Banks Road VHR oceanfront/beachfront house was built in 2004. The house was built with an open, bright, happy concept to accommodate up to six people comfortably.
The living/dining room combo has a 20 foot cathedral style pine tongue and groove ceiling with huge windows looking out onto a beautiful view of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It also has a wonderful wood fireplace.
There are maple hardwood floors throughout the house. The kitchen features butcher block counter tops and a refinished antique farmhouse sink with the Gulf view.
There is a huge deck that has three separate entrances and includes an outdoor shower. The deck has 2 gate doors to allow children or pets to stay contained if desired.
The first floor bedroom has two twin antique wrought iron beds. Next to that bedroom is a full bathroom with shower. The laundry area is located in the hallway adjacent to the bedroom and bathroom.
The second floor is fabulous! This is an open loft style bedroom with a king size antique wrought iron bed and a futon bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom and a twin on top. This is one big loft area and the beds are all in the same room together. Great for adults or kids. Great ocean views from the many windows too.
There is a large bathroom with a tiled steam shower. On a rainy day after a hike, run or ride, this steam is wonderful!
Our house sits 300 feet in from the road on 17 acres. Very private. There is a hiking path (about 15-20 minute hike; 600 meters/1800 feet) to our beautiful beach. Depending on your physical capabilities, it can be considered easy or difficult. The access to the beach is via a shallow brook that is often dry in the summer. It is a sloping, 20 foot climb up or down to the beach. There is a rope to assist, but it may be difficult for some people. Please use caution.
Banks Road is just one mile from the town of Inverness which has shopping, restaurants, a public beach with cafe and the Cabot Links Golf Course, Golf Digest's “World's 100 Greatest Golf Courses” (#43) and Cabot Cliffs (#9).

I am a visual artist and my husband is an electrician. We live in Pennsylvania. The property has been in my family since 1952. We first visited Cape Breton in 1988 and fell in love with it. We built this house in 2004. We cherish every minute we are lucky enough to be there! This home and property is our beloved nature place! We are happy to share it with others and hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Thank you Vicki for sharing your beautiful home with us. We had an absolutely magical time at Banks Road. The cottage itself is so filled with light and so peaceful and comfortable - exactly what we were looking for! It has everything a family could possible need and more. The view of the spectacular sunsets over the ocean from the back deck were worth it alone! The property is extremely private and picturesque, with stunning ocean views and a wonderful walk through wildflowers and woods to the coast. We walked along the beautiful beach for hours every day, beachcombing, seaglass hunting and exploring the tide pools, often without seeing a single other soul! While the property is very private, it's also minutes from Inverness, which is a charming town with a fantastic public beach and all the amenities you could need, including some great little restaurants and shops. It was an easy drive to Cape Breton National Park, the Cabot Trail, whale watching in Pleasant Bay, and other great stops. We really enjoyed the tour of Glenora Distillery as well!

The Perfect Beach House
What a wonderful way to spend a week. This house is both elegant and cozy. Everything you would ever need is at your fingertips and it is incredibly well appointed. Very private, peaceful and tranquil. You can watch the whales from the very large deck or take a stroll down the path to the private beach to get a closer look. At night, start a fire in the fireplace or take advantage of the darkness to watch the night sky. Beautiful decor with a great sound system for listening throughout the entire house and even outside. This house can accommodate a large group but is equally appealing for just two. Pre rental instructions and directions were excellent and very helpful. This property is close to Inverness and all it has to offer. It's just a short drive to the Cabot Trail and a great base location for exploring all the wonders of Cape Breton. A week here is worth two weeks anywhere else.
Amazing family vacation property
We had a fantastic week at Banks Road while visiting Cape Breton for a family wedding this summer. We stayed for a week with our 3 kids aged 14, 12, and 9. The house is immaculate, cozy, comfortable and well-equipped for everything. We hosted four generations of our family pre-wedding for dinner one night and felt as if we were cooking in our own kitchen! The house has a great family feel, tons of natural light from the big windows, inspiring views and artwork to match. The ready to light fire in the fireplace was a nice touch and took the chill off the cooler evenings. We enjoyed sunny afternoons on the deck looking over the Gulf and hiked down to the rugged beach through the magical path that winds its way through the forest. There is so much to do in Inverness - the beach, Cabot Links/Cliffs resort (amazing food and golf - my husband played 5 rounds in the week we were there) and the Incredible hiking on the Cabot trail in Cape Breton Highlands national park. But you could easily spend the entire time relaxing and enjoying some downtime in this lovely house with the fabulous views and never even leave the property! We would come back in a minute. Thanks for sharing your beautiful piece of heaven with us - we are already thinking about our next trip to Cape Breton Island! Magical!
Cape Breton Idyll
My wife and I, my sister and her husband, along with our black lab vacationed here in mid-September. The home is as beautiful as pictured, comfortably furnished and fully stocked with all the basic necessities. We were able to immediately unwind after our long drive from the States. The property is private and serene yet well-situated for our week of hiking, biking and beach combing. The owner and property manager are the most responsive we have interacted with in our years of VRBO rentals. Would rent this home again in a heartbeat.
We stayed in this home for a week in July and it was a wonderful place to call home for that short time. The house is well equipped and offers all that the listing states. The views are spectacular and the sunsets beautiful. The trek down to the private beach was a little difficult so we stuck with the public beach in Inverness which is a short mile away. We would certainly come back to this home for our next visit to Cape Breton. Thank you, Vicki, for sharing your property with us.
Banks Road Beauty!
My husband and I stayed in this lovely home for a week in August for our first trip to Cape Breton Island. From our first contact with Vicki, we knew this would be a special vacation and we were not disappointed. We were charmed from the moment we drove up to the house. It is a perfect setting in the middle of 17 acres with blooming plants on the front stoop and amazing views of the Gulf from the back of the home. The caretaker, George, lives across the road and was there to greet us soon after our arrival to show us around and answer any questions. He was available, but never intrusive. The home is such a happy place, full of light and charm. The kitchen is very well stocked. We enjoyed cooking several dinners on a new gas grill on the deck. The master bedroom in the loft area is very spacious with wonderful views of the Gulf in the daytime and the starry skies at night. There is much to do in the area. We especially enjoyed walking on Inverness Beach, (lots of sea glass) hiking the Skyline Trail where we came upon a moose cow and her two calves, driving the Cabot Trail, (plan for a long day) a visit to Cheticamp, dinner at the Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, and of course, golf My husband played both the Cabot Links and the new Cabot Cliffs courses and enjoyed them both. We enjoyed the peace and serenity of the setting and hurried home every night to sip an adult beverage on the spacious deck and watch the spectacular sunsets. For the couple of rainy days, we enjoyed listening to Sirius XM with a very nice sound system, curling up on a comfy sofa with a book, catching up on the news or emails with the free Wifi, or even working on the 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle! (Didn't finish it!) We were not ready to leave when our week ended, and we hope to return to this little piece of paradise again.

Rates are subject to change until confirmation is confirmed. Payments approved and accepted only after rental agreement is signed and returned. Cancellation policy: Full refund less $200.00 for cancellation in writing to Landlord up to 90 days prior to scheduled date of check-in. No refund if cancellation after 90 days of scheduled date of check-in. Security Deposit: A refundable security deposit of $250.00 (CAD check or cash) is due upon check-in. Please allow 30 minutes time for a walk through inspection before departure with the property manager. Your deposit will be refunded before your departure if no damage is found.
