Nestled in Eguisheim, in the heart of one of the nicest small towns of Alsace, on the famous “Route des Vins”, our 5 star listed cottage with a capacity for 6 people will seduce you with its comfort (sauna, chimney), its charm and refinement. The cottage is new and separated from the owner’s house. It has a sheltered terrace with a view point of Trois-Châteaux and a garden pleasantly planted with trees.
The Eguisheim village, papal town of Leo IX, has been listed on of the most beautiful villages of France in 2003 and obtained the European Competition for Towns and Villages in Bloom in 2006. The cottage is located a few steps away from the historic centre that you will discover by striding along the paved alleyway, lined with magnificent coloured and decorated with flowers half-timbered houses.
We had an incredible 10 days in Alsace with Gite Hirondelle in Eguisheim as our base. The house is in a wonderful location, close to the village, and near to all the wine towns of Alsace. Francis and Sandrine, the owners who live up the street, were gracious and generous, welcoming us with a bottle of Crémant d'Alsace and a delicious Kugelhopf cake.
For years, we have been using Home Away to find apartments and houses all over Europe. This one has to be one of our all time favorites. The house is incredible clean and well appointed with heated towel racks, coffee pot, lots of dishes, pots and pans and beautiful crystal glasses. We enjoyed breakfast every morning in the kitchen and looked forward every night to dinner on the terrace. Every day we found markets in the wine towns we visited by car or train and brought back local cuisine and bottles of wine to enjoy in the evenings. It was just paradise!
There were only two of us so we had plenty of room, and we enjoyed the privacy of the neighborhood. The colors in the house are all neutrals and soft grays and browns - so soothing and welcoming. The stone floors have radiant heating which we never needed. Francis even rolled the grill around to our terrace in case we wanted to use it.
Francis and Sandrine recommended excellent restaurants and local villages to explore.
We visited Colmar, Riquewihr, Ribeauville, Hunawihr, Strasbourg, Selestat, EcoMusée, Haut Koenigsbourg and even took a 45 minute train to Basel in Switzerland. September is the time of the harvesting of the grapes so we saw people in knee high boots picking the grapes everywhere we went.
We can't say enough about our trip or about our generous and kind hosts. We will never forget our "home" in Alsace. Thank you Francis and Sandrine.
We were three ladies traveling in Alsace. We stayed in this accommodation for 11 days. The house is beautiful, spotlessly clean, better than the pictures on the internet. Everything was provided, including good wine glasses. The bed linens were exceptional, so lovely. Our hosts were attentive and gave us a thorough orientation of the house. They suggested restaurants and places to visit. Although not in the old part of the village of Eguisheim, it is within easy walking distance. There are also parking lots around the perimeter of the village should one not wish to walk. The wine route in Alsace takes you through beautiful and charming villages. It is easy to drive in this region. Well worth a visit.
We (3 couple) spent 5 days in this lovely house. It was a perfect location for visiting Eguisheim (10 min walk to old town) and exploring surrounding areas. The house was immaculate and well equipped including everyday necessities for the kitchen. Sandrine and Francis were very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this rental property for people seeking first class accommodations! from frequent travellers and renters, Jack M and friends. Sept 2015
We really enjoyed our week in Eguisheim. The house is in a great location, walking distance to the village, close to Colmar and the villages of the wine route. The owners, Francis and Sandrine are delightful to deal with, they are helpful and friendly.
The house is spotlessly clean and well appointed, the kitchen is well equipped and has foil, glad wrap etc. good washing machine and dryer complete with washing powder etc.
The layout is very good, the two upstairs bedrooms have ensuites and spacious fitted walk in robes. All linen is supplied.
Outdoor furniture and electric BBQ are welcome additions.
In fact this place is fabulous, everything looks brand new. The owners certainly maintain it well.
They recommend good restaurants and local attractions. We would love to come back. Thanks for a great week Frances and Sandrine.
We have just returned home from an amazing week's holiday staying in this stunning gite. The accommodation is perfect, beautiful and spotlessly clean. Sandrine and Francis the owners are most welcoming, helpful and kind. The location close to the centre of one of France's prettiest villages is ideal and provides a great base for exploring an area that has so much to offer. We and our children have had a perfect holiday.
This is a wonderful place to stay as a home-base to explore the region. The quaint town of Eguisheim is within a few minutes walk as are hiking trails through the vineyards and to the chateaux. Within a short drive, we could explore all the towns on the Alsace wine route and the Black Forest region of Germany. The home is beautifully maintained and decorated. It was a joy to come back to such a nice relaxing spot after touring the area all day. The owners go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. Sandrine coordinated several activities in the area for us which made our visit even more special. When I was interested in exploring my family roots in nearby Ostheim, she arranged for me to meet with a local historian and helped me investigate with several genealogists. The location of this property, the property itself and the owners all get five stars from me!
