About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Come experience a private waterfront retreat on natural, spectacular, south Vancouver Island. Surrounded with a panoramic ocean view and nature in every direction, you will be only steps away from the trail-heads and beaches of scenic East Sooke Park, and a short drive to the wild Pacific beaches and West Coast Trail.

Wake up and cast off from the southern-most dock in Canada just minutes from some of the largest Chinook on the West Coast! All this and still only a comfortable drive to Canada's finest west coast city, Victoria.

Vistas of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains. Eagles, swans, otters, seals, whales and large numbers of migrating waterfowl have been seen from the private hot tub and wrap around deck. Our private dock provides the option to fish, crab, kayak, scuba dive or just sit and reflect on the wildlife going by.

The house and landscaped grounds are ideal for a family vacation. The main house has three bedrooms, and the adjoining cabin has bunks with room for up to six more friends or family.

The full kitchen, fireplace, along with the comfortably and tastefully accommodated living room provide a 180-degree view of the Sooke basin. Victoria with its museums, gardens, sight-seeing and restaurants is a short drive away. Closer in enjoy the art, bakeries and restaurants of Sooke including the world famous Sooke Harbor House.

About Tim Thompson

Tim and Sue have a long, deep connection with the outdoors in the Pacific Northwest. Tim with a degree in Ocean Sciences from UBC in Vancouver, they have traveled the world's oceans only to return back to the most beautiful place on the planet: Vancouver Island.

Tim Thompson purchased this house in 2002

Why Tim Thompson chose Vancouver Island

We bought this property after a 25th wedding anniversary at the Sooke Harbor House. The beauty of the Straits of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Peninsula during the day, the sound of the waves on Sooke Spit and the call of the Mew Gull at night were magical. We came for a weekend and have remained.

What makes this house unique

The view out the window from the house is stunning. You can see the mountains of the Olympic Peninsula to the south, and a full view of Sooke Harbor to the west. In the summer the sunset through these windows is always special. In the winter, you watch the migrating birds while a fire warms the room behind you.

Enjoyed every single minute ...

  • 5 of 5

We (2 adults, 2 “kids”, 18 and 14 yrs old) spent nine days in this beautiful house.

It is perfectly equipped with everything you need – and even more: who needs a TV or a computer when you can enjoy these breathtaking sunsets and have the chance to watch otters, seals, bald eagles, … all day long!

Relaxing in the hot tub was one of our favorites, especially after one of the fantastic hikes close the house (e.g. to Mt. Maguire, Sooke Point) or after a bumpy whale watching tour, which we was one of the most amazing things we’ve ever done (and doing it on our daughter’s 18th birthday made it even more special!).

There are so many other things to do – making trips to Victoria, Nanaimo, Port Renfrew, to one of the countless beaches, kayaking, … just to mention a few.

This is definitively a place you love to come back!!!

Paradise on the quiet side of Sooke

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful, fantastic, relaxing, quiet, peaceful... We absolutely love the place. From morning coffee watching little boats passing by to mesmerizing sunsets and star watching. This house has all the amenities that one needs. We were two families with two teenage kids each and had plenty of room for all of us. All of us enjoyed playing basketball in front of the house, hot tub, walking around the property, walks to the Sooke end point, 30 minutes drive to Victoria, visiting Sooke Pot Holes, beaches around, 15 minute ride to zip lining, or just simple relaxing... The owner Tim and Sue were great, very very pleasant. Highly recommend the place and hopefully we will get chance to come back again.

Wonderful, relaxing piece of paradise.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to stay. This cozy home nestled among trees with gorgeous ocean views is a tranquil retreat from the every day hustle and bustle. There is not a bad view any where in this house. From morning coffee with the otters down on the dock to afternoon visits from the seals, fresh crab dinners caught off the dock and evenings watching the sun set from the hot tub. Make for an enjoyable get away.

This well appointed home has all the amenities and a full kitchen made for easy living with a great cottage feel. Kingfisher Manor makes you forget about sight seeing and leaving the property. Close enough to Victoria to do excursions but far enough away make you forget about the rest of the world. We can’t say enough about how helpful Tim and Sue were. Any information we needed prior to our stay or during they were just a phone call away.

We will definitely be coming back to stay here again. Maybe next time we will actually leave the property long enought to go explore this side of East Sooke Park. Many thanks S&K.

On the quiet ocean at Sooke

  • 5 of 5

We just loved it there. I don't see enough of the boys now that they live in Van, so it was a treat for us to be in nature together at your place.

Superb spot. A highlight was salmon fishing with Luke who you recommended, getting our fill after being picked up at `our' dock. Humpbacks, a sea otter, families of river otters, mink, seals, sea lions, and birds a plenty. Eagles loved to perch nearby. Great view and awesome sunsets. Crabs, porpoise, dolphin. And more humpbacks way offshore from the very nearby Sooke Park hiking trail; many, probably nine.

What a brilliant and open cottage and wild location. We soaked in the tub, enjoyed the fireplace, feasted on salmon and crab that we caught just offshore. Great times. Very peaceful.

A peaceful West Coast waterfront getaway

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this wonderful home for our annual summer vacation for 4 years and have already booked for our 5th. Our family includes two young girls as well as the grandparents and aunts and uncles. This home's location is incredible, with a private dock only a few minutes from great salmon fishing, amazing waterfront views, a large property, and close proximity to serene walking trails in East Sooke Park. The house is always clean and well stocked with everything we need, and includes a much-appreciated hot tub and large deck. When we're not out fishing (and catching!) we relax and watch the boats go by, take a leisurely drive into Sooke or to the nearby pub, look for frogs in the pond, or simply explore the park trails. There are lots of fun things to do within a short drive, including ziplining, the Sooke Potholes, and Whiffin Spit. We love that the house is in a quiet area so we really feel that we get away from the city, but Sooke and Langford offer all the necessary conveniences when we need to stock up or want to eat out. Every year we're sad to leave, but always look forward to returning!

A peaceful piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

We are writing this down at the dock hoping to have one last glimpse of otters, seals, or whatever else decides to show up. Arrived a day late last week because of the storm. Arrived to see huge waves crashing into the Spit. Today the basin looks as calm as a lake. What we love about here are the contrasts.

We were blessed to watch a humpback whale after our hike in the park yesterday – so close to shore, so breathtaking. Enjoyed the “otter convention” one day; at least 15 otters in and around the dock – such a treat. As always, the kayaking was outstanding!

Thank you Kingfisher – we always feel so comfortable here-our home away from home. Till next autumn.
