredible global city it is today. Ultimately we decided to pursue careers outside of the hospitality industry--I think we both realized that raising a family would be difficult working the required hours of restaurant owners. I decided to study architecture and building which has developed into a true passion of mine. Ellen went to medical school at University of Washington and now practices as an internal medicine doctor. We have 2 lovely daughters, a Belgian Malanois dog, 8 chickens, 2 bunnies, and an American Saddlebred horse.
Jeffrey Frechette purchased this House in 1996
Why Jeffrey Frechette chose Greenwood
We bought this house in 1996. It was a tiny 500 sq. ft. box that had been a cheap rental for many years. As soon as the sale was final I started to tear it down. In retrospect it would have been a much better decision to learn a few things about building and maybe even have a few dollars to my name before I started the demolition. I guess I just knew I did not want to live in the house at its current state. As time went on and my skills developed we slowly started to get the vision of what our property would become. I fell in love with the Japanese courtyard house. I also loved the rigor of Mies Van der Rohe designs. In many ways the design of our house reflects those influences. For twelve years my design/build business operated out of my house with a small cabinet shop in the garage. Wood scraps started piling up and I also began to notice that my body ached a lot by the end of the day. The idea of building a wood-fired sauna seemed to be the perfect solution! We had recently been to Doe Bay Resort on Orcas Island where they have a wood-fired sauna--I always had been in the electric ones at health clubs and wondered what people got out of the experience. That day at Doe Bay sweating like mad and then plunging into a cold soak was a transformative experience. I finally discovered what so many cultures had known for thousands of years: wood-fired saunas are pure rejuvenation! I felt like a newborn baby. Our urban spa was going to be just the thing we needed as we aged and dealt with the growing stresses in our lives. I planted timber bamboo, a birch tree, a few Japanese maple trees and some other carefully placed trees and shrubs in order to give our backyard sanctuary the privacy we desired. I have also worked very hard at making the spa retreat very private and quiet from the main house. There is a separate entrance with its very own entry courtyard.
What makes this House unique
Beyond the passion and thought that has gone into this house our location in the city is of unique advantage. There are several neighborhoods in Seattle where getting to and from major arterials is just plain difficult and time consuming. We are located close to virtually all of the transportations hubs. We also live in one of the most walkable neighborhoods with a wonderful park 200 ft. from our house and our neighborhood center just .5 miles from the house.

My husband, three boys and I absolutely loved our stay at this wonderful spa retreat! Jeff was an outstanding host, going above and beyond in every way! The boys loved sleeping in the lofts, lounging in the perfectly sized robes provided for them, and soaking in the outdoor hot tub. My husband and I enjoyed the unique artistry of the home, the sauna and the Nespresso machine! Great neighborhood, and great location for exploring all that Seattle has to offer!
Very clean, well maintained. Private hot tub, sauna, and an outdoor shower. Reasonably close to most touristy places.
Quick concert getaway
We stayed in the Seattle area for a concert at chateau st Michelle. Jeffrey was great to work with from start to finish. I had to shift our dates forward a night due to some conflicting plans at home and he was happy to accommodate. At arrival Jeffrey met us in the driveway to greet us and show us around. The place was very clean and decorated nicely. The spa vibe really came through with the architecture and all the nice amenities. It was just the two of us (hubby and I) so we had tons of space. Throughout the weekend we had nothing but privacy but knew Jeffrey was available if needed. We had a perfect time and would definitely stay there again.
Did not dissapoint
From start to finish our Girls weekend was amazing.

Beautiful, Peaceful Getaway
my wife and I vistied the spa retreat in greenwood for our honey moon. While planning to visit the city of Seattle for our first getaway, it took me hours to find a perfect place for us to stay. I wanted to surprise her with it, and I did. The place is absolutely perfect! My wife was blown away and we had such a great time. It is a wonderful, quiet neighborhood. It is about 15-20 minutes from down town Seattle, which we thought was just the right amount of distance. The owner, Jeffery, is a perfect host, very welcoming, but also leaves you with as much privacy as you’d desire. The sauna was a nice touch, as well as the hot tub. Everything was very clean, and relaxing. It’s amazing how secluded you feel, in the area. This place really made our trip a memorable time. I Look forward to staying again sometime in the future.
