THE MILL-HOUSE offers self-catering accommodation for at least 8 people. It has a large lounge with many stone features, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bathroom and open plan converted attic which is great for children or for more guests.
THE COTTAGE is smaller and more basic but offers good value for those on a limited budget. It sleeps a maximum of 6. It has 2 double bedrooms and a childrens room with a bunkbed. Downstairs it has a lounge/diner, kitchen, bathroom and toilet.
Both properties have free Internet access and satellite TV. Kayaks / Canoes and bicycles are supplied inclusive of the holiday rental price. A 10% discount on Brittany Ferries is available. The location really offers something for everyone.
The many southern Brittany beaches are a little over an hour away with places to visit en route. A popular day out is to a forest location with walkways in the trees, rope swings etc. The advantage of being centrally located in Brittany is that one can also explore the north coast beaches and Mont St Michel - a 'must see' !
20 minutes to the east at Ploermel is an inland lake with sandy beach which is also popular with guests. On the other side of the lake there are gardens with picnic areas a 'Hydranga Walk' (The Hydranga is the Plant of Brittany) and a golf course with extensive views of the lake. There is also a disused railway which is great for cycling.

I hope to be able to welcome you to enjoy the beauty of Moulin de Griffet (Watermill of the village of Griffet) and the surrounding area.
Giles Austin purchased this house in 2010
Moulin de Griffet is set in a wonderful location in the heart of the countryside, adjacent to the Brest to Nantes Canal, yet is very close to the magnicifent medieval town of Josselin and indeed the majority of Brittany. I have a growing number of returning guests.
It has so much to offer (cycling, canoeing, walking, enjoying wildlife, relaxing, etc) and will appeal to many tastes. It offers Internet access with good download speeds.
The mill and surounding area was simply outstanding. The mill house was cosy and tastfully furnished . The lake near by is home to lots of wildlife . It was a treat to see the family of otters each moring while walking our dog. We made good use of the kayaks and the rowing boat which are all easly accessible.Bikes and a trampoline aswell. I would highly recommend this part of france .

Moulin De Griffet has stolen our hearts! We had the most special of holidays here, just the most wonderful week. The Mill house is rustic and full of charming features such as the stone walls and wood burner and the most beautifully crafted wooden spiral staircase. The beds were incredibly comfortable as is the whole house. Our two teenage children enjoyed the freedom of the very spacious loft conversion all to themselves. The sense of peace and tranquility is utter bliss. The views of the lake from the terrace are heavenly and you just feel incredibly relaxed and comfortable. The kayaks were a big hit with all the family and used every day. The surrounding countryside is stunning and the medieval town of Josselin just beautiful and well worth exploring. To be honest I was loathed to leave the Mill house as everything I wanted was right there. The hot tub made the holiday for me as just so relaxing and such a treat! Walks round the lake blackberry picking and eating Al Fresco every evening was such a joy. All in all one of the best holidays we have ever had in case you hadn't guessed already! If you are looking for total peace and tranquility in the most beautiful of surroundings then this is the place for you. It's perfect!
A wonderful break away was had in this beautiful mill house, we stayed for 5 nights and I didnt want to leave. The accommodation was perfect, you have all you need there to make you feel very relaxed and comfortable, the best part was spending those late nights in the hot tub!
I didn't get chance to partake on the bikes but next time is a must, taking the kayaks down the canal was great fun.
Even though the place is situated on its own, which to me makes it even more special for peace and quiet away from everything, there were so many close towns to explore my favourite being Josselin with its medieval feel, plenty of bars / restaurants to choose from, including the local market on the Saturday.
The owner was very helpful and provided all the information you need plus great directions to locate the property.
I loved every minute of my stay and am planning a yearly trip to escape the home life and enjoy the tranquility that this place provides.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone as its great for family's, couples & friends.
We love Moulin de Griffet. The lake is very beautiful. The canal is just down the hill perfect for cycling to various places. Josselin is close by and is a beautiful medieval town. The hot tub was an extra treat and we would like to return again next year.
If it is peace and quiet you are after, there is no better place. There are plenty of out door activities available, water sports, fishing, cycling, walking etc. The house itself is extremely clean. It maybe sounds strange to use the word extremely in this case but it is appropriate. Furthermore the house is well equipped and cosy.
The owner Giles is very helpful, for one, he had the best information set we have ever received when renting a house. In the house you will find a multitude of games and books with information on Brittany. We certainly made good use of them. Especially one with the 10 most interesting sites/towns in Brittany never left our side. The people taking care of the house, Ann and Mark, when Giles is not around, are very helpful and can be called in case of trouble.
And even though the house is left of the middle of nowhere there are plenty of shops withing 5 miles / 8 kms where you can can all your groceries. Reguiny has very good bakers, butchers and there is a supermarket (intermarché). Btw get your meat from the butcher in town, the one close to the church his meat is way better than the one from the supermarket.
I shall end now before this review turns into a novel, as you may have derived from it The Griffet Mill house and it's owner as well as the care takers get a big thumbs up from us.
We had a lovely holiday in Moulin. The location was perfect. We enjoyed canoeing most days and saw lots of wildlife - many kingfishers, 2 otters and even a cormorant near the Moulin. We went to the wier every day to splash about in the water with our one year old retriever. It is fun to cycle along the tow path to the friendly local creperie in the evening. The gite was lovely, characterful and spacious - that extra star could be gained by having more luxurious kitchen and bathroom facilities, but that's maybe me being picky! The directions were the best we've had - the first time we drove straight to our gite without getting at least a little lost. Thank you Giles!
Griffet is a riverside hamlet in the heart of the Breton countryside 10 minutes North-West of the medieval town of Josselin.
The local village of Pleugriffet (3km) caters for all the essentials of life in France - the baker, the grocer, supermarket, doctor, and the bar.
Aside from the diversions available on-site or adjacent to Moulin de Griffet (fishing, swimming, cycling, walking, canoeing, tarzan-swing, birdwatching, wildlife-spotting), the house is well-situated as a base for exploring the many other attractions that Brittany offers, from its stunning coastline to its beautiful and historic buildings.
