About Barry & Sandra

Our dream of waterfront property in Zihuatanejo was realized in 2012 when we purchased the land, designed and built Casa Sandbar. We are long time residents of Vancouver, Canada and we look forward to sharing this special place in paradise with you!

Barry & Sandra purchased this condo in 2015

Why Barry & Sandra chose Zihuatanejo

Zihuatanejo is a laid back, traditional fishing village. The Bay is ringed with 4 beaches that each have a unique personality. Our waterfront property faces west providing 180 degrees of unobstructed view.

What makes this condo unique

Casa Sandbar is just far enough away to feel the tranquility of isolation, but close enough to step into the vibrancy of Zihuatanejo. Two beaches are within an easy ten minute stroll. The choice in Zihuatanejo is having a great view which leaves you facing steep hills and stair climbs, or being close to the beaches. We love how accessible both La Ropa and Madera beaches are - just a 250 yard stroll. But the view is what sold us. It truly is magic.

What a Fantastic Experience! You will feel right at home, if your home is in paradise.

  • 5 of 5

Everyone at Casa Sandbar is truly dedicated to making sure your experience in Zihuatanejo is unforgettable. From the hosts Barry and Sandra, whom I am convinced are the luckiest people on the planet to live there. To Carmen your personal shopper and the whole staff which are the kindest and most accommodating people.

The location is perfect over the top of the ocean listening to waves over the rocks, you can't help but relax. You won't want to leave your place when you do it is in a great location, quite yet close to everything. It's a lovely walk to 4 or 5 great restaurants, two beaches, and the vibrant non-touristy town.

The rooms are all amazing with cooling pools on the decks over the top of the ocean. Slip a margarita from your well-equipped kitchen and enjoy the open spacious room without a care in the world.

You will want to book your next trip before you leave.

Thank you Barry, Sandra, Carmen and especially Letty for the memorable trip. See you next time.

Amazing view, amazing location, awesome hosts!

  • 5 of 5

The words from the owners, Barry and Sandra, explain it all nicely. They really have created a paradise here.

"Casa Sandbar is just far enough away to feel the tranquility of isolation, but close enough to step into the vibrancy of Zihuatanejo. It truly is magic."

I can add that they (and their staff) have a way of making you feel special, and are truly gracious hosts. They really make an effort in making your stay a special one. And it will be if you stay here. Again, the view is amazing. I think it would be quite difficult finding a nicer one. You can spend hours watching the view at different times of the day and night and always find something interesting that catches your eye. We were able to see what I believe were small schools of fairly large mahi mahi in the shallow, clear turquoise waters just below the hotel, and in the pools created by the rock formations. As a fisherman I was tempted to try my luck.

As far as location goes, we really liked the location as there are many nice restaurants within walking distance. actually, just next door on either side are a couple of really nice restaurants. and the beaches are also easy to get to. We did a lot of walking the first couple of days but after realizing how easy catching a cab is and how reasonable they are, it only makes sense to cab if going a bit farther, like downtown to shop. I don't think we were charged more than 60 pesos to go downtown where the shopping is (mercado) and you can be there in a few minutes by taxi.

And the accommodations here are as others have mentioned, very clean and secure. And really tastefully decorated. Everything about the accommodations will make your trip an enjoyable one.

Only regrets we have are not staying a few days longer. Next time we will though! Barry and Sandra, thxs for making our trip one to remember!

Honeymoon in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

The toughest part of our honeymoon was having to leave this incredible home away from home. It properly describe all that is offered at this luxury condo would wear the reader out and I still wouldn't be able to capture all of it. Many people have written 5 star reviews about Casa Sandbar and as I read through them I found myself agreeing with almost everything (all but finding Carman nasty!)

The condos are beautifully appointed, well maintained and a pleasure to return to in the evenings - if I am not mistaken we did manage to leave the grounds every one of our 9 days there albeit reluctantly some days.

The view is simply amazing from early morning watching the fishermen returning home after the nights work to the sun filling the bay, shining down on the sailboats and a variety of other boats. There was much to watch with divers just below the building to fisherman on the rocks. The sunsets were spectacular as well!

We used the kitchen for breakfasts and the occasional lunch as there are so many great restaurants to explore in the area. The beaches as great - one on each side of the hill and a good snorkelling beach a quick 45 peso boat ride away.

I look forward to our next visit to Casa Sandbar and the wonderful town of Zihuatanejo! Our hosts Sandra and Barry are a delight and provided much needed guidance for the area.

Outstanding accomodation

  • 5 of 5

Casa Sandbar is all we're looking for in accommodation on a Mex vacation. Quiet, great location, full appointed, great sleeping set-up, great bathroom and overall attention to every tiny detail. We like to hit the local markets and cook some when we're on vacation. The kitchens at Casa Sandbar are equipped as close to home as you could need on vacation (gas stove and oven, full fridge and freezer, blender, pots and pans, sharp knives, great dish and glass-ware). That all said, Casa is an easy walk into town to great restaurants with super authentic mexican food. Oh, and the fresh food market is only a $5 (60 peso) cab ride home. We'll be back for sure next year.

Casa Sandbar is located in Zihuatanejo, in the southern Mexico state of Guerrero. Guerrero is famous for it’s beautiful beaches, year round tropical temperatures and the amazing Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains that provide the incredible backdrop to the stunning views.

Zihuatanejo Bay is ringed by multiple beaches, each with it’s own charms and personality. The bay itself was once a hide out for Pirates that patrolled these waters searching for Spanish galleons to plunder. Prior to that it was a getaway for the royalty of the sophisticated indigenous tribes that inhabited the area.

During the 60’s and 70’s it became a refuge for the stars with John Wayne and many others enjoying the anonymity they had here. The tradition continues today with occasional “rumors” of celebrities being in town, but always with that wink of “We don’t bother them...”

Zihuatanejo, also known as Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo for the neighboring tourist destination of Ixtapa, was formerly a sleepy fishing village and little known destination. These days it has a slightly more updated feel, boasting fine dining, live music and an abundance of activities. However, it still has its core laid back atmosphere. You can still buy fish, fresh from the water, in the early mornings along the waterfront. Relax in a beach front restaurant while Mariachis serenade you with traditional Mexican ballads. Wander the Mercado and buy fruits and vegetables that were on the vine just the day before and be greeted everywhere you go with warm, welcoming smiles.

Casa Sandbar is just far enough away to feel the tranquility of isolation, but close enough to step into the vibrancy of this traditional Mexican town.
