Nice apartment, don't understand the appeal of Capri
The apartment is only circa 400m from the port that the ferry terminal. During peak months the transportation of visitors from the port up to Capri and Anacapri simply cannot cope with the sheer volume of people. The island population is around 12,000 yet they have 20,000 visitors per day. The queues for the funicular railway were long and the carriages very cramped particularly if you were carrying luggage. Similarly the small buses were nearly always full to capacity at all times of day and night. To get to the apartment I suggest that a taxi is pre-booked. Taxi drivers will rip you off if you don't agree a price before hand.
The owner Nunzia and her daughter were very welcoming. The studio apartment was exceptionally clean and well presented. The balcony overlooking the port was the highlight of our one week stay. Sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine watching the world go by in the most beautiful climate was truly wonderful. The mezzanine floor where the bed was cited had a low ceiling so not ideal for anyone taller than 5ft 10 inches. I am roughly 5ft 11 inches and I banged my head on a couple of occasions. The bathroom had a bidet, bath and shower curtain. Unfortunately the ceiling height had been reduced so when standing in the bath to use the shower head you had to crouch a little, not particularly good.
During our short stay both my wife and I suffered from insect bites even although we had applied insect repellent. We left a small bag of cookies open, using clothes pegs as clips, in the morning the cupboard was full of ants. The supermarket is 100 m from the flat. They had a good choice of fresh vegetables and an excellent meat counter. The prices were good and the staff although not speaking any English were helpful. On our last morning we were pushing our suit cases down the road towards the ferry terminal and one of the workers was on his scooter and stopped to wish us bon voyage.
The island did have some pleasant surprises in store namely, the road from Capri to Anacapri was spectacular with sheer drops down to the sea. The boat island tour was a great trip and the chairlift up to the highest point of the island was fabulous.
Hotels are very, very expensive for any food or drink e.g. Gin and tonic 25 Euro???? The food we had was extremely disappointing. Most restaurants house speciality seemed to be a very heavy doughy pizza or a bowl of pasta.
If you must go to Capri do the above in one day and get off the island.
Lovely loft flat with a fabulous views of Marina Grande & Vesuvius.
We has a wonderful time in this flat - spending most nights on the terrace watching all types of boats, ferries & yachts go by. The bed is up a flight of marble steps to the loft with plenty of closet space & a TV (no English stations). Downstairs has a large bathroom with tub & hand-held shower (plenty of towels), small kitchen (note despite description there is no toaster), small sitting area and even more closet space. Perfect for a couple. As you can see, it is set above the Marina Grande where all the ferries and tourist boats come and go all day & night. And the two chaise lounges are perfect to relax and/or read. The flat is set inside a local pedestrian only "street" and you feel like a local walking home. A supermarket is conveniently located across the street (we had wine & cheese on terrace several nights) as is the bus to the marina (although a 5-7 minute walk downhill via a short-cut). To get to Piazzi Umberto you can walk (25-30 minutes) or take the bus or funicular at the marina (2 Euro). A taxi costs about Euro 15 to Umberto. Hosts Nunzia & Antonio were welcoming & lovely - upon arrival they offered a glass of homemade wine and Antonio cut some lettuce & arugula from his large garden (salad that night on the terrace!) and also gave us some homemade marinara (which we ate with fresh ravioli from the market). I will say the ceiling upstairs is not high and may be troublesome for anyone above 5"10". We truly enjoyed our five nights. And we do recommend the 5 minute walk down to the uber-trendy JK Hotel (take the road, down toward the sea - not the steps to the marina) for a fabulous martini on the terrace for sunset views of Vesuvius. Drinks are E22, however, you do get complimentary nibbles. And the public swimming beach is right next door and lit at night. Antonio's recommendation of the Villa Panorama restaurant was excellent as well. In a nutshell, a lovely flat allowing you to feel like you are a part of the local scene.
Great stay in Capri
We enjoyed our time at Casa Chiara in Capri. It's a lovely little apartment with amazing views of Marina Grande. The terrace is lovely. It was a perfect place to have breakfast and watch the boat traffic in the marina. Nunzia was great, greeting us upon arrival and showing us around the apartment. The apartment was clean and had some extra amenities. It's walking distance to the shops and transportation in Marina Grande.
Great location, host and city!
Well located property provided us with a perfect getaway.
After visiting Capri for a one day excursion on a cruise a few years ago, we always said we wanted to go back for a week. We chose Casa Chiara to do just that. The property itself is ideal for a couple, and a great alternative to a hotel, especially when staying for a week. Really nice size, and a very well equipped kitchen. We made many meals in the kitchen, at least 2 a day, and it had everything you would need. The loft bedroom has a lot of storage for clothes and a good firm mattress. The property was very clean on arrival. As everyone else has mentioned, the view is breathtaking. From the terrace a direct view to Marina Grande in front, the one side one can see Capri town perched above, and to the other side one can see the mountain that holds Anacapri. The property is set way back from the main road down a pedestrian walkway. Although there are other properties around, we felt like we were the only one's there, it was very private. As far as the actual location goes, it was central, to both Capri and Anacapri, and very close to Marina Grande. It was more of a 10 minute walk to Marina Grande, and I must say when you arrive with luggage, it seems like a very long walk, uphill and up stairs, but still better in my opinion that trying to squeeze luggage on a bus, and not worth a taxi for such a short distance. We did use the funicular from Marina Grande to get to Capri a few times, and the bus to get to Anacapri. Having said that we walked to Capri a few times, (and definitely back from many times), and it is easy to do in about 15 minutes once you find the shortest route through the many pedestrian walkways. Also close are the Phoenician Steps leading to Anacapri. I walked up these once, and down twice. It's a great way to get away from the crowds of the towns. As other reviews have mentioned the grocery store at the street is very handy. We visited daily to get our food and wine for the day. The hosts were kind, we are low maintenance so really had no reason to call on them after we had initially checked in. Casa Chiara allowed us to feel like we were living like locals for a week. I took hundreds of photos from the beautiful terrace. I definitely would recommend it if you are looking for a centrally located private location. David and Kathy, Ontario, Canada
My sister and I stayed at this beautiful little apartment for one week in April 2017. We had a wonderful time and loved the apartment which was spotlessly clean and had everything you need for a self catering holiday. The view from the balcony is fantastic. The location is excellent and there is a supermarket right on your doorstep. Nunzia and her family are lovely hosts and very welcoming. We would love to stay here again.
