Welcome to our home away from home. In 2013 we visited the Racquet Club Cottages West and fell in love with the property. Once you enter the gated community of 37 condos it is like stepping into a lovely oasis. Each of the units are each nestled away along a beautiful stream that runs from the main pool space down toward the old racquet club to the far end. We purchased this free standing condo and completed a total restoration.
Our unit has two bedrooms and one bathroom. The furnishings we selected are all mid-century modern. Both the primary suite and the guest bedroom feature a custom built walnut platform bed. Each having large storage space underneath the bed frame. The primary features a king size mattress and the second bedroom has a queen size mattress. Both have very comfortable mattresses with high end linens and pillows.
The kitchen has everything you would need to make a home cooked meal. A gas grill is located on a small patio just off the dining. The cabinets are all black walnut with solid surface countertops.
The bathroom features Carrera marble and the shower has a standard shower head w/ three body sprays.
There are three patios to choose from...One large space off the primary suite with two chaise lounge chairs. The second large patio is off the main living and kitchen area with seating for 4. The last patio is off the dining area and has a small sitting area for 2 people and a grill.
February 19th, 2023 our unit will be featured during Palm Springs Modernism Week! Come visit and tour the historic Racquet Club Cottages West!
In 2013, Racquet Club Cottages West received the 3rd ever City of Palm Springs Historic District designation. This beautiful property will be forever preserved for generations to come and enjoy this lovely oasis that seems to take you back in time.
The history: RCCW was constructed in 1959 adjacent to the famous Palm Springs Racquet Club as an overflow hotel extension for hollywood celebrities and visitors alike who wished to have a more extended stay near the famed tennis club.
The actor Richard Harris owned our unit for many years.
RCCW has a triple pedigree:
1. Architect: William Cody
2. Contractor: Paul Trousdale
3. Landscape Architect: Phil Shipley & Dudley Trudgett
There are 37 units nestled in lush, verdant landscaping, with a beautiful stream running throughout the property. The condominiums were designed using post and beam architecture. Each unit having large expanses of windows and glass. With a significant deal of attention paid to the layout and orientation on the property. The racquet club was the place to see and be seen in the 1930’s, 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. Marilyn Monroe was said to have been discovered by the pool at the racquet club.
*Once a reservation is accepted, a refund will not be issued. We will, however, try and work with you on finding a different date to accommodate your stay.
THIS IS A SMALL, QUIET COMMUNITY. Absolutely no parties or loud music are permitted within our unit or by the pool. For us, and the rest of the residents, this is a relaxing and secluded retreat from the outside world.
