Relax and Recharge
Varenna was our next to last stop after a 1200 mile car tour that took us from Rome to Viterbo to Siena to Trento to Lake Como and to Malpensa to fly home. This lovely apartment and patio with a stunning view of lake, villages and mountains was perfect for us to relax and rest up for our long journey back to northern Nevada. It was quiet at night and we used the air conditioner because of the heat. And we opened the windows and doors when the light afternoon breeze began. This was a perfect end to our tour.
We could not ask for a better place to stay in Varenna. Marco and his wife were amazing hosts. They exceeded our expectations to say the least. Marco picked us up at the train station in Varenna and took us to the house. The house was sparkling clean and the view amazing! After we got settled in, Marco and his wife took us to a nearby market to purchase food/wine for our stay. One morning, Marco's wife brought down homemade tiramisu. It was the best I have ever had! Our boys loved it! At the end of our stay, Marco took us back to the train station. Amazing! The only downside (and this may be a plus for some) is that the house is about a 25-30 min walk from downtown Varenna / Marina.....and some of the walk is on a narrow road with no sidewalks. And part of the greenway was closed off. It can be a bit scary with kids. Our kids are a bit older so it wasn't too big of an issue.... plus you can easily call for a cab...we usually had about a 10 min wait. The views and small beach were priceless.
Beautiful view of Lake Como!
We stayed in this property in July 2019; and really enjoyed the beautiful view on the patio and yard! Marco was a fabulous host and very responsive if we had any questions. Thankfully, we had rented a car, which allowed us to get back and forth from Varenna. The apartment is actually located in a town called Fiumelatte, south of Varenna. We came during a heat wave, so the apartment was a bit warm. There is an air conditioning unit that cools one part of the apartment. Also, the apartment is located on a busy road, so you do hear the road noise as you are sitting outside. Overall, it was great staying here as a base for enjoying the Lake Como area and having a kitchen and sitting areas. Marco and family certainly made us feel at home!
Incredible Views and Hospitality
We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Marco's beautiful home. The views are absolutely stunning and they were very gracious hosts. Their hospitality started with them picking us up from the airport. We are a group of 6 so they even organized (and paid for) an additional taxi to help bring us to their home.
The flat is right on the water and right off a main road. We didn't have a car so we would walk into town using the greenbelt above the home. We really enjoyed our daily walks into Varenna.
Lake Como is somewhere I will continue to visit. It's one of the most magical places I have been to and I wouldn't hesitate to stay with Marco and his kind family again. Thank you Marco, Daniela and Giacomo for hosting us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Best place on our entire trip to Italy!
Although we've enjoyed every VRBO on this Italy trip, this place was the one that exceeded our expectations. Everything is exactly as pictured on the site. AND: View, view, view is only one of the reasons this was an incredible choice.
The owners left welcome champagne and goodies for our enjoyment upon arrival. Then they brought desserts one evening, and on our last night, they shared a traditional Italian dish. Everything was delicious. We thought we'd died and gone to heaven. They are generous with their information and time--yet they don't intrude on your holiday. (They conveniently live above the rental which is convenient but not intrusive).
A wonderful addition was the availability of a washing machine. After traveling for two and a half weeks, we were grateful for the ability to wash our clothes and line dry them.
Parking was covered and safe and easy to get in and leave the garage. We went right to the property with the property owner's directions. Everything was easy and felt very safe.
We were two couples traveling together. All of us are healthy, active adults. However, we only walked into Fiumelatte. We did not try walking into Varenna. The walk to Varenna seemed like it would be longer than it probably was and we wouldn't have felt comfortable walking the path/roads after dinner (especially if it were dark). This lakeside (slightly out-of-town) location turned out to be a blessing. We had a car and it was easy to drive into Varenna or back to the previous town and buy food. We've rarely cooked in on this month-long trip, but the view was so spectacular, we bought food and grilled meat on the barbecue. No restaurant has a view better than this one.
One of the other things that is AWESOME about this property is that there are items available in the cupboard for cooking, i.e. olive oil, salt, pepper, and a few other seasonings. There was a basket of jams and cookies left on the counter for our pleasure. There was plenty of necessary items, i.e. toilet paper, bathroom supplies for our trip (which isn't always the case and when it is sufficient, it is very much appreciated).
Thank you so much for a perfect stay at Lake Como. Your property has so many personal touches. You did a wonderful job making us feel welcome and we are so happy that we had the opportunity to stay with you this May.
Best location, home, and most of all, best hosts!
Marco and his family are quite literally the best hosts we have ever had on our travels. They constantly go out of the way to make you feel welcome, comfortable, and taken care of. We were greeted with a ride from the train station, a bottle of champagne, baked goods and snacks. We then received treats throughout the trip that were incredible and delicious.
Any questions we had were quickly answered by Marco’s son who speaks very good English (our Italian was rusty at best). They always had recommendations and were interested in the activities we were doing.
They also helped us with the practical things on a moments notice. Marco offered to take us to the large supermarket so that we would have all we needed. He promptly provided new linens when we had new guests arrive. Most importantly, they gave us everything we needed for our daughter - toys, a crib, and even some furry friends (3 cats are on the property) to play with.
The property itself does not disappoint. It is spacious, clean, and has all the amenities you could need. We used the barbecue and sat in the garden overlooking the lake. It was perfect.
The small touches were also amazing - fresh herbs in the kitchen and the fresh flowers in the garden were a pleasant surprise.
The location was extremely walkable. There is a path to the greenway accessible directly from the house that will take you into Fiumelatte’s town center. From there it is a short walk into Varenna. We walked it every day which was absolutely perfect given the setting.
Overall, don’t hesitate to book this accommodation. You will not regret it!
We will be back Marco!
