About the property

PORNANINO

On the rolling hills of the Black Rooster area, in the very heart of Chianti, between Radda, Castellina and Vagliagli sits Pornanino, a lovingly restored biological olive oil estate surrounded by 36 hectares of olive groves and wooded hills. The rivers Arbia and Serchio mark the boundaries.

The owner’s Franco and Lia were a part of a group of neo farmers (and friends) who came from major European and Italian cities in search of a slower-paced lifestyle where basic values of life are emphasised in everyday living. Their daughter Francesca and son-in-law Matteo have now taken on the role of cultivators and producers of the top-quality biological extra virgin olive oil with great passion, and Matteo now conducts the presentation and tasting of the oil, with Francesca who also occupies herself with the guests. The main farmhouse villa and two stone built barns, Capannino and Leccino cottages, had been restored and renovated to excellent standards and appointed with the same warm style with antique furniture enhancing beamed ceilings and cotto floors.

Pornanino is accessed by 5km of very well kept unpaved road (strada bianca). The medieval town of Castellina in Chianti with an excellent choice of restaurants, wine shops, coffee bars, COOP supermarket, grocery shops, post-office, banks and a variety of other shops is at 5km distance, Florence at 32kms and Siena at 18kms. San Gimignano, Volterra, Monteriggioni, Arezzo, Cortona and many other attractive towns are within an easy drive. The property is 9km from Radda in Chianti, another lovely hill-top medieval town with cobbled streets and also a good choice of restaurants and stores.

Another wonderful Tuscan experience.

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit to Pornanino and will not be our last. Francesca, as ever, was the perfect host and could not have been more helpful. The cottages are set in an idyllic location, slightly off the beaten track but all the better for it. The local towns provide all amenities including restaurants, bars and shops. We will be back.

Wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have spent very nice holiday in Pornanino - it was our first stay in Tuscany. The house, the garden and the pool is located in the pure nature. Quiet, no traffic noise and the beautiful scenery all around. I want to thank Francesca (super advices for our trip to Firenze) and Mateo for our pleasant experience in Tuscany.

A Tuscan dream

  • 5 of 5

I can't think of anything that would have made our stay more perfect! Francesca was a wonderful host who did everything to make our stay perfect in every way and her husband, Matteo, gave us a very informative lesson in how they make their olive oil. I don't think I've ever had olive oil that good. The villa was restored beautifully and also had great, huge french doors opening up to the terrace where we could enjoy family meals together outside. The kitchen was spotless and also had all the amenities we needed. The grounds of their olive oil farm are pristine and provide for the most amazingly peaceful and relaxing stay. The pool is a definite plus. We will be back!

Meraviglioso

  • 5 of 5

MAGNIFIQUE!!!!

  • 5 of 5
