Overview

About the property

4 double + 1 quadruple + 4 apts to sleep 22+ in the heart of the land

Villanovia is a conservative restoration example of a historic Tuscan farmhouse: it is preserved rustic and original but modernly equipped. Its distinctive special character provides a cozy and warm atmosphere.

The house provides 700sm of internal living accommodation and 37 acres of private land.

Uniquely located on a hilltop inside the natural park of Berignone, overlooking the Cecina valley, the cities of Volterra and Pomarance, the Metallic Hills and Larderello, with the visible geothermal vapors.

It is off the beaten tracks and worth the unpaved-road drive to the first village of Mazzolla!

Staying in our property will offer you a 360° view over unspoiled Tuscany, its history and hills. And you and your family will love it!

The house sleeps 18 (+6 extra beds/futon for 6 and +2/3 cots) in large and comfortable rooms or cosy apartments equipped with a private kitchen corner.

The 16th century groundfloor entrance (all in stone) is the most ancient part of the house. Here you have a sofa area with satellite TV and indoor stairs to the upper floor where 6 accommodations are located, as well as a terrace overlooking Volterra.

Perfectly located for total relax vacation, at the same time offers short rides to the cities of Volterra (9Km), Pisa, Siena (about 60Km each), San Gimignano and Florence, as well as the Etruscan Coast beaches (45Km). A large kitchen and an impressive 170sm stone-walls living room with original brick arches complete the property.

Panoramic swimming pool is 5x12, fenced for children' safety. Wi-Fi is available.

Villanovia is in Tuscany in the centre of the triangle made by Pisa, Siena and Florence. It is perfectly located for exploring the real Tuscany. Villanovia is 9 km from the historic town of Volterra. Volterra is a real, all year round, working town with restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and all modern facilities.

Villanovia overlooks a hilltop outside the village of Mazzolla and uniquely positioned inside a Natural Park, one of the protected areas of Tuscany, called Berignone-Tatti . Mazzolla was originally an Etruscan settlement, called Mazzum, the first historical document that attests the existence of Mazzolla dates from the year 1000 when the Bishop of Volterra was received there.

The natural reserve of Berignone is a completely untouched and unspoilt resort populated by a large variety of wild animals, some peculiar birds and night-birds as well as a dense and typical mediterranean forest. There are numerous horse-riding, trekking and biking paths inside the park as well as cultural routs to the ancient middle-age ruines of the Bishops' Castle, the Castle of Luppiano and the fortresses of Rocca Sillana. There are a few rivers that cross the natural park, all affluents of the main Cecina river that forms a large valley and dies into the see in the nearby Etruscan Coast. One of the few remaining untouristic spots of Tuscany. Not to be missed.

Volterra is a town of great architectural interest located 1770 feet above the sea level, between the rivers Bra and Cecina in Tuscany, Italy. The main features are two fine castles and numerous Etruscan remains.

The area is easily accessible from Pisa by car with a journey time of just one hour. Both Florence and Pisa International Airports are served by daily flights from the UK (London, Leeds, Bournemouth, Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, East Midlands), Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Scandinavia and Russia.

Other Activities:

horse-riding (we can arrange for you), trekking and biking paths inside the natural park

Interesting unknown places to discover:

24 Km away you can reach the Metallic Hills and the village of Larderello. It is located in the center of the "Valley of the devil", so called because of its landscape characterized by geysers with features columns of white vapor (already known at the time of Dante Alighieri and his inspiring landscapes of his travel through "Hell ").

Suggested Supermarket:

COOP, Volterra, Piazza Colombaie (on the road to CECINA):

good selection of local food as well - local bread, local cheeses, good meat cuts

Restaurants nearby the Villa:

4Km, Osteria Albana, Mazzolla - recommended

9Km, L'incontro, Volterra - recommended bar for great pastries, ice-cream and wine tasting/aperitives or happy hours

Never-ending views and birds singing.

  • 5 of 5

Celebrated a big birthday with my family members and friends at Villanovia. We were a total of 24 ranging in age from 6 to 74 spending 11 fabulous days in perfect peace and harmony.

The house lends itself to big groups and felt in fact empty when we were only 18 the last couple of days.

Situated at the end of a scenic "driveway" (was technically not our driveway but felt like it) the house perch, like many Tuscan structures do, on a hill with 360 degree views with not a man-made sound to be heard, utter bliss to a city dweller.

The house itself is kept in impeccable condition and is fully equipped. The owner was in the area for work the first 4 days and stayed at their separate house on the property. He was very helpful, friendly and full of information about the area.

I would definately go back and my brother and his family is already planning on returning next summer.

Magnifique villa typique avec un panorama à couper le souffle!

  • 5 of 5

Very nice week between friends

  • 5 of 5

We rent the Villanovia villa to celebrate the end of our studies, for 13 people around 25-y-o, and had an amazing time there :)

+

The house was clean and comfortable, the kitchen big enough for the 13 of us, and the leaving-room incredibly huge !

The garden is very pleasant, and you will never get bored of the view

By car, it's only 1 hour from Siena, barely 2 from Firenze

It didn't come to our minds to ask before, but we were quite disappointed to learn when we arrived that we coulnd't use the swimming-pool as it's only open from May

Amazing stay

  • 5 of 5

Amazing stay for all the family (19 persons)!

The site offers 360 degree view on Tuscan landscape, from Volterra to lovely fields, and the metalliferous hills to the south. Kids (we had 9) could play in the fields nearby, as well as in the fantastic swimming pool. All bedrooms had en suite bathrooms, there were 4 different eating and sitting areas outside. The kitchen is wide, with lots of working space and a large oven.

There is also an impressively large living room space to relax or organise any group activity.

Overall, a very very pleasant Tuscan house!

The owners live nearby in summer, and were always smiling and available for advice, etc..

Finally the villa is conveniently situated near Volterra which is an amazing Etruscan and medieval town, but also Pisa, San Giminiano and Siena. We will come back!

A great sunny family week in an amazing place

  • 4 of 5

We spent a splendid week in VIllanovia Estate. The location is breathtaking. Chilling next to the swimming pool, discovering the natural reserve and visiting the beautiful cities in the neighborhood.

To recommend. The villa is really spacious, the accommodation conform the description. All generations may find their pleasure there.
