we've just got back to New Zealand from a fabulous 2 day stay in this property which was spotlessly clean, well maintained and had everything we needed for our trip. Fabio provided us with vegetables and fruit from the garden (including a basket of figs after we spotted some on the tree), recommendations of places to visit and restaurant bookings. The beds were comfortable and the showers hot and powerful. The kitchen had everything we needed including a washing machine, iron etc, huge oven (which would be great if you are there for longer).
We didn't use the pool as we had been bitten all over by mosquitos whilst in Florence and we didn't want to risk it in the countryside - however none of us were bitten in the property, nor on our run around the local streets in the morning. Several of the windows had bug screens on so we were able to sleep with our windows open as temperatures outside were still in the 30s during the day. We'd be happy to go in the winter as there is underfloor heating in the bedrooms and bathrooms, and a huge open fireplace on the ground floor.
Tuscany was such an amazing place - the podere san giusto is a perfect base to use to spend the day in Florence, San Gimignano, Sienna, Montepulciano, all within an hours reach. It was unfortunate that we had to leave to drive to Milan as a local monestary was opening its doors for the day. There is so much history and amazing sights nearby but not enough time on this trip.
I'd highly recommend staying here with such lovely hosts.
Fabio and Ursula were wonderful hosts. They helped us out graciously after we arrived very late from Fiumicino without any luggage; someone had broken the window in our friend's rental car while we were eating lunch across the street at a restaurant, and took everything that was in the car. They loaned us some basic clothing and then took us shopping the next morning for underwear. Then Fabio guided us to a wonderful restaurant, La Bottega di Stigliano, that only served locally produced food. He also took us to a nearby medieval village, Torri, that is famous for its cloister. The arches were made from black and white marble, and the loggia looked very dramatic.
Our farmhouse was very comfortable with a new kitchen and two new bathrooms. I wish that we had made more time to just sit outside and enjoy the surroundings. It was very peaceful compared to Rome and Firenze, and even San Gimignano. The surrounding area was all farmland.
This vacation rental was fantastic. Urzula and Fabio were amazing hosts and went out of their way several times to make sure we were comfortable and to show us the area. The rental was very nice, a wonderful stone farm house with modern upgrades for comfort. The pool was pristine. Would definitely return and would recommend to anyone wanting to explore Tuscany.
"Nice place to spend your holiday. The environment is perfect only the mosquitos are a little bit annoying.
The owners of the house are nice people always open to help you out.
Coming from Siena at the exit of west ( Porta San Marco) you have to follow SS senese-aretina towards Roccastrada direction to reach Sovicille. After covering 10km,before reaching Sovicille you arrive in Ponte allo Spino a little bridge (on the left side of the road you can see a church ); here you have to turn on the right toward Ancaiano Caldana etc...After 1km you'll find a cross-road and on the left you see San Giusto direction. Now you have to go up the road until you'll reach a widening:here you are arrived
