About MARIA TERESA CONROTTO GRIMALDI
My husband and I are retired people. We both worked in the field of marketing and communication. We were born and raised in Turin (Piedmont-North Italy) and our residence is still in Turin, however, every year when we are free of commitments, we like to spend some time in Santa Caterina di Pittinuri in Sardinia. We landed in the Island the first time in May 1970, for our honeymoon.
MARIA TERESA CONROTTO GRIMALDI purchased this House in 1995
Why MARIA TERESA CONROTTO GRIMALDI chose Cuglieri
Santa Caterina di Pittinuri has always made us feel good. Along the many years, we realized that such a spot was for us not only a magical place for our holidays but something more. Therefore, we began to nurture the dream of having a personal refuge right there. One day, during a walk, we noticed a piece of advice “plot for sale”: we bought that piece of land and we started to build the house. Why we like so much Santa Caterina di Pittinuri? Many are the reasons: it is a pristine place; life runs easily and all is genuine. The climate is excellent. The elders of the place say that in the past century when epidemics (malaria, lung disease, etc.) caused many victims, the survivors so debilitated were taken to Santa Caterina of Pittinuri for the healthy properties of its climate. The bay with the majestic cliffs is like an enormous piece of art carved under the sky; the generous hospitality and kindness of the locals and much more make Santa Caterina a special place. Since a few years, we have decided to open our home to other people. Many are the reasons. Forty years ago, we arrived to Sardinia as tourists and now we feel like being native Sardinian! We are pleased to pass on this passion and to provide to other people the hospitality we received at the time we were tourists. ... Finally, the proceeds we get from the lease allow us to do all the maintenance to keep the house in perfect order and efficiency.
What makes this House unique
.This house was built with care to exalt holiday times in full harmony with nature. The house is bathed by the rays of the sun from the first to the last ray of every day sunshine. In the porch, you may have your breakfast enjoying the sunrise from the mountains behind; in the evening, you can say good-bye to the sun that sinks into the sea, while sipping a Martini on the terrace. The outdoor area has many pleasant corners as “cozy refuges ". A thick hedge of green Pittosporum is perfect to shelter you when the mistral wind blows. On the contrary, the North wing of the garden will give you relief when the hot sirocco wind blows. The hammock under the foliage of the olive trees will be so tempting when the hot sun shines. Late in the afternoon, you might enjoy reading a book close to the lavender bushes and late evening the lawn will be a perfect bed to applaud the moonrise under a starry sky.

Fantastic Holiday Home
My family and I had a wonderful holiday at Maria Theresa’s amazing home. The house has a wonderful position overlooking the sea and is full of thoughtful touches inside and outside that make it a real pleasure to stay in.
This was our first visit to Sardinia and we loved exploring all the local sights from the Sinis Penisula up to Bosa, but nothing beat our morning swim with the fishes in the cove opposite.
Maria Theresa was a charming and informative owner who helped making the booking as easy as possible.
Thank you for your appreciation. The cove opposite the house was my favoutite place, too, when I was younger.
Whenever you like to come back to Casa I Cardellini you are welcome!
Really enjoyed our break at this comfortable and spacious holiday home. Great sea views from the balcony and lots of different sitting and dining areas in the well landscaped garden. Highly recommended.
It has been a pleasure to have you in casa I cardellini. Thank you for the care you had for the house. Any time you like to come back you are welcome!
Firstly I have to say Maria Teresa the owner was so helpful with every aspect of the holiday, from directions to advice on places to visit. We had a wonderful week with our two children 4 and 8. The villa is perfect for families. If you want to get away from it all and the English tourists who seem to pop up in every nook and cranny around the world this is the place for you. Quiet beaches, quiet roads and void of tourists, perfect for us. Highly recommend for an excellent quiet holiday for young families. Lastly, we'll miss the villa's permanent resident - Victoria.
Turtle Victoria (the permanent resident of Casa I Cardellini misses your children, too!
Thank you for writing your feelings.
It is hard to beat a holiday in Sardinia as the summer season slows.
We were greeted by Marie Therese who showed us around her house which is thoughtfully designed for holidaymaking. Everything one could ask for is provided in this large and generously proportioned house. The deep, shaded veranda offers a perfect view of the sea and sunsets. The very large garden is perfect for a long read while sunbathing .
Marie Therese is a warm and extremely helpful hostess. Local wine and cakes welcomed us and during our stay we were offered a tray of figs, perfectly on the turn, from Marie Therese's tree. Deep knowledge of the region with its secret beaches and eating spots was generously shared.
All in all..... wonderful!
Your words are the best rewards for what I do for the guests in Casa I Cardellini.
The perfect holiday home
Maria Theresa has created the perfect holiday home. I think she has poured a lot of thought and love into the house - and it shows. The house itself is beautiful - and very spacious for our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 teenagers). We really enjoyed the different outside spaces for bbq-ing, relaxing and taking in the endless sea view. There was a very helpful set of notes about the house and the surrounding area. There was plenty to explore; I loved the variety of different beaches within a short walk/drive - from the creek of su riu (perfect for snorkelling) to the picture-perfect white beaches of the sinis pinisula and the waves of arenas - as well as a stunning mountain walk and the winding streets of bosa.
I like to have guests in the house like you not only because you have appreciated the house but about all because you have been interested to explore most of the area which offers so much.I have written the notes with the pourpose to help the guests to discover what they like more. Considering that you have spent only a week here, I must say that you have seen a lot.
You are welcome any time you like to come back.
Perfect in every way, cant wait to return.
A gem of a house and stunning garden equipped with everything you could need. We're a family of five with children aged 6, 8 and 11. We all loved it and felt instantly at home. Lots of shade and cosy corners all around the house and the outdoor shower is a dream. Pet tortoise also a big hit. Wonderful location with sea views in front and mountains behind. 5 min walk to local beach and our favourite ice cream restaurant Asterix. Great base for exploring stunning local area. So many wonderful quiet beaches. Super snorkelling. Good, safe roads. Large supermarkets about 10 mins drive away otherwise local shops have surprisingly good stock. Recommend day trip to Bosa. This was our first visit to Sardinia and we wanted a rural location away from tourists. This is exactly what we found so were very happy. Maria is a delightful host. Very very helpful and interested. Could have stayed here for a very long time!
Come back soon! You have been perfect guests for Casa I Cardellini. Tortoise Victoria misses your children.
Thank you for your nice words. I have appreciated your lines.
The house is in the seaside village Santa Caterina di Pittinuri in the Municipality of Cuglieri on the West Coast of Sardinia. The village (year-round inhabited by 500 native people) is a small and picturesque hamlet of Cuglieri, enclosed between the sea and the mountain range of Montiferru.
The geographical site of the house (in the middle between Nord and South of Sardinia), provides as an excellent base to explore most of the island (Bosa, Alghero, Barbagia, Barumini, Giara of Gesturi, Pistis’ dunes, Piscinas’ dunes, Montevecchio and Ingurtosu’ s mines, etc).
Santa Caterina di Pittinuri is on the edge of the Sinis Peninsula which is an area protected by the Ministry for the Environment in order to safeguard its natural heritage and it has been selected by the European Union as a "tourist destination of excellence".
The Coast has breath-taking natural beauty. Many areas are still natural and wild. Tourist facilities are modest and economic resources are scarce. Some neglects, any minor inconvenience that you will meet are the small price to pay to enjoy a pristine environment and not too "civilized". You are in a nature, which takes you to the origins. It radiates endlessly positive energy. Here you return to the true quality of life: to rediscover the charm of simplicity. This is a place where you can relax right from the very start, naturally. Everything is low-key. Enjoy the true oasis far from the hustle, a place of freedom, enjoyment and perfect relation with yourself and nature.
The beaches of Oristano area, near Santa Caterina di Pittinuri, are considered among the most beautiful in the island. They are the ideal environment for lovers of quiet beaches, as well as for fans of cliffs, diving and water sports like surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing, bird watching, horse riding, jogging in the country, etc.
On the beaches after heavy sea storms, you might find small or large piles of Poseidon, commonly called algae that are brought ashore from the sea. This seaweed is a tangible sign of an unpolluted sea. Beaches are free and are not equipped with chairs and umbrellas; however, there are kiosks that serve simple dishes, fried fish, sandwiches, ice cream and drinks. The kiosks are open and running generally from mid-June to mid-September. Close to the beaches, there are large parking areas. During the months of July and August, that spaces are charged.
Some of the main beaches of the Sinis area are: Is Arutas, Mari Ermi and Maimoni (the sand of the beaches is formed by tiny white pebbles/grains of quartz); San Giovanni di Sinis, Torre Seu, Sa Mesa Longa, Putzu Idu, Island of Mal di Ventre (in the warm and colourful waters adjacent to the various beaches of the little Island, there are numerous hot springs);
-Capo Mannu (it is surfers’paradise for its waves when the sea is rough).
To the North of the Gulf of Oristano, extends a wetlands area formed by a few ponds. They are full of mullet. Every year, over 8.000 flamingos come from Camargue. The best time for sightings of flamingos is Spring or late Fall.
On the hottest days of summer to find relief you may head for the mountains of Montiferru to San Leonardo. it is an area rich in mineral water springs. There are large areas with picnic tables shaded by elms, oaks and fountains. Besides, there is the Church of San Leonardo built around the century 1100 in Romanesque style.
As far as archeological sites in the surroundings of Oristano there are Tharros ruins. It is a vast archaeological area that preserves numerous testimonies of the ancient city of the Phoenicians, which then passed into the hands of the Carthaginians and finally to the Romans. The urban structure of Tharros is still visible in our times, with the houses of Punic origin, and later the cornerstones of paths Roman roads.
In San Giovanni Village there is an early Cristian Church, one of the oldest of the Island.
Other very interesting archaeological sites are Nuraghe Losa and Pozzo di Santa Cristina. The museum in the town of Cabras houses the statues of Giants Mont'e Prama. They represent archers, warriors, boxers and models of Nuraghe. It seems that the dating of this material ranged from the eighth century BC to the ninth or even the tenth century BC. Therefore, these sculptures might be the oldest in the Mediterranean basin.
Many historical events, cult rituals and folklore, festivals, handicraft exhibitions and fairs follow one another all year around. Genuine and fresh food is so tempting, not to talk of the many good wines! They will help you to leave behind the bustle of everyday life.
